Netflix has cut loose the first trailer for Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio, the auteur’s new stop-motion adaptation of the classic tail. Directed by del Toro alongside Mark Gustafson from a script by the former with Matthew Robbins (Crimson Peak), the movie marks del Toro’s first feature-length animated movie. He’d been trying to get the project financed since 2010, and fans of Hellboy II: The Golden Army know stop-motion has been a passion of the filmmaker for some time. The movie will premiere at the Venice Film Festival August 31st to September 10th, and the first look photo reveals a haunted look in Fraser’s eyes to accompany his transformation into a 600-pound man. Based on the award-winning play by Samuel D. Hunter, The Whale tells the story of a morbidly obese recluse attempting to reconnect with his estranged daughter. Jurassic World resuscitated Steven Spielberg’s beloved dinosaur franchise and spawned two blockbuster sequels, but according to Xbox creator Seamus Blackley, the film began as a video game. In a Twitter thread that began on July 22nd, Blackley explained that in 2012 he began developing a new Jurassic Park video game at the behest of Spielberg, who was hoping to bring back the franchise. The Guardians may soon be standing down: James Gunn confirmed that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the last standalone entry for those characters. The Comic-Con audience was also treated to a preview clip that reportedly features baby Rocket Raccoon, as well as the news that Chukwudi Iwuji and Maria Bakalova had joined the cast. The final entry with the Guardians in the title is set to arrive May 5th, 2023, though it may not be the end for those characters. As expected, Marvel rolled out some huge news during its hour at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, with mastermind Kevin Feige essentially rolling out what to expect from Phases 4-6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Key to that announcement was the long-awaited confirmation that a new Fantastic Four was in the works for 2024, and that Phase 6 of the MCU would include two new Avengers films: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars.
