R.I.P. Brad Allan, Stuntman and Coordinator in Jackie Chan and Kingsman Films, Dead at 48

Brad Allan, the influential Australian stuntman, stunt coordinator, and actor who brought fight scenes to life in iconic movies and served as a longtime member of Jackie Chan’s team, has passed away. Allan reportedly died on August 7th from an unspecified illness. He was 48 years old. News of Allan’s death was announced by Jackie Chan on his official website. “Many years ago while I was filming Mr. Nice Guy, he was just a fan and I remember him coming to visit the set,” wrote Chan in his eulogy. “At that time, he was crazy about Chinese Kung Fu and had practiced it for many years. It was because of his amazing skills and talent, he transformed from being a fan to a stuntman, and eventually joined my JC Stunt Team. He even fought with me in Gorgeous, and I think a lot of people remember thi...

Sorry, But Jake Gyllenhaal Also Doesn’t Shower Often

Jake Gyllenhaal has recently been selected as the face of Prada’s new fragrance, Luna Rossa Ocean. Hopefully, he’s stocking up on a few bottles, because — and we hate to be the ones to break this to you — the A-list actor is admittedly lax about his shower schedule. Not long after Ashton Kutcher, Mila Kunis, Dax Shepard, and Kristen Bell all divulged their slightly irregular bathing routines, the Brokeback Mountain star has also revealed some compromising details about his own hygiene in a new interview with Vanity Fair. “More and more I find bathing to be less necessary, at times,” Gyllenhaal said. “I do believe, because Elvis Costello is wonderful, that good manners and bad breath get you nowhere. So I do that. But I do also think that there’s a whole world of not bathing that is also re...

He’s All That Trailer Updates All the Worst Parts of She’s All That for 2021: Watch

Despite being a ’90s teen rom-com favorite, She’s All That barely held up at the time of its release in 1999. The whole “transform an outsider into a popular kid so that everyone can learn lessons about themselves” thing reinforced the grossness of high school hierarchy as much as anything. Now that social media has made teenagers that much more judgmental, it’s apparently time to reiterate those lessons with a remake. Netflix is releasing the gender-swapped He’s All That on August 27th, and the streamer has today delivered the first trailer. From the looks of it, She’s All That screenwriter R. Lee Fleming and Mean Girls director Mark Walters decided to take all the worst parts of the original and make it 2021. TikTok star (aka content thief, aka not an actress) Addison Rae plays Padg...

Brendan Fraser to Appear in Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon

Martin Scorsese’s upcoming movie Killers of the Flower Moon already had an undeniably stellar cast, but it just got even better because Brendan Fraser has been announced as a new addition. Fraser will appear in the new feature film alongside Oscar winners Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio. Also rounding out the cast are fan favorite Jesse Plemons and real-life country rockers Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson. Scorsese’s movie will be a direct adaptation of David Grann’s true-crime thriller Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI. Set in 1920s Oklahoma, the story revolves around the gristly murders of members of the Osage Nation, a group of people who became the richest folks in the world overnight when oil was found under their land. Showtime Unveils Trailer for New Rick James Documentary Bitchin’: Watch

From icon to criminal to “I’m Rick James, bitch,” the complicated legacy of the “Super Freak” singer goes under the microscope in the new Showtime documentary Bitchin’: The Sound and Fury of Rick James. Directed by Emmy nominee Sacha Jenkins (Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men), Bitchin’ will premiere on Friday, September 3rd.  Most of the newly revealed first trailer focuses on the more likable aspects of the man born James Johnson, Jr.: his charisma, his activism, and his irresistible songwriting. Through an intense search across the globe and years of restoration of the visual and audio archive found, this story is finally able to be told.” Advertisement Related Video Zeppelin were previously chronicled in their 1976 concert film The Song Remains the ...

New Trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage Unleashes CGI Chaos: Watch

The Spider-Man cinematic universe is already pretty convoluted — what with Sony’s Universe of Marvel Characters, Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire Spidey films, and whatever’s coming with Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now we have to get ready for what looks like pure on-screen chaos with the upcoming Venom: Let There Be Carnage, a new trailer for which has just been revealed. The Andy Serkis-directed sequel to 2018’s Venom looks to up the madness of the original in just about every way possible. Tom Hardy is back as Eddie Brock, a hapless journalist adjusting to being the host body for the alien symbiote calling itself Venom. When Brock is given the opportunity to interview famed serial killer Cletus Kasady (a perfectly cast Woody Harrelson), he unwittingly spawns another symbiot...

Ranking Every Christopher Nolan Movie From Worst to Best

This article originally ran in 2014 and has been updated. Welcome to Dissected, where we disassemble a band’s catalog, a director’s filmography, or some other critical pop-culture collection in the abstract. It’s exact science by way of a few beers. This time, we sort through the best and worst of Hollywood’s greatest hope for original blockbuster filmmaking. I saw Memento twice in theaters. The first was due to the great reviews it was getting early on and the fact that it starred the great Guy Pearce. The second was after walking out of Pearl Harbor about 10 minutes in — just after the dogfight scene, if I recall correctly — and into the theater next door to revisit the work of a young genius named Christopher Nolan. I thought to myself, I hope this guy sticks around. And he has. In just...

Taika Waititi’s Flash Gordon Adaptation Is Now a Live-Action Film

According to producer John Davis, the ever-prolific Taika Waititi’s planned animated adaptation of Flash Gordon has grown into a full blown live-action film. “Taika is writing it. It was a movie that was a huge influence on him growing up. It is one of his favorite movies,” Davis told Collider in a new interview. “He initially said to me, ‘Let’s do it animated.’ Then we got into it and started developing it and he said, ‘No, let’s do it live-action.’ I said, ‘Even better.’” Back in 2019, Waititi was first hired by Disney to “crack” the long-gestating project, which was previously attached to directors like Matthew Vaughn and Julius Avery over the years. At the time, the Thor: Ragnarok filmmaker’s take was said to be more faithful to the original source material than the cam...

Waterworld TV Sequel in the Works with Director Dan Trachtenberg

One of Hollywood’s most notorious wrecks is getting raised from the depths. A TV sequel series to the beloved 1995 critical flop Waterworld is being developed by the film’s original producers. John Davis and John Fox confirmed the news in an interview with Collider, saying that director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane, the next Predator movie) is already onboard. “We’re not 100% sure on the approach to the show. But definitely, we’re in the building stages right now,” said Fox, noting that they’re expected to lock in a writer “over the next couple of weeks.” The plot will reportedly pick up with the same characters from the film 25 years later. Waterworld was set in future where polar ice caps had completely melted, covering all the Earth in ocean (prescient, n’est pas?). K...
