Neve Campbell Won’t Return for Scream 6 Following Low-Ball Offer

Looks like ultimate final girl Neve Campbell is making Scream 5 her final turn as Sidney Prescott — at least for now. The veteran actress will not be returning for Scream 6.  “Sadly I won’t be making the next Scream film,” Campbell announced on Monday (via Deadline). “As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream. I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise.” Campbell continued: “It’s been a very difficult decision to move on. To all my Scream fans, I love you. You’ve always been so incredibly supportive to me. I’m forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years.” Advertisement Campbell’s Sidney has anchored th...

Profiled by The New York Times, the fledgling entrepreneur explained that she’ll be sitting in the director’s chair for many of the platform’s adaptations, while also licensing existing content such as 2013’s Random Encounters starring a pre-Royal Wedding Meghan Markle and the 2014 rom-com Two Night Stand starring Miles Teller as well as tried and true swooners like 1995’s Sabrina — yes, the one with Harrison Ford — and 1996’s The English Patient. MUNA Cover Britney Spears’ “Sometimes” for Fire Island Soundtrack: Stream

MUNA have paid tribute to Britney Spears with a cover of the pop princess’ 1999 classic “Sometimes.” Stream the track below. For their take, the queer trio reimagine the hit as a churning electro-tinged dreamscape. “Sometimes I run, sometimes I hide/ Sometimes I’m scared of you/ But all I really want is to hold you tight, treat you right/ Be with you day and night/ Baby, all I need is time,” Katie Gavin sings on the chorus before cutting out the schmaltz of the song’s bridge in favor of an extended instrumental break. The pop band’s cover of the ballad will be featured in Hulu’s upcoming gay rom-com Fire Island. Based loosely on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, the film stars Joel Kim Booster (who also wrote the screenplay), Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang, Conrad Ricamora, Ja...

Fire Island Review: A Delicious Jane Austen-Infused Rom-Com That Matches the Master’s Wit

The Pitch: Right from the jump, thanks to the voiceover of Noah (Joel Kim Booster) and a carefully planted copy of Pride and Prejudice, Fire Island tells you what it’s going to be — a retelling of the Jane Austen classic tale, relocated to a place and time that Jane Austen would have had a very hard time imagining: the titular gay party mecca centered in the hamlets of Cherry Grove and Fire Island Pines. Noah and his friends (including Matt Rogers, Tomás Matos, and Torian Miller) are making their annual trek to the island for a week of fun, sun, drugs, dancing, and most importantly — hooking up. But this year, things are a bit different. For one thing, their beloved adoptive mom Erin (Margaret Cho) has to sell her house on the island soon, giving this trip an air of finality. And also, Noa...

Jerrod Carmichael Slams Cancel Culture: “That’s Just to Give Boring People Something Interesting to Talk About”

Breaking news: A famous comedian has an opinion about cancel culture. Jerrod Carmichael is the latest funnyman to chime in on the topic, saying during a new roundtable interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he thinks “cancelation” is just coinage “to give boring people something interesting to talk about.” The interview in question featured Carmichael alongside fellow TV comedians Danny McBride, Michael Che, Will Forte, Jake Johnson, and Bowen Yang. The topic of cancel culture arose when interviewer Lacey Rose asked Che about a recent episode of his show That Damn Michael Che, during which the SNL star explored what being “canceled” might actually feel like. “I think the lie that we tell each other, and ourselves, is that we don’t feel [being canceled],” but we...

Adam Sandler Opts for the Lay Up with Broad Sports Drama Hustle: Review

The Pitch: In his first major dramatic outing since 2019’s Uncut Gems, Adam Sandler returns to the arena of basketball, this time as Stanley Sugarman, a depressed but whip-smart scout for the Philadelphia 76ers. Unlike the impulsive, materialistic Howard Ratner, Sugarman is a selfless and honest working man, tirelessly trotting around the world to bring the best of the best to the NBA. Even with his passion for the game, Sugarman’s intense drive causes friction both at work and at home. His stubborn approach drives a wedge between him and his slimy boss Vin (Ben Foster) and his constant international traveling costs him quality family time with his supportive wife Teresa (Queen Latifah) and their aspiring-filmmaker daughter (Jordan Hull). On one lucky scouting trip to Spain, Sugarman comes...

What the Johnny Depp/Amber Heard Verdict Means for Depp’s Future Career

It seems like an inevitability, at this point: Johnny Depp will be back on the big screen again soon. Not that he’s felt exactly absent from our screens over the last several months, as his defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard raged not just in a Virginia courtroom but across the entire Internet. The resulting decision was not a clear-cut victory for either side, but with Depp being awarded $10 million in compensatory damages in comparison to Heard being awarded $2 million, the jury made it clear who they thought was more in the wrong here. However, while Depp fans are treating yesterday’s verdict as a clear-cut victory for the star, the question becomes: What happens next, at least in terms of Depp’s career — the very thing he accused Heard of damaging?
