DMC World DJ Championship Finals Announced for Later This Month

The world’s most skilled turntablists are currently battling it out for top honors at the DMC World Championships. The longtime Technics-sponsored event is going virtual for its 35th edition, which is currently seeing sixteen finalists compete for a coveted spot among the chosen final ten DJs. India’s Sunburn Festival has been postponed due to COVID-19. Originally scheduled for December 2020, organizers were planning on hosting a “small, safe, and socially distant” event. After consulting with local authorities and monitoring the number of COVID cases in India, they decided to pull the plug on this year’s outing. The decision came after backlash from critics and local government officials, who called for the event’s cancellation in recent weeks. Live Nation Sees Path to Resuming Live Shows at Scale By Summer 2021

With persisting restrictions on large gatherings and events worldwide, concert giant  Live Nation reported another quarter of earnings that didn’t exactly excite investors. The top line number included a 95% drop in year-over-year revenue compared to Q3 2019, leading to an operating loss of $504 million for the quarter. Despite the unsightly financial results, Live Nation’s CEO Michael Rapino spoke to a rosier outlook for the company in the coming year. India’s Sunburn Festival Faces Backlash for Planned 2020 Event

Sunburn Festival, India’s largest electronic music event, has faced its fair share of controversies since its inception in 2007. Last year, the hashtag #BanSunburn trended after religious groups called for its cancellation due to its perceived negative impact. These detractors cited “drug mafias, addiction, and vulgarity” (among other concerns) as reasons for the need to ban the festival. Now, critics have a new argument to call for a swift cancellation—COVID-19. Percept Live, the organizers behind Sunburn, still plan to host the 2020 edition as scheduled in Goa December 27th to 29th, but now under proper COVID-19 safety protocols.
