Ozuna on His New Album OZUTOCHI and Official FIFA World Cup Soundtrack Song: “I Said, ‘Yo! Let’s Go!’”

Ozuna worked on a lot of songs for his new album, Ozutochi, out today (Friday, October 7th). “I took two years to prepare,” Ozuna tells Consequence, “And I had 75, 65 songs. I get only 18 songs for this album… so it was difficult.” But fret not: the 18 songs he did select for Ozutochi show the Latin superstar at his very best. His signature tenor and stylish deliveries are on full display, and whether he’s starting the party or crooning through love songs, his unshakeable star power looms large. It’s been a significant rise throughout the last five years for the Puerto Rican-born singer, songwriter, and rapper — if you aren’t as familiar with Ozuna’s signature voice, you may have heard his remix to “Te Boté,” a reggaeton smash that reached massive levels of po...

Song of the Week: Fiona Apple Reads Tolkien Poetry on “Where the Shadows Lie”

Song of the Week breaks down and talks about the song we just can’t get out of our head each week. Find these songs and more on our Spotify Top Songs playlist. For our favorite new songs from emerging artists, check out our Spotify New Sounds playlist. This week, Fiona Apple makes a fantastical return with “Where the Shadows Lie.” The music of Fiona Apple has a way of making itself feel suspended in time. From the straightforward, piano-heavy compositions of her 1996 debut Tidal to the raucous, ramshackle qualities of 2020’s Fetch the Bolt Cutters, the iconic musician might’ve been a spokesperson of turn-of-the-century doom — but her sound is void of a specific era. Really, it’s a trait that Apple shares with the Lord of the Rings franchise...

Rap Song of the Week: Quavo and Takeoff Move Forward as a Duo with “Two Infinity Links”

Rap Song of the Week breaks down all the hip-hop tracks you need to hear every Friday. Check out the full playlist here. This week, Migos members Quavo and Takeoff push on as a duo on “Two Infinity Links,” the opening track from their new album, Only Built for Infinity Links. After months of speculation, Quavo and Takeoff essentially admitted Migos are done (for now) earlier this week. During an appearance on DJ Scream’s Big Facts podcast, Quavo alluded to family loyalty and explained the situation was “something to do with the three brothers” rather than Offset’s recent label issues. Meanwhile, Takeoff left the door open for the return of Offset, mentioning they told him to fix “whatever ain’t right.” Regardless of what went down, Quavo and Takeoff are determined to prove their ...

Composer Hildur Guðnadóttir on Creating the Music You Do (or Don’t) Notice for Cate Blanchett and Todd Field in Tár

Little Children director Todd Field’s return to film, the acclaimed drama Tár, was worth the wait. A haunting descent into the psyche of a composer/conductor (Cate Blanchett) whose ambitions get derailed by her past and present foibles, the film presents a lush soundscape that includes many layers, from the original composition that Lydia Tár is struggling to create, to the lush symphonies of Mahler, to the uneasy underlying score created by Oscar-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir (Joker). Field brought Hildur onto the project very early on — “I think I was like the second person to join the project after Cate,” she tells Consequence via Zoom — and she says that when she first read the script, she felt like the writer/director had authentically captured a lot about the modern-day world o...

Up Close and Personal at the Park City Song Summit

The Park City Song Summit, which I attended from Sept. 7 to 9, aims to become a new kind of interactive music experience for artists and fans, with a special focus on mental health, recovery support and community relations. Will Schube did a wonderful job covering those aspects in this article, but how did things play out in real time? Were the labs interesting? Were the artists and moderators into it? Did the energy from the labs translate to the live shows later that same night?  What follows is my experience at the first annual Park City Song Summit from the extravagant opening kick-off dinner on Wednesday to the Anders Osborne set on Saturday night, with founder Ben Anderson on vocals and bass, that closed the show.  Day 1: Labs I created a list of the labs I wanted to attend...

Get your money back: The weird world of crypto litigation

Want to sue a crypto project that ripped you off? That will be $1 million, thank you. Luckily, there are options for those who face the daunting prospect of spending a small yacht’s worth of money in lawyer fees for their chance at crypto justice. In practice, the majority of victims of international blockchain scams find themselves with little hope of recovering their money. According to crypto law expert Jason Corbett, a normal court case to recover $10 million–$20 million dollars in the blockchain sector can easily cost between $600,000 and $1 million, with an average timeline of 2.5 years. But there are a range of cheaper and better options to get a successful outcome — if you learn how to work with the system. Legal investment funds can finance your case for a share of the judgement —...

Rolling Stones Bassist Darryl Jones Talks Keith, Miles, and Changing Consciousness

In 1993, when Darryl Jones heard Bill Wyman was leaving The Rolling Stones, he called Mick Jagger’s team and asked to audition. Jones, who had already played with Miles Davis, Sting, Madonna, and Peter Gabriel, joined the band after two rounds of auditions. Since 1994’s Voodoo Lounge, Jones has played on every Stones album. In the new documentary Darryl Jones: In the Blood, premiering October 7, the band all express their admiration for his extraordinary gift. In the documentary, Mick Jagger says he respects him highly “as a player, as a musician.” So does Keith Richards. “Darryl is the most solid cat. My solid left arm, one of the best bass players in the world.” He thinks of Jones as an older brother, even though Richards is older. “It’s funny because I feel the same way about Keith. I f...

Ben “Lambo” Lambert Believes That Self-Care Is Vital in Becoming a Music Executive

When you speak of Freddie Gibbs, it’s almost impossible to forget about his longtime manager and confidant Ben “Lambo” Lambert. After all, the GRAMMY-nominated rapper and music executive have stuck by each other’s side for nearly 20 years — through hell and high water, feast and famine and, in 2016, very serious criminal accusations that were proven false. It now serves as a pivotal moment in both their lives, but instead of looking back at it, Lambo chooses to press forward with rearranged priorities emphasizing on self-care, collaboration and family. Lambo describes that 2016 incident, where Gibbs was arrested in France and extradited to Austria on charges of sexual abuse against two women, as the biggest challenge he’s had to face so far. He gathered and managed a legal team of 11 attor...

Arsenal vs Tottenham Hotspur: Creative Director TJ Sawyerr Gets Stuck Into The North London Derby

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur. The North London Derby. Not only one of the biggest games in the world of football but one of the most emotionally-charged sporting events of the calendar year. There’s something different in the air on match days like this – so it was only fitting to capture the energy, emotion and electricity of the event by the people that know the contest better than anyone else.  Islington-born photographer Danika Magdelena and creative director TJ Sawyerr are not only two of the most exciting talents in the UK creative scene, but two of the most excited people in North London on game day. Both lifelong Gunners (die-hard Arsenal supporters) headed down to one of the biggest games of the Premier League season from Finsbury Park station on a bright, October mo...
