A24 Premieres Jonathan Glazer’s New Quarantine Short Film STRASBOURG 1518: Watch

Director Jonathan Glazer has returned with a new short film. It’s called STRASBOURG 1518 and features pulsing new music by composer Mica Levi, who worked with the filmmaker on 2014’s Under the Skin. A24 is streaming the short film here. Dubbed a “collaboration in isolation”, the 10-minute film gracefully oscillates between some of the “greatest dancers working today” as they perform alone in their respective homes. Not gonna lie, a few of the shots are pretty damn eerie. And they should be given that the whole thing was inspired by a dancing plague. Yes, a dancing plague. In July of 1518, a case of dancing mania washed over the citizens of Strasbourg, prompting 50 to 400 people to dance for days. Christopher Nolan’s Tenet Delayed Again: “We Will Share a New 2020 Release Imminently”

Christopher Nolan’s Tenet has been delayed a fourth time, and this time it’s indefinitely. Warner Bros. announced on Monday that they are bumping the highly anticipated blockbuster as COVID-19 cases continue to surge across the country. If you recall, the film had originally been set for a July 17th release, then July 31st, and most recently August 12th. “We will share a new 2020 release date imminently for Tenet,” said Warner Bros. Pictures Group chairman Toby Emmerich. “We are not treating Tenet like a traditional global day-and-date release, and our upcoming marketing and distribution plans will reflect that.” Emmerich explained, “Our goals throughout this process have been to ensure the highest odds of success for our films while also being ready to support our theater partne...

An Oral History of The Freshman: Matthew Broderick, Andrew Bergman, and Michael Lobell Revisit the 1990 Comedy

On July 20th, 1990, The Freshman hit theaters with all the right pieces. It had solid pitch, one of Hollywood’s sharpest scribes in writer/director Andrew Bergman, and ’80s icon and heartthrob Matthew Broderick. To top it all off, the mob comedy managed to even wrangle the Don himself Marlon Brando, who had all but retired by that point. It wasn’t a summer blockbuster, but it was a success for TriStar. Critics loved it, audiences enjoyed it, and the box office returns managed to nearly double the budget. In the years since, however, it has garnered a cult following, and many view it as one of the last great works of Brando’s legendary (and oft-puzzling) career. To commemorate the film’s 30th anniversary, we recently spoke with writer/director Andrew Bergman, producer Michael Lobell, and st...

Also present were Bryan Lee O’Malley, creator of the original Scott Pilgrim graphic novel, and th...

Boat From Jaws Being Rebuilt to Study Sharks

We’re gonna need another boat! The original creators behind the iconic Orca from Steven Spielberg’s Jaws are rebuilding the boat from scratch. What’s more, it’s all being captured in a new documentary that’s aptly titled, Return of the Orca. Along for the ride is Academy Award nominee and Jaws production designer Joe Alves, Martha’s Vineyard local Chris Crawford who worked on the OG Orca, and Jaws author Peter Benchley’s widow/Beneath the Waves director Wendy. According to the project’s press release: “Rather than hunting the great white shark, as in the film, part of the Orca’s new mission will be researching marine life and helping people better understand the varieties of shark species in the area around Martha’s Vineyard including great white sharks.” Editors’ Picks It’s a projec...

David Lynch Releases Eerie, Hypnotic New Video for “I Have a Radio”: Watch

David Lynch has returned with another gem for his increasingly popular YouTube channel. He’s turned the dial back to 2011 and has dropped an eerie, if not morbidly hypnotic, music video for Crazy Clown Time bonus track “I Have a Radio”. Even for the auteur, it’s not much. Two oil figures dance in unison to the track, looking like something out of a Stephen Gammell nightmare. If you make it through the full six minutes, you’ll be rewarded by a bunch of pig fucking noises. Watch “I Have a Radio” below. In quasi-related news, if you’re looking for the brighter side of Lynch, you would be wise to grab a cup of coffee, a black and white cookie, maybe even some Hennigans, and check out Sein Peaks.
