Tron 3 looked like it had ran out of lives after eight years in development hell, but Disney has decided to add more quarters. As The Hollywood Reporter notes, a concept starring Jared Leto is back in the game with veteran Disney director Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales) at the helm. Titled Tron: Ares, the film is said to be a sequel to 2011’s Tron: Legacy, itself a long-in-the-works follow-up to the 1982 special effects pioneer, Tron. The threequel has been bandied about since at least 2015, Leto became linked to the project back in 2017, and in 2020 it came close to happening with director Garth Davis. Now, Disney will try again. So far, no cast members from the previous Tron film...
British actor Julian Sands is one of two hikers who went missing last week in San Bernardino County. Police told ABC 7 that Sands’ family reported him missing on Friday evening and rescue teams have launched a search for him. “His wife did report him missing,” sheriff’s office spokesperson Gloria Huerta told ABC 7. “From what I understand, he left sometime that day for a hike and when he did not return, his family reported him missing.” Sands’ car was still parked in the area when the search began. The ongoing investigation has been difficult, however; unusually severe weather in Southern California means the search has been exclusively handled by air crews, and air resources are limited. Alec Baldwin will be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter in the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in October 2021. “After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the Rust film crew,” New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies announced Thursday (via Deadline). “On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.” Like Baldwin, Rust armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed is also charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. Both could face up to $10,000 in fines and a total of over six years in jail. Dave Halls, the film’s first assistant director who handed Baldwin the loaded gun...
If the investors in Jurassic Park never figured out that the dinosaurs always kill people, then the manufacturers of M3GAN can be just as entertainingly dense. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a sequel to the killer horror movie — aptly titled, M3GAN 2.0 — hit theaters on January 17th, 2025. M3GAN, aka the Model 3 Generative Android, romped its way to a $30 million box office in its opening weekend and has made nearly $100 million to date. Those are the kind of numbers that would be impressive for almost anyone except James Cameron, let alone a movie with a $12 million budget. M3GAN starred Allison Williams as the human protagonist, with a team of Amie Donald and Jenna Davis as the titular villain. It was directed by Gerard Johnston and boasted a script by Akela Coo...
[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for A Man Called Otto.] Up until a certain point in 2022, Kate Bush was having a great year: Thanks to a little show called Stranger Things, her 1985 single “Running Up That Hill” became the song of the summer, making an entire generation sit up and appreciate the English singer/songwriter. But then came a film called A Man Called Otto, and perhaps the worst use of a song in a movie I’ve ever seen. What A Man Called Otto does to “This Woman’s Work”… It isn’t just on the nose, it’s a middle finger jammed right up the left nostril. There are no shortage of reasons why A Man Called Otto, the Tom Hanks-starring adaptation of Fredrik Backman’s acclaimed novel, doesn’t work. Many of them have to do with the choice to cast America’s Dad as a suicida...

Brendan Fraser embodied one of the most-discussed roles of 2022 in his comeback film The Whale, and when he was honored with Best Actor at the Critics Choice Awards, he delivered another emotional performance in his acceptance speech. “I was in the wilderness, and I probably should have left a trail of breadcrumbs, but you found me,” Fraser said, thanking The Whale director Darren Aronofsky. “And like all the best directors, you merely just showed me where to go to get to where I needed to be.” To a standing ovation, Fraser continued, “If you, like a guy like Charlie, who I played in this movie, in any way struggle with obesity or you just feel like you’re in a dark sea, I want you to know that if you too can have the strength to just get to your feet and go to the light, go...
The Amy Winehouse biopic Back to Black has shared the first look at actress Marisa Abela’s portrayal of the UK singer. Filming on the project is set to begin on January 16th in London. I got a job at the legendary KOKO CLUB, and I can still breathe every market stall, vintage shop and street,” said Johnson in a statement. “A few years later Amy wrote her searingly hone...

Michael Bay is in legal trouble in Italy, where a pigeon — a protected bird in the country — allegedly died on his film set. According to TheWrap, a homing pigeon was killed by a dolly during the filming of the 2019 Netflix film 6 Underground. An unnamed individual took a photo of the incident and reported it to the Italian authorities due to a national law that prohibits harming, capturing, or killing any wild bird. As the director of the film, Bay is being held responsible for the pigeon’s death. Italian authorities offered to allow Bay to pay a small fine and settle the case, but he has repeatedly declined the offer, maintaining his innocence in the incident. “I am a well-known animal lover and major animal activist,” Bay told TheWrap. “No animal involved in the production was injured o...
