Reese Witherspoon is going back to high school to star in Tracy Flick Can’t Win, a sequel to 1999’s Election that will find the indomitable Flick as a stressed-out but still ambitious assistant principal. As Variety reports, the film is based on Tom Perrotta’s book of the same name, which he published earlier this year as a follow-up to his own novel, 1998’s Election. The new movie is set to debut on Paramount+, and will be directed by Election filmmaker Alexander Payne, who will co-write the script with Jim Taylor. Election proved that Witherspoon was a rising star and established Payne as an in-demand actor’s director, paving the way for such films as About Schmidt and Sideways. It followed the Type-A Tracy as she...

When Bryce Dessner first worked with Alejandro González Iñárritu on The Revenant, one of the first lessons he learned from the director was “his incredible attention to detail for the smallest details.” Now, Consequence’s 2021 Composer of the Year has reunited with Iñárritu to score the soundtrack for the filmmaker’s latest project, Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths. Co-composed by Dessner and Iñárritu, the album features the track “Mateo’s Freedom,” which Consequence is exclusively premiering on Thursday (December 8th). Dessner tells Consequence that the poignant song was composed for a “long and powerful visual sequence in the film” without any dialogue. He says working on the piece was “very inspiring” and stemmed from a “detailed process of working close...
Bella Poarch’s “Dolls” alludes to revenge with lines like, “Think that you can play with me, you better watch your back,” making it the perfect soundtrack for the latest trailer for the Blumhouse horror film M3GAN. In the clip, the titular AI-powered doll breaks free from her programming and goes on a murdering spree. Like most robots in fiction, M3GAN (short for Model 3 Generative Android) was made with good intentions. A toy company roboticist named Gemma (Allison Williams) created the doll to be the ultimate companion for children and gives a prototype to her orphaned niece Cady (The Haunting of Hill House’s Violet McGraw) to be both a protector and a companion. It’s exactly M3GAN’s protective instincts that cause the doll to commit her first murder after a bully won’t leave Cady alone....
What would you do if you were cast as the lead in a big-budget film opposite Brad Pitt? If you’re Margot Robbie, you carefully orchestrate an improvised kiss scene with him, the actress revealed in a new interview with E! News. The smooch in question will be seen in Babylon, the upcoming period drama from Damien Chazelle. Set in the late 1920s, Babylon follows a group of actors and filmmakers as they adapt to the movie business’ transition from silent films to talkies. Robbie stars as Nellie, an aspiring actress who turns to veteran actor Jack Conrad (Pitt) to help her make her Hollywood dreams come true. At some point, Robbie revealed, the two share an impromptu kiss. “That wasn’t in the script,” Robbie told E! News. “But I thought, ‘When else am I gonna get the chance to kiss Brad Pitt? ...
Add this to the chaos that currently surrounds DC Comics properties: A Gal Gadot-starring Wonder Woman 3 may not be moving forward. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the previously greenlit film looks to be a casualty of the regime change at WarnerMedia-owned DC, which recently hired James Gunn and Peter Safran to guide the next phase of the beloved characters on screen. Wonder Woman 3 was set to be directed by Patty Jenkins, and she and writer Geoff Johns had turned in a treatment for the new film before being told by Gunn and Safran that it wouldn’t fit into future plans for the franchise. (THR notes that canceling the film could save Warner millions of dollars, as both Gadot and Jenkins were to receive pay bumps.) More awkwardly, just a day ago Gadot posted a message to social media ...
Anne Heche had traces of cocaine, cannabinoids, and benzodiazepines in her system at the time of her death, but there is no evidence that drugs were a contributing factor. The 53-year-old actress died on August 11th, six days after crashing her car into a Los Angeles home. According a final autopsy report released by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner (via E Online), cannabinoids were detected in Heche’s urine but not in her blood sample, which is “consistent with prior use but not at the time of injury.” The blood sample also showed presence of benzoylecgonine, an inactive metabolite of cocaine. Meanwhile, the fentanyl detected in her urine was “consistent with therapeutic use” by the hospital. Advertisement Related Video A toxicology report also found no ...
Whoopi Goldberg defended the 1974 satire Blazing Saddles on the December 7th episode of The View, pushing back against critics who claim it couldn’t be made in 2022. The conversation was sparked by Mindy Kaling’s recent appearance on Good Morning America, where she claimed that The Office is “so inappropriate now” and that most of the characters “would be canceled” today. Goldberg rejected the premise by citing Blazing Saddles, which might be more challenging for modern audiences. “Blazing Saddles, because it’s a great comedy, would still go over today,” she said. “There are a lot of comedies that are not good, okay? We’re just going to say that. That’s not one of them. Blazing Saddles is one of the greatest because it hits everybody.”...
The Pitch: 2022 has really seemed like The Year of Pinocchio. While the original 1883 Italian novel by Carlo Collodi has had its fair share of adaptations over the years (from classic Disney delights to, well, Pauly Shore in middle-aged twink mode), this year saw new takes on the material from two of cinema’s most acclaimed directors. But where Robert Zemeckis’ retelling felt morbid and soulless, master of the macabre Guillermo del Toro returns to gift us with a version that hits the classic beats of the fable, while slotting it handily into the concerns and aesthetics the director has pursued his entire career. The lumber is the same, but the construction is quite different: Pinocchio (the cherubic Gregory Mann) is still the wooden boy whittled into existence by old carpenter Geppett...
Hasbro and Paramount Pictures are bringing one of history’s most iconic role-playing games to the big screen next year with Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Ahead of the film’s premiere on March 31st, 2023, Paramount has today shared a closer look at how they brought fantastical creatures to life with a new behind-the-scenes featurette. Once described as “Game of Thrones with Princess Bride and with a little bit of Spinal Tap,” Honor Among Thieves boasts a cast led by Chris Pine, Rege-Jean Page, Hugh Grant, Jason Wong, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, and Sophia Lillis. “It’s about finding your own hero within,” Rodriguez says of the film’s premise in the new clip. “And each character has their own version of that journey.” Pi...
