Steven Spielberg has tapped Bradley Cooper to star in a new film based on the 1968 action classic Bullitt. According to Variety, the new Bullitt film will follow San Francisco cop Frank Bullitt in an all new adventure, meaning it’s less of a remake and more of a continuation. Beyond Spielberg’s direction, Josh Singer (The Post, Spotlight) is writing the movie’s screenplay, while Spielberg and Cooper are producing alongside Kristie Macosko Krieger. The original Bullitt was directed by Peter Yates and based on Robert L. Fish’s 1963 novel Mute Witness. Steve McQueen originally played the officer, who investigates the death of a mob informant he was supposed to protect. McQueen did his own stunts in the film’s iconic green Mustang, gifting us all with one of...
Suppose you’re a red-blooded American growing up anywhere near a television for the last thirty years. In that case, chances are A Christmas Story is at least a tangential part of your holiday memories. Regardless of your thoughts on the film itself — I think it’s perfectly fine, if exceedingly overplayed — there’s no mistake that it’s wormed its way into the American lexicon by sheer dint of its omnipresence on TV screens during the holidays. But how did such a small, independent holiday film — one with a decidedly jaundiced (and BB-pelted) eye towards the nostalgia of the 1940s — turn from a theatrical shrug into an unlikely American treasure? Let alone one that would spawn multiple sequels, with the latest, A Christmas Story Christmas, coming to VOD and HBO Max on November 17th. Let’s t...
Quentin Tarantino is looking to scale down his notoriously gargantuan style for the small screen. Speaking at an event this week for his new book Cinema Speculation, the filmmaker said he’s planning to take on a television series next year. Though Tarantino didn’t share any details about a plot or production, via Variety, he did disclose that he anticipates helming an eight-episode series. And while he’s certainly best known for his action-packed blockbusters, this wouldn’t be the first time he’s done TV: Back in 2005, he directed two episodes of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Tarantino has hinted at a return to television a few times in the years since then. Just last February, he was reportedly in talks to direct Timothy Olyphant in one to two episodes of ...
You might think that movie props are pretty much the same, but actually there’s a vas deferens. Will Ferrell’s favorite, as he told ITV1’s This Morning (via The Independent), is a pair of prosthetic testicles he stole from the set of 2008’s Step Brothers. “I have some interesting mementos from some of my films, but the most valuable one, literally, is from Step Brothers – prosthetics, of sorts,” he said. After prompting, he added, “Testicles.” “I just have a little special box I keep them in,” he explained. “The testicles I put on a drum set, and I bring them out for dinner parties.” Advertisement Related Video Presenters Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby then revealed a photo of Ferrell holding the prosthetic aloft, to which Ferrell responded, “That looks lik...
Kevin Spacey will be charged with seven more counts of sexual assault in the UK, ABC News reports. The charges stem from one victim who alleges a number of incidents occurred in 2001 and 2004. According to the Crown Prosecution Service, Spacey will face three counts of indecent assault, three counts of sexual assault, and one count of causing a person to engage in sexual activity without consent. “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr. Spacey are active and that he has the right to a fair trial,” Rosemary Ainslie, head of the CPS Special Crime Division, said in a statement. These seven charges follow four counts of sexual assault Spacey faced by the Crown Prosecution Service back in May. The actor was additionally charged with one cou...
While Brendan Fraser is making the award-season circuit in support of his new film, The Whale, he won’t be attending the Golden Globes, telling GQ in a new cover story, “No, I will not participate,” because the former head of the Globes’ Hollywood Foreign Press Association allegedly groped him. Fraser first related this purported sexual assault to GQ in 2018, saying that Philip Berk, former president of the HFPA, groped him at the Beverly Hills Hotel in 2003. Berk is no longer an HFPA member, but Fraser’s feelings on the organization haven’t softened. “I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” Fraser said. “My mother didn’t raise a hypocrite. You can c...
Get ready to return to Genovia, because The Princess Diaries 3 is in the works at Disney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel is being written by Aadrita Mukerji (Supergirl, Scorpion, Reacher) and is, in fact, a sequel, not a reboot, meaning it will continue the story established by 2001’s The Princess Diaries and 2004’s The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement. Anne Hathaway, who starred in both films as Princess Mia Thermopolis, does not yet have a deal to return for the sequel, but she’s long said she’d be down for a third movie, so here’s hoping she joins the cast if the film moves forward. The same goes for Julie Andrews, who played Mia’s grandmother, Queen Clarisse Renaldi. Related Video The Princess Diaries is based on Meg Cabot’...
Japan’s box office has been dominated recently by an anime film, which has held the number one spot for eleven consecutive weeks — only the third film ever to achieve such a feat. However, considering that the film is a One Piece property, it’s not at all surprising. In its 25-year-long run, the One Piece franchise has spawned an anime adaptation, books, theme park attractions, video games, plays, live-action series, and 15 theatrical films — including the upcoming One Piece Film: Red. Like popular series Dragon Ball and Naruto, One Piece has become a cultural icon not just in its home country but across the world, similar to the MCU. Here’s everything you need to know about it, including the order of the films. What Is One Piece? One Piece began as a Japanese shonen manga series by mangak...
Jack White is a member of the ridiculously stacked cast for Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film Killers of the Flower Moon, according to music supervisor Randall Poster. During a recent appearance on Billions showrunner Brian Koppelman’s podcast The Moment (via The Playlist), Poster made the reveal after being asked if Jason Isbell would be playing music for the film, to which Poster said no. After confirming Isbell was “acting only” and calling his performance “terrific,” Poster said there were several musicians acting in the movie, including Jack White. Advertisement Related Video “Jason Isbell, Jack White, uhh, oh, my god, who’s [that] famous blues harpist, older cat, it’s not Toots Thielemans,” Poster said. “Anyway, there’s like four musicians in the movie that don’t play mu...
With their fast-paced action and devoted fanbases, there’s a bit of overlap in the Venn diagram between the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Quentin Tarantino movies. But, unsurprisingly, the filmmaker has no interest making the leap to superhero projects, saying in a new interview with the LA Times that he thinks directors in the MCU are just “hired hands” in need of a quick gig. “You have to be a hired hand to do those things,” Tarantino said. “I’m not a hired hand. I’m not looking for a job.” According to what the Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood director writes in his new book Cinema Speculation, today’s filmmakers “can’t wait for the day” that superhero movies are no longer en vogue, likening it to the same reaction some directors in the 1960s had when studio musicals w...
Jennifer Lawrence has revealed that she backed out of the Adam McKay-directed Elizabeth Holmes movie upon watching Amanda Seyfried’s Emmy-winning portrayal of the Theranos fraudster on the Hulu miniseries The Dropout. In an interview with The New York Times for her upcoming drama Causeway, Lawrence praised Seyfried’s performance while also providing an update on her Don’t Look Up collaborator’s long-developing Theranos project Bad Blood. “I thought she was terrific,” she shared. “I was like, ‘Yeah, we don’t need to redo that.’ She did it.” Lawrence’s sentiment was all but confirmed when Seyfried was awarded the 2022 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie. Despite Seyfried’s definitive grasp on the enigmatic startup founder, Lawrence couldn’t help but inhab...
