‘House of the Dragon’ Showrunner Explains Why There Is Melanin In His Version of Westeros

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Ollie Upton / HBO Unlike Game of Thrones, there is a lot more melanin on screen in House of the Dragon, and there is a perfectly good reason for that. During a recent segment on TheGrill and interview series from TheWrap, House of the Dragon co-creator Ryan Condal revealed the decision to make a traditionally white character in the book Black was not done for progressive reasoning. “I think it was not that simple,” Condal said. “I think the reason that it’s been a successful choice … is because it was thought out. It wasn’t just done perfunctorily or wasn’t just done to tick a box or … to be seen as progressive.” But, in the same breath, Condal, who also serves as the showrunner for the GOT prequel series, seemingly contradicted his initial statement. “It...

HBO Defends House of the Dragon Lighting Amid Complaints It’s “Unwatchable”

HBO’s House of the Dragon might serve up some new context for the Game of Thrones universe, but the spinoff/prequel series is still getting fans riled up over one nagging issue: Terrible lighting. But after House of the Dragon Episode 7 prompted fan complaints over the weekend, HBO Max clarified that the ultra-dimmed lighting is an “intentional creative decision.” “I’m gonna need @hbomax to issue a written apology for literally a whole episode of black screen of #HouseOfTheDragon,” one viewer wrote yesterday (October 2nd). “This is ridiculous.” Many other fans echoed those complaints, saying the episode was “unwatchable” and that they could barely understand what was happening. The HBO Max Help Twitter account offered an explanation: “We appreciate you reaching out about a night scene...

‘House of the Dragon’ Crashed HBO Max Streaming During Series Debut

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: NurPhoto / Getty HBO Max is getting a lot of mention these days in the press, and not for the greatest of reasons according to some observations. The streaming service suffered a slight blow once more over the weekend after a new series, House Of The Dragon, caused some crashing for users with a certain peripheral device. The Verge reported on the woes experienced by HBO Max users, pointing to a well-established fact that the app itself is plagued with a variety of issues. House Of The Dragon, a highly anticipated spinoff from the creators of the sprawling Game Of Thrones universe, apparently impacted several people who use the Amazon Fire TV or the Fire Stick device. House of the Dragon Star Paddy Considine on Why It’s Tough to Be King

[Editor’s note: The following contains spoilers for House of the Dragon, Season 1 Episode 1, “The Heirs of the Dragon.”] Game of Thrones was a show that, as its title indicated, had a lot to do with the battle for power. But the king we meet in the House of the Dragon pilot, King Viserys Targaryen, has a complicated relationship with his place as ruler. “There’s a part of Viserys that wishes Rhaenys would have been named and not him,” star Paddy Considine says. “I don’t think it’s a responsibility, I think he was happy to get it, but then there’s a sense of ‘Oh god, why me?’ I think he’s a guy who’s damned, no matter what, by his duty. As he says to Rhaenyra, ‘[The Iron Throne] is the most dangerous seat in the room.’” House of the Dragon might take place within the very well-establi...

25 Best Dragons on Screen, Ranked

You know what a dragon is when you see one. Sometimes, it might be the very last thing you see. Whether they’re laying waste to fictional countrysides, defending the world from cataclysmic events, or just being the best friend of young heroes, dragons have an immense and immediate impact on whatever fantasy world to which they belong — and whether they’re good, evil, or as neutral as Switzerland when it comes to the conflicts of men, they’re always a fascinating addition to any narrative. Our inspiration for looking back over decades of film and television to select the greatest dragons ever seen on screen is, of course, directly tied to the upcoming launch of two new tentpole series: The Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon and Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings ...

House of the Dragon Review: A Beautifully-Made History Lesson From an Ugly Fictional World

The Pitch: Perhaps you are a carbon-based life form with an Internet connection and/or cable TV subscription, and thus are aware of the existence of a little show called Game of Thrones, which for a few years there was pretty dang popular. Well, here’s some more of it! Specifically, here is House of the Dragon, HBO’s prequel/spinoff that does not involve Thrones showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, but does hope to capture the imagination of an ever-fickle viewing public. To that end, we return to King’s Landing 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen (House of the Dragon is very specific on this point), where Daenerys’ ancestors still hold the very familiar-looking Iron Throne. Though we begin with the line of succession in flux, as a ruler without heirs has to make a choice...

