HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Chicago Tribune / Getty Former Empire actor Jussie Smollett, who was later disgraced after being convicted of making false reports about what he alleged to be a hate crime in 2019, has directed a new film.   Smollett’s first project since his fall from grace, a full-length feature film called B-Boy Blues was directed and financed, in part, by the actor. The film is an adaptation of the 1994 novel by James Earl Hardy about the lives of Black gay men in New York City.  It’s been described as “a clash of class and culture when Mitchell Crawford, a college educated journalist from Brooklyn and Raheim Rivers, a bike messenger from Harlem, fall in love.” The film has previously been seen by fans at the 2021 American Black Film Festival where it w...

Kate Moss Undermines Amber Heard’s Testimony, Says Johnny Depp Helped Her After Falling Down Stairs

Kate Moss took the stand virtually on Wednesday in the $50 million Johnny Depp–Amber Heard defamation trial, pushing back against a rumor that her ex-boyfriend had shoved her down the stairs and undermining Heard’s testimony on the incident. The supermodel only spoke for a few minutes, with Heard’s defense team declining to cross-examine her, The Hollywood Reporter and Deadline reported. “He never pushed me, kicked me or threw me down any kind of stairs,” Moss said via video link from Gloucester, England. “As I left the room, I slid down the stairs and I hurt my back. And I screamed because I didn’t know what happened to me, and I was in pain. He came running back to help me and carried me to my room and got me medical attention.” Advertisement Related Video Depp and Mo...

Ricky Gervais Defends His Transphobic Jokes: “That’s What Comedy Is For”

Ricky Gervais evidently hasn’t learned any lessons from Chris Rock or Dave Chappelle about behaving himself onstage. Despite the backlash he’s received for the blatant transphobia in his new Netflix special SuperNature, the Office (UK) star defended his decision to crack jokes about “taboo subjects,” saying he thinks “that’s what comedy is for.” “I think that’s what comedy is for, really — to get us through stuff,” Gervais said during a recent appearance on BBC’s The One Show. “I deal in taboo subjects because I want to take the audience to a place it hasn’t been before, even for a split second. Most offense comes from when people mistake the subject of a joke with the actual target.” Following SuperNature‘s release, LGBTQ+ organization GLAAD took to Twitter to share their frustration...

Child Actor in Jaws Named Police Chief of Town Where It Was Filmed

If you, like us, can’t watch old films without wondering what the child actors are doing now, we have some news for you: Jonathan Searle, who played one of the boys who staged a shark attack in Jaws, was just voted to become police chief of Oak Bluffs — the Martha’s Vineyard town where the Steven Spielberg classic was filmed. In case you need a refresher, the 1975 blockbuster stars Roy Scheider as Martin Brody, a police chief looking to hunt down a shark that’s been wreaking havoc on the quaint fictional island. Searle and his brother Steven play two kids who have the ill-advised idea to fake an encounter using a cardboard fin — or, as the film’s credits so scrupulously describe them, “Boy Swimmers with Cardboard Fin.” Per the Vineyard Gazette, Searle is a native of Martha’s...

Christian Bale’s Thor: Love and Thunder Villain Gorr the God Butcher, Explained

The new trailer for Thor: Love and Thunder introduced audiences to the latest threat in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher. The pale alien has drawn visual comparison to He Who Shall Not Be Named, but trust us when we say Gorr is even more maddeningly powerful and terrifying. The trailer only teased the depth of Gorr’s motivation and abilities, as the character has a complicated backstory that stabs right into the core of the origins of the Marvel universe. Of course, it’s unclear exactly which elements of the character’s history will be adapted by Taika Waititi (under the guidance of Kevin Feige). While we won’t know for sure what this take on the God Butcher will bring to the table, we thought it prudent ahead of Love and Thunder’s July 8th rel...

Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis Soundtrack Features Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, Jack White, and More

If a soundtrack has both Elvis Presley’s and Baz Luhrmann’s names attached to it, chances are it’s gonna be good. Case in point: the OST to Luhrmann’s forthcoming biopic promises “original songs and recordings” by Stevie Nicks, Tame Impala, and Jack White, just to name a few. Elvis will also feature contributions from Eminem, Denzel Curry, Diplo, Jazmine Sullivan, Gary Clark Jr., Måneskin. Kacey Musgraves previously revealed she would be covering “Can’t Help Falling In Love” for the soundtrack, while Doja Cat’s “Hound Dog”-sampling “Vegas” serves as the project’s first single. Of course, much of the soundtrack will come from the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll himself, as well as the man playing him, Austin Butler (who we’ve already heard do his best impression in the trailer). We’ll also hear ...

While he’s away, Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) is serving as Queen of New Asgard, a role she finds isn’t as exciting as it might have s...

Courtney Love Says Johnny Depp Saved Her Life After 1995 Overdose

Courtney Love has credited Johnny Depp for saving her life after she overdosed in 1995 in Los Angeles. “I don’t really wanna make judgments publicly. I just want to tell you that Johnny gave me CPR in 1995 when I overdosed outside The Viper Room,” Love recalled in a now-deleted video posted to her friend Jessica Reed Kraus’ Instagram over the weekend. Love also said the actor supported her daughter Frances Bean Cobain while the Hole singer was dealing with addiction. “Johnny — when I was on crack and Frances was having to suffer through that with social workers — wrote her a four-page letter that she’s never showed me on her 13th birthday,” Love said, adding that they didn’t really know each other.
