22 years after The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask was first released on the Nintendo 64, fans are finally getting to relive one of the franchise’s most adored games on the Nintendo Switch. Coming as part of Nintendo’s continued efforts in porting retro titles to its latest handheld console, The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask will be available starting today for those subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack program. The game was actually playable on the Nintendo 3DS as well back in 2015, but it’s the first time it came to a new platform in seven years. As for those unfamiliar with the title, Majora’s Mask first launched back in 2000 for the N64, two years after the famed Ocarina of Time. The story picks up where its prequel left off, with the Japan...
Competitive platforming dodgeball game Knockout City is turning free-to-play a year after its original launch. Available on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and the Nintendo Switch, Knockout City launched last year under EA‘s publishing, and is now on its fifth and final season for the year. As the game’s first year comes to an end, developer Velan Studios is hoping to make a few changes, including taking back publishing duties from EA itself and making the game completely free to play. While there’s no precise date as to when the game will transition into its second year, the company says the shift will take place this spring, so those looking to try out the title will be able to do so completely free of charge once season six begins. Of course, Velan Studios also took time to thank its curren...
Nintendo is finally acquiring long-time collaborator Systems Research and Development Co. (SRD) after four decades of partnership. Regularly partaking in the development and programming process for many of Nintendo’s games and consoles, SRD was founded back in 1979 and began working with the Japanese gaming giant during production for the Famicom/NES. Since then, they’ve aided in the development of almost every Nintendo console and hundreds of video game titles, including nearly all The Legend of Zelda installments as well as the latest hit Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Specific details revolving around the acquisition remain scarce, but the deal is expected to close on April 1. No monetary figure has been revealed either, although we know SRD will become a wholly-owned subsidi...

An Activision Blizzard shareholder is now suing the developer over its recent sale to Microsoft. According to new reports, a shareholder by the name of Kyle Watson alleges that Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard is “unfair for a number of reasons,” one of which includes the argument that the developer’s board is simply hoping to “procure for themselves and senior management… significant and immediate benefits.” He goes on to claim that the deal may constitute a conflict of interest, and that it “is not in the best interest” of the company because it will only “produce lucrative benefits for the officers and directors” at the expense of its shareholders. The suit also highlighted the “golden parachute” that CEO Bobby Kotick has if he were to be fired. So far, Activision Blizzard...

According to a new Bloomberg report, Activision Blizzard Inc. is delaying the annual release of its new Call of Duty game originally set to arrive in 2023. If realized, the move will mark the first time the mainline franchise will have skipped a year since 2005. While many have speculated that the delay has something to do with the recent $69 billion USD Microsoft acquisition, reports indicate that Activision made the decision autonomously, and the reason is due to the uncharacteristically poor performance of Call of Duty: Vanguard and worries of oversaturation as players opt to stick with past versions of the game. Now reportedly set for 2024, Treyarch has an extra year of breathing room to develop the new Call of Duty title. To fill the void, reports confirm a new “free-to-play online” g...

Twitch has launched a new program to help creators derive an income from ad revenue. The initiative — called Ads Incentive Program, or AIP — gives select partners the opportunity to stream for a specific number of hours while simultaneously running ads for a flat monetary rate. Using the Ads Manager dashboard, those included in the program will have the option to accept incentive offers. An example offer, for instance, would be to stream for 40 hours during the month and run two minutes of ads per hour in exchange for a $100 USD payout. Once they accept an offer, users will be accepted to stream according to its conditions, though they can still opt-out at any time and receive a prorated payment for the hours already streamed. At the end of the month, streamers can collect their payment fr...