The Real-Life Location of Game of Thrones’ Astapor Will Host Moga Festival’s 2022 Edition

Moga Festival is returning to the real-life Astapor, but unlike in Game of Thrones, there’ll likely be no dances with dragons here. Instead, the port city of Morocco’s Essaouira, where scenes from the fictional Game of Thrones location Astapor were filmed, will host more than 50 artists at the SOFITEL Essaouira Mogador Golf & Spa. Taking to the decks in Africa’s Windy City are Polo & Pan, DJ Tennis, Lee Burridge, Alyssa & Gia and many more DJs from the worlds of techno and house music. Peep The Trailer For HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon’

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Ollie Upton / HBO The official trailer for HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon has dropped and we must say, we’re not too impressed (no shots). Yes, it’s cool to see dragons flying around again during a time when light bulbs would be considered sorcery, but the massive amount of blonde people calling shots is lowkey triggering for the culture. Taking place 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the new House of the Dragon series will showcase the rule of the dragon-wielding Targaryens and the fallout that came from Viserys’ line of succession. Related Stories In the trailer we get a glimpse of the power struggle that seems to be engulfing the Targaryens (everyone wants to sit on that Iron Throne) and we even get a peak at the ...

Jon Snow Getting His Own ‘Game Of Thrones’ Sequel Series

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Helen Sloan / Helen Sloan/HBO The final season of Game of Thrones left much to be desired by both fans and critics of the HBO series. Although the prequel series House of The Dragon is on the way with little to no fanfare, HBO might actually redeem themselves with another spinoff series that no one saw coming. Variety is reporting that HBO has greenlit a Jon Snow spinoff series currently dubbed Snow starring Kit Harington who’ll be reprising his role as the King of The North and luckily for everyone, George R.R. Martin himself helped put the story together (thank God!). According to the report Martin met with Harington at his Santa Fe home and together the two men began to flesh out a new story for Jon Snow post-Game of Thrones. Related Stories “Yes, it w...

Kit Harington to Reprise Jon Snow in Game of Thrones Sequel Series

The legend of Jon Snow has yet to be fully told. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Kit Harington has signed on to reprise the character in an upcoming Game of Thrones sequel series. It’s the first known Game of Thrones spin-off series that’ll take place after the events of the original series. In the case of Jon Snow’s character, he was last seen heading North of the Wall after killing Daenerys Targaryen. Needless to say, the news is surprising for a variety of reasons. For one, HBO programming president Casey Bloys previously ruled out a spin-off series featuring the original GoT stars. “Nope, nope, nope. No. Part of it is, I do want this show — this Game of Thrones, [David Benioff and D.B. Weiss]’s show — to be its own thing. I don’t want to take characters from this world that they d...

Peep The Latest Teaser Trailer To ‘Game Of Thrones: House of The Dragon’

HipHopWired Featured Video Source: Ollie Upton / HBO HBO’s Game of Thrones might’ve gone out with a whimper (damn you, all!), but that isn’t keeping them from revisiting the franchise with a new series centered around the events that eventually led to the medieval fantasy epic that captivated the world from 2011 to 2019. HBO released their latest teaser trailer for Game of Thrones: House of The Dragon and whether or not fans will want to take a leap of faith on this restoring their faith in the franchise will henge on the series storyline. Set hundreds of years before the OG Game of Thrones, the series finds King Viserys Targaryen (Paddy Considine) ruling on the Iron Throne while his own blonde haired family scheme on ways to ascend to power themselves. Rather Trumpian if you ask us. Just ...

Composer Ramin Djawadi on Uncharted and Jamming With The National in Westeros

Ramin Djawadi, the Emmy-winning composer behind the scores for Iron Man, Pacific Rim, and Game of Thrones, isn’t sure that he has a signature sound to his works for film, TV, video games, and more. “I don’t know if I can analyze myself and say, oh, I sound like Ramin,” he tells Consequence. “I can definitely think of other composers when I hear their music, but I’m not sure if I can say it about myself. I don’t know. I think it’s up to others to decide if I have that or not.” While he might not be able to hear what makes it distinctive, Djawadi has nonetheless become quite in demand. His latest film, the Tom Holland-starring adaptation of Uncharted, is now available for rental, and on the horizon this year are two massive TV projects: Djawadi will be returning not just to compose the music...
