Putting a much-needed spotlight on electronic music’s founders, new documentary Sisters with Transistors seeks to tell the story of the genre’s origins and, most importantly, the lesser known women who made modern electronic music possible. Sisters with Transistors, which premiered earlier this year at SXSW, Sheffield Doc Fest and CPH:DOX, where it won a special mention in the Next Wave award category, is now slated for a screening at the upcoming AFI Fest, hosted by the American Film Institute. With the event taking place from October 15th to 22nd, Sisters with Transistors is one of seven LGBTQ films to be featured, according to Q Voice News. You can watch it on October 17th at 12PM PT. When presented with a car like the 986-horsepower, 211-mph plug-in hybrid SF90 Stradale, it’s easy to forget the high-tech, hypercar-building Ferrari of today got its start not long after cars started edging-out horses for daily transportation needs. In the years since, the Ferrari marque has gone through many cycles and changes, not the least of which have been changes to the Ferrari logo itself, the famed Prancing Horse. Origin of the Ferrari Logo The Ferrari Cavallino Rampante, or Prancing Horse, has been traced to origins as ancient as 1692, when a similar design was found on the regimental banner of the Royal Piedmont Regiment of the Duke of Savoy, Vittorio Amadeo II, by the Museo del Marchio Italiano. As Ferrari itself tells the tale, the marque’s eponymous founder, Enzo ...
Since its 2019 launch at Glastonbury Festival, UK-based organization Orca Sound Project (OSP) has been actively partnering with corporate clients to raise awareness for the global plastic waste crisis, namely ocean pollution. At Glastonbury, for example, OSP created a stage built entirely from recycled ocean plastic that volunteers had collected in England. Other partners include Miami Music Week, Ultra Music Festival and Amsterdam Dance Event. Now, OSP is calling attention to Ibiza, dance music’s island hub, where there are only five years left until the island’s landfills run out of room, according to the organization. A partnership with jewelry brand hW has culminated in a capsule collection sourced entirely from plastic collected from Ibiza’s beaches. With ...
Chrysler (now Fiat Chrysler Automobiles) has always been clever with the branding of its performance vehicles. You’re likely familiar with the Hellcat and the Demon, and that’s not even scratching the surface of classic models such as the Superbird, Road Runner, Super Bee, and Rampage. We couldn’t resist putting that last one in there to see if you were paying attention. By definition, the word “rampage” describes violent or excited behavior that is reckless, uncontrolled, or destructive. Originally powered by a 2.2-liter inline-four with 97 hp sent its front wheels, the Dodge Rampage compact pickup of the mid-1980s lacked the grunt to excite us (or anyone else, for that matter) to the point of violence. The first time I heard Van Halen was in my friend David Farmer’s garage. We’d had football practice, and I went over to his house after. His uncle was playing this music I’d never heard before, and I remember thinking, ‘What IS this?’ It made me want to move. It made me curious. It made the blood go through my veins a little quicker — and want to know more about where it came from. At my house, we’d heard a lot of country music, and whatever my mom and Aunt Sharon were listening to. But this was something very different. The tone of Eddie’s guitar, the way he played… the way the whole band played. It hit a sweet spot in me that never left. I didn’t know that I’d grow up and make music for a living, but I knew whatever I did, this would be part of it. Raw talent and hard work...

So far the page has broken down over 50 albums, including DAMN by Kendrick Lamar, ASTROWORLD by Travis Scott, When We All Fall Asleep Where Do We Go? by Billie Eilish, and Bangarang by Skrillex, which apparently has 8 “Shshshshshshouts” in it. Seeing what lyrics were repeatedly used throughout can help better understand the type of writers these artists are. Some aren...
Growing up in a house with musically obsessed parents ended up being a gift, but when I was 7, it was a nuisance. Car rides packed with blaring rock music (what’s now classic rock) were annoying, especially for a kid who was only interested in baseball. Dylan, Springsteen, the Dead, the Allmans and even U2 would cut away from Mets score updates. Then summer 1988 happened. Riding back from Atlantic Beach on a mundane summer late afternoon, I heard something on the radio. ”WHAT IS THIS?!” I exclaimed. My parents, sporting bemused grins, turned to each other, then to me. “It’s Van Halen,” my mother said. “Who is Ben Heaven?!” I asked. “NO, Van Halen!” “What’s this song and what is this sound?” “It’s ‘Jump’ and those are synthesizers.” That innocuous encounter ended up introducing me to the fi...
