Oscar Wang’s “Timeless Pavilion” Is a Place To Gather and Celebrate Togetherness

Ahead of the Lunar New Year, Oscar Wang has unveiled the “Timeless Pavilion” in Hong Kong’s LANDMARK mall. While Wang has previously collaborated with artists and designers to create large-scale projects of this caliber, the “Timeless Pavilion” is technically the first artistic representation solely by him and his creative studio, Open Work.An amalgamation of architecture and art, the pavilion complements its ultra-sleek surroundings with Wang's signature east-meets-west vision. The Shanghai-based multidisciplinary artist also transformed the mall’s BELOWGROUND space into a separate section, dubbed “Timeless Games.” With "Timeless Games," Wang invites visitors to participate in a life-size board game all the while lounging in the mall’s hybrid retail space.Ahead of the installation’s openi...

Oliver Tree Has Made a Career Out of Shapeshifting

It’s not hard to believe that Oliver Tree would rather make movies than music, even if “Miss You,” a cut from his latest LP Alone In a Crowd, boasts half a billion streams on Spotify. “I wanted to be a filmmaker so my music videos are perhaps a different way of satisfying those dreams,” Tree says. A decade, and a rebrand or two later after inking his first record deal at only 20 years old, the Santa Cruz-born artist calls in from New York amid a US tour, which he refers to as “somewhere between a Broadway musical and a high school play.”For all his streaming success, the quirky, experimental artist still finds himself in the director’s chair. With each album, Tree introduces a new alter ego, who then stars in the accompanying videos, typically montages featuring brazen sketches and stunts....

Eric Mancha Discusses His Artistic Inspirations, Reveals New ‘Eastside Pepe’ Painting

"The way I make my paintings is based on my connection to people," says Eric Mancha. The Texas-born, LA-based artist is calling in from his studio to talk about Eastside Pepe, his latest artwork that draws inspiration from a serendipitous meeting Mancha had in LA's Boyle Heights neighborhood.Mancha views the subjects of his paintings as part of his extended community and uses his meetings with his subjects (chance encounters, more often than not) as an opportunity to communicate emotions through their likeness — always with their permission, of course. Besides their expressive use of form and color to spotlight their subjects, Mancha's works aim to make his community feel both seen and represented in spaces they usually do not. During his 2022 Que Somos show at the Beverly Hills gallery Gr...
