Rap Song of the Week: Doechii and Rico Nasty Are “Swamp Bitches”

Rap Song of the Week breaks down your must-hear hip-hop tracks every Friday. Check out the full playlist here. This week, Doechii taps Rico Nasty for her new track “Swamp Bitches.” Doechii has been positioned to be the next one up from Top Dawg Entertainment after being chosen for the 2022 XXL Freshman Class. Boxing in the Tampa native as a rapper would be downplaying her talents, however, because she is just as comfortable with the flirtatious singing on tracks like her SZA collab “Persuasive” as she is with delivering hard-hitting bars on “Bitch I’m Nice.” Both tracks appear on Doechii’s new EP, she / her / black bitch, which opens with the Rico Nasty collaboration “Swamp Bitches.” In the most impressive display of her rapping skills to date, Doechii kicks the track off with snarling bar...

10 Films Canceled Before They Made It to Theaters

The recent merger of Warner Bros. and Discovery has already transformed the entertainment industry. As the companies’ streaming services, HBO Max and Discovery+, combine, HBO Max has canceled a slew of its original series, and on August 2nd, Warner Bros. shelved its planned Batgirl film despite the $90 million project already being filmed. HBO Max had originally planned to introduce a slew of streaming-exclusive DC Extended Universe films, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, new Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav opted to kill Batgirl and take the tax write-off instead. Zaslav plans to switch the company’s strategy completely and revert back to producing streaming films for a much smaller budget. Killing an expensive film in post-production seems like a shocki...

Sean Kingston: Call It A Comeback

How long until opportunity meets preparation? There’s no better time than the present, if you ask Sean Kingston, the Jamaican-bred pop mastermind behind one of the most instantly recognizable hit songs of the 2000s, “Beautiful Girls,” which ascended to the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 while Kingston was just 16 years old. Go to your favorite festival today and you’re bound to hear it between sets as the DJ keeps the crowd engaged: “Damn all these beauuuuuutiful girllllllllls.” The list of artists who have burst out of the gate and charted at No. 1 with their debut single is littered with music legends: Beyoncé, Whitney Houston, Britney Spears. The Sandman Review: Netflix Brings Neil Gaiman’s Dream to Life

The Pitch: What if amorphous concepts like Desire, Despair, and Death had anthropomorphic representations, and had realms over which they ruled? What if, amongst them, one of the most powerful was Dream (Tom Sturridge), who oversaw the land to which all living creatures come when their eyes slip shut and their minds take flight? That’s perhaps the simplest place to start when describing the premise for The Sandman, Netflix’s highly anticipated adaptation of the graphic novel series written by Neil Gaiman, with artists including Sam Kieth, Mike Dringenberg, Jill Thompson, Shawn McManus, Marc Hempel, Bryan Talbot, and Michael Zulli. Perhaps one of the most iconic examples of “sequential art” ever created, the ten-volume graphic novel series, despite many attempts over the decades by Hollywoo...

Here at SportsLens the writers got together to create our Ultimate FPL team for the 2022/23 season. After a lot of deliberation and overcoming fan bias, here’s the team we went with.  Goalkeeper Allison – Liverpool – Price £5.5m  Starting with the goalkeeper, Allison was a straightforward pick. Sharing the Golden Glove with Ederson and topping the FPL keepers table with 176 points, he will be looking to replicate last season and be a stable points earner for our team. Defense Trent Alexander-Arnold – Liverpool – Price £7.5m Another player who was cemented in this team was Alexander-Arnold who scored a massive 208 points last season. Trent has been consistent for several seasons now so there is no worries about him producing the same form for the upcoming season. With Liverpool’s ...

Blondie’s Clem Burke: ‘Iggy Was In Pantyhose… Basically Naked From the Waist Down’

Clem Burke, most well known as the drummer for Blondie, has truly lived it up. Even though he thought he’d be retired by 30, he’s still going, and living it up, with a soon-to-be-released memoir to boot. He has been the drummer for four different bands inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame—including Blondie, the Ramones, the Go-Go’s, and 2022 inductees the Eurythmics—and has received an Honorary Doctorate of Music from the University of Gloucestershire for his Clem Burke Drumming Project. The man just won’t stop. I caught up with Clem a few months back, as he was getting off stage playing Cruel World Fest in Pasadena with Blondie. He told me all about his many adventures on tour, starting with playing with Iggy Pop in the late ‘70s. Clem Burke (in white T-shirt) with Chris Stein (...

Fan Chant: ENHYPEN Interview, ATEEZ EP Breakdown, and More

Hello and welcome to Fan Chant, a new weekly column for K-pop fans, stans, and newbies alike. Each week, I’ll be rolling out interviews, lists, and all kinds of content to keep you in the loop on the latest and greatest from our friends in Seoul and beyond. I’m a Contributing Editor here at Consequence, and while I have the joy of getting to write about so many things — pop and indie music, festivals, and even film and TV — one of my most favorite parts of my job is getting to write about K-pop. I love how passionate K-pop fans are; it’s genuinely rewarding as a writer to get to share my work with people who pay attention to every word choice and turn of phrase in a piece. The first piece of writing I ever had published here at Consequence was about BTS (way back in 2020, in the “Dynamite”...
