LL Cool J is bringing back Rock the Bells, but as the man himself said, “Don’t call it a comeback!” The legacy hip-hop festival returns August 6th with a lineup featuring Ice Cube, Lil Kim, Rick Ross, and more. Rock the Bells, named for a song of the same name off LL Cool J’s classic 1985 album Radio, first launched in 2004 and featured a reunited Wu-Tang Clan just months before Ol’ Dirty Bastards death. The fest returned in various forms through 2013, when poor sales put the project to bed. LL Cool J revived it as the name of his SiriusXM radio channel, and following a trademark lawsuit he’s now ready to take another pass at the festival format. This latest iteration of Rock the Bells will take place in LL Cool J’s hometown of Queens, New York. He’ll be performing with DJ Z-Trip...
Joyner Lucas was announced to play Lollapalooza this July, but he’s not too happy about it. In a lengthy Twitter meltdown, the rapper told the festival to remove him from the bill for disrespecting his name with a mid-level placement on the lineup flier — especially in comparison to “goofy ass” headliner Machine Gun Kelly. Lucas began his rant with concern over being placed in small font in the middle of the festival flier, rather than printed in bold at the top with the headliners, where he clearly thinks he belongs. “I’m the biggest independent artist period with the exception of my n—- tech. And I got the numbers & the fans & the [money] to back that statement up,” Lucas tweeted. The rapper also claimed that he didn’t agree to perform at Lollapalooza, citing an unsatisfactory of...

You know how it goes: As the festival lineup print gets smaller, the artists tend to be lesser known. But there’s one act toward the bottom of the Lollapalooza 2022 lineup poster who’s actually pretty famous: David Solomon, CEO of Goldman Sachs. The leader of the investment bank is set to perform a DJ set at the Chicago festival this July. Solomon, who’s served as Goldman Sachs’ chief executive officer since 2018, has dabbled in DJing for a while now. “[I] kind of stumbled into it as a hobby, and now I just do it for fun,” he said in a 2017 Goldman Sachs podcast. Solomon tends to spin records at a couple of elite events a year, with the profits going to charity. His resume boasts a 2019 Amazon event and a pre-Super Bowl LVI party hosted by Sports Illustrated, according to Bloomberg. ...

Coachella Music Festival has quietly updated its health and safety rules and will not require proof of vaccination, a negative COVID-19 test, mask wearing, or any other pandemic precautions for the 2022 event. “In accordance with local guidelines, there will be no vaccination, testing or masking requirements at Coachella 2022,” organizers wrote. The change comes as the state of California loosens its COVID-19 rules, mandating masks only for certain indoor environments, and ordering vaccination or a negative test only for indoor events of 1,000 or more attendees. And while nearby Los Angeles County is keeping several precautions in place, Coachella is held in Riverside County, where officials are falling back on state guidelines. The CDC has repeatedly held that outdoor events are...
