Rolling Loud 2021 Day 2 Live Gallery: Rick Ross, Rod Wave, French Montana, Kodak Black and More
Day 2 of the 2021 edition of Rolling Loud New York brought mega-Spooky Season weather, as temperatures dipped and the evening culminated in some unfortunate rain on Friday, October 29th. That didn’t stop festivalgoers, however, from turning up to J. Cole, Rick Ross and many more. (We’ve got all of the highlights in our Day 2 recap here.) Rolling Loud New York Day 2 Recap: Rainy Weather Couldn’t Stop J. Cole, City Girls Showed Out and More
If the Day 1 theme of Rolling Loud New York 2021 was hometown rappers reigning supreme, the driving force on Friday (October 29th) was Mother Nature. Beginning as a crisp, overcast autumn day with winds strong enough to tip over garbage cans, it started drizzling around 7:30 p.m. before giving way to a full-blown rainstorm shortly after J. Cole took the main stage at 8:45. The Dreamville founder was unfazed by the weather, giving an all-time performance that those in attendance will never forget. Rolling Loud New York Day 1 Recap: 50 Cent, DaBaby, Lil Uzi Vert, and More
Rolling Loud returned to New York City on Thursday (October 28th) after a one-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic. After a rocky start caused by set times not being announced until the day of, there was palpable excitement in the air for hip-hop fans in attendance. Day 1 was set up to be a homecoming for several rappers scheduled to play the main stage, and 50 Cent, Joey Bada$$, and Dave East were triumphant with some of the strongest performances thus far. Lil Uzi Vert, Flo Milli, and IDK also turned in standout sets. However, 50’s set was marred by the return of DaBaby to the Rolling Loud stage after delivering a homophobic rant at the festival’s Miami edition in late July. Austin City Limits was back at Zilker Park this past weekend for Weekend 2 — and so were we. After providing daily live galleries from Weekend 1, Consequence photographer Amy Price returned to capture all the going-ons of the three-day event. The glory of a two-weekend festival is that on the second go-around, you can capture the sets you missed the first time, like the legends Duran Duran. It was just a few months ago that Foo Fighters welcomed back live music in New York City with their Madison Square Garden show, and that already feels like a lifetime ago. If that was the city healing, the return of Governors Ball is NYC thriving. The festival kicked off its 10th anniversary celebration on Friday night, beckoning the throngs of music-hungry youths to its new location at Citi Field. Riot Fest raged on in Chicago’s Douglass Park for a third day on Saturday, September 18th. Gogol Bordello hit the Roots Stage for a joyous sunset show, while Chicago native Vic Mensa performed songs from his debut mixtape Innanetapeover over on the Riot Stage. Later, Rise Against delivered a cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Fortunate Son,” with an assist from Fucked Up’s Damian Abraham. Saturday closed with Riot Fest favorite Run the Jewels, whose set served as their “third show in three years,” as El-P told the crowd.
