New Movie Sound of Metal, Starring Riz Ahmed, Set to Hit Theaters and Prime Video

A new movie titled Sound of Metal is set to hit select theaters and Amazon Prime Video in the coming months. The fictional film stars Riz Ahmed as a punk-metal drummer who fears the end of his career. His girlfriend Lou (played by Olivia Cooke), who is also his bandmate, checks him into a sober living house for the deaf. From there, the drummer has to decide whether to adapt to his new situation or pursue his beloved music career. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Gets Epic First Trailer: Watch

At long last, we have our first real look at the world of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. After much teasing and deliberation, Warner Bros. has let loose the first trailer for its star-studded epic in anticipation of its December 18th release. The trailer came packaged with a first look featuring the cast and crew that was hosted by uber fan Stephen Colbert. As you’ll see, Villeneuve has done his homework. The imagination within Frank Herbert’s iconic 1965 novel is on full display, and it appears the filmmaker may even surpass the creative heights he reached with 2017’s Blade Runner 2049. Everyone looks spectacular too, particularly Timothée Chalamet as Prince Paul Atreides. Villeneuve isn’t one to waste his star power, and it’s clear even now that this A-list cast will certainly add vivid s...

Nike Reveals Freddy Krueger Sneakers For This Halloween

One, two, Nike’s coming for you. Three, four, better check your stores. As Bloody Disgusting reports, the sneaker conglomerate is heading to Elm Street for the Halloween season as they’ve just unveiled a new pair of Air Max 95s inspired by Freddy Krueger. As you can see below, the sneaks are a mix of “Velvet Brown”, “University Red”, and “Team Red”, three colors lifted straight from the dream demon’s iconic sweater. There are also a few quirks to the design, including bloody Swooshes on the heels. Not gonna lie, Nike could have leaned a little harder into the red and green, but we dig the shoes nonetheless. The mesh really adds to the overall sweater aesthetic, and the little red bubbles on the soles just demand to be squeezed. Look for the sneakers to drop sometime in October — hopefully ...

Academy Awards Reveal New Diversity Requirements for Best Picture Contenders

Nearly five years ago, April Reign created the #OscarsSoWhite hashtag to call the film industry out on their blatant lack of representation onscreen and off. Today the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed its latest steps towards diversifying its nominees pool: new representation and inclusion standards for Oscars eligibility in the Best Picture category, the most prestigious award at the annual Academy Awards ceremony. As part of its Academy Aperture 2025 initiative, Academy governors DeVon Franklin and Jim Gianopulos headed a task force “to encourage equitable representation on and off screen in order to better reflect the diversity of the movie-going audience.” What they’ve designed with that group are four different standards for a Best Picture c...

Sacha Baron Cohen in Borat Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan (20th Century Fox) Sacha Baron Cohen has a brand new project in the works and it already sounds very nice. According to a new exclusive report from Collider, it looks like Cohen has not only finished shooting Borat 2, but he’s begun screening the sequel for “a select few industry types.” Citing industry sources, Collider reports that the sequel follows Borat in the modern day where he believes he’s a successful movie star due to the success of Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan. Shakespeare’s Shitstorm Is Lloyd Kaufman’s Manifesto for the Age of Outrage: Fantasia Fest Review

This review is part of our Fantasia Festival 2020 coverage. The Pitch: Legendary purveyors of late night schlock, Troma Entertainment put their own spin on William Shakespeare’s The Tempest by swapping out a tropical storm for gallons of whale feces and a deserted island for New Jersey. All of this in an attempt to skewer online culture and big pharma’s conquering of America with gross-out gags and a politically incorrect sensibility. What Is Past Is Prologue: That iconic Troma logo — you know, the one with the New York City skyline set against a blood red sky with spotlights in the air — is like a warm blanket for genre cinema lovers who were weaned by Gilbert Gottfried and Rhonda Sheer on USA’s Up All Night. The memorable, simplistic fan fare conjures up an instant wave of nostalgia, but...

Chadwick Boseman Didn’t Tell Marvel He Was Sick, Planned on Filming Black Panther 2

The passing of Chadwick Boseman came as a shock not only because of his relatively young age, but because few people knew he had colon cancer. Even studio executives at Disney and Marvel, who you’d think would have been aware given the longterm contracts they had with Boseman, were kept out of the loop, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Some have speculated that Marvel must have known about Boseman’s diagnosis, as it would make sense for major studios to have their blockbuster lead talents medically examined for insurance purposes. As film finance attorney Schuyler Moore explained to THR, that’s not necessarily the case. “Big studios don’t often [get] completion bonds,” Moore explained. “They are more prevalent in the indie filmmaking world. Sometimes, the big studios will look to insur...
