France’s financial authority approves Binance’s registration as digital asset service provider

The Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), France’s authority responsible for regulating the financial market, has granted Binance’s registration to provide crypto-related services in the country. In a Wednesday update, the AMF included Binance France SAS in its list of registered digital asset service providers in France. The registration was a step toward allowing the crypto exchange to provide crypto-related services in France including custodying assets, exchanging digital assets for other tokens or legal tender, and operating a digital asset platform. According to the AMF, registration requires checks to ensure “good repute and competence of the managers and beneficial owners” as well as compliance with regulations on anti-money laundering and combatting the financing of terrorism. Macron or Le Pen: What promise does each presidential candidate hold for crypto?

As France braces for the April 24 presidential election in a runoff, political pundits around the globe are making their bets. Much of the political debate this time revolves around economics, but there is one indispensable part of it that is largely absent from the candidates’ electoral agendas: digital assets. While both have a record of public statements on matters related to crypto, neither Macron nor Le Pen seems to be likely to trigger any significant policy change with regard to the French digital economy.  State of the art Despite the current administration’s notable efforts to embrace the IT industry, France is still, in many ways, not a particularly tech-friendly country. Are NFTs an animal to be regulated? A European approach to decentralization, Part 1

Nonfungible tokens (NFTs) are constantly in the news. NFT platforms are springing up like mushrooms and champions are emerging, such as OpenSea. And, as always, the first blows are expected east of the Atlantic. In this first article devoted to the legal framework of NFTs, we will focus on the application of the digital asset regime and financial law to NFTs in France. In a second article, we will come back to the issues of liability and c...

In a world dominated by men, a select group of women have shattered the ice ceiling. Here we review some daring first ascents by female mountaineers I’ll be honest: it rankles to write the words ‘the first female’ to do such and such. We in the western world have lived under a patriarchy for centuries; one that has undermined and undervalued women at every turn. The select few that have broken through deserve to be hailed as great. Today, we pay homage to 10 daring first ascents by female mountaineers.  first ascents by female mountaineers: Specific pea...
