Dave Grohl Pens Inspiring Essay About the Power of Concerts

As the global pandemic continues, Dave Grohl has slowly been turning an introspective voice for this time — not with his songs, but instead, with his prose. Aside from his reminiscent Instagram account, Dave’s True Stories, he recently did an essay for The Atlantic. And after sharing his own pandemic playlist the magazine, makes us start to think, “Is he now a regular contributor?” Entitled “The Day the Live Concert Returns,” Grohl pointed out that while he’s one of “the lucky ones” who can stay at home, whip up a great lasagna and watch (or play) livestreams, he longs for the energy of an actual live show. “There is nothing like the energy and atmosphere of live music,” the Foo Fighters frontman wrote in the piece. “It is the most life-affirming experience, to see your favorite perfo...

Dave Grohl Compares Next Foo Fighters LP to David Bowie’s Let’s Dance

Whenever we get to hear Foo Fighters’ upcoming, already finished 10th album, we should expect a sonic departure. In a recent video interview with Los Angeles radio station ALT 98.7, frontman Dave Grohl compared the project to David Bowie’s 1983 dance-rock foray, Let’s Dance, highlighting an emphasis on “groove.” “It’s filled with these anthemic, huge sing-along rock songs,” he said. “It’s weird because it’s almost like a dance record in a weird way — not an EDM, disco, modern dance record … It’s got groove, man. To me, it’s like our David Bowie’s Let’s Dance record. That’s what we wanted to make — we were like, ‘Yeah, let’s make this really up, fun record.” Grohl, who admitted the as-yet-untitled LP does have some “dark corners,” expressed disappointment at having to postpone the...

Foo Fighters Share Skin and Bones Concert Film

As part of their #StayHome series, the Foo Fighters have shared another lengthy live concert film. This time it’s Skin and Bones from their 2006 acoustic performance at Los Angeles’ Pantages Theater in Hollywood. The band is using the reshowing to raise money for the MusiCares COVID-19 relief. The movie was directed by famed photographer/musician Danny Clinch. He also popped on-stage during “Another Round” to play the harmonica. Dave Grohl and company have dug deep into their archives in recent weeks. Yesterday, they shared their legendary set from Lollapalooza 2011 (which has since mysteriously been taken down) and a show from London’s Hyde Park from 2006 that saw Lemmy from Motorhead and Queen’s Brian May (who has had his own problems during quarantine) show up on stage with th...

Foo Fighters’ Rain-Interrupted Lollapalooza 2011 Show to Be Streamed

Following a sharing of their 2006 Hyde Park show from London, Foo Fighters are upping the ante in terms of re-airing their legendary shows. Today (May 7) comes Lollapalooza 2011 in Chicago’s Grant Park. As those were there will tell you, the set was fighting through torrential rain. “I don’t give a fuck if it’s raining tonight!” Dave Grohl said during the set. Jane’s Addiction singer Perry Farrell appeared on stage during set closer “Everlong,” and the band also dedicated their song “Cold Day in the Sun” to Farrell. Grohl performed the band’s staple “Times Like These” in a split format: half as a solo acoustic take, half with the full group. The stream will benefit Crew Nation, Live Nation’s fund to help support live crews around the world who are impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. It star...
