Tim Heidecker (photo by Heather Kaplan) and Weyes Blood (photo by Philip Cosores) Tim Heidecker has shared a new song called “Nothing”, written and performed with Weyes Blood. It’s off his upcoming guest-heavy album Fear of Death, which comes for us all on September 25th. As you might have guessed from the cheerful album title, “Nothing” answers the question: What matters in life? “Nothing! That’s what it amounts to, they say,” is how the song begins, and it only gets sunnier from there. “Black void waiting down the road for us one day/ We’re all gonna die alone/ There ain’t nobody gonna carry us home.” But in the meantime, we have gorgeous backing vocals from Weyes Blood to keep us company, because while “there ain’t no place where the angels roam,” that doesn’t mean we can’t find he...

Maggie Rogers, Billy Porter, and Leon Bridges at the 2020 Democratic National Convention Michelle Obama’s powerful speech during the first night of the 2020 Democratic National Convention undoubtedly stole the show. However, there were also some bright spots from other supporters of Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, namely musical performances from Maggie Rogers, Leon Bridges, and Billy Porter with Steven Stills. Bridges came first, delivering a soulful rendition of his summer single “Sweeter”. Joined on a sun-set city rooftop by Terrace Martin, Joshua Crumbly, Paul Cornish, and Trevor Lawrence, the soul artist sang out for racial justice with lines like, “My sisters and my brothers sing, sing over me/ And I wish I had another day.” Next up was Rogers, performing on the Main...

The Lowdown: Old Flowers, Courtney Marie Andrews’ fifth full-length LP, is an album about heartbreak and growth. After a nine-year relationship that began at the tender age of nineteen, Andrews realized it was time for her to move on and grow on her own. In her own words, “Anytime I felt like myself, I was alone and wandering, and I knew that was a sign that it was time for change.” This is a tale as old as time for many, when you realize the love you share with someone cannot grow anymore. As Andrews puts it herself in the title track, “You can’t water old flowers,” meaning, you can’t force something to grow that’s already dead. Andrews understood it was time to take the reins of her life herself, as scary as that would be, and she does this with as much grace as possible on her new album...
