‘Heroes of Newerth’ Is Officially Shutting Down Next Summer

After running for more than a decade, Heroes of Newerth is finally shutting down. Originally launched back in 2010, the DOTA-derived MOBA gained immense popularity following a shift to a free-to-play model in July that year, at one point peaking at 150,000 concurrent players during May of 2013. Unfortunately, as the years went by, more and more fans of the genre shifted over to DOTA 2 or League of Legends, and has left HoN to slowly wither away after 12 years. Despite the unfortunate fate of the game, however, the Frostburn Studios team remains positive: “Even though the journey of HoN or Heroes of Newerth has come to an end, we believe that all the valuable memories of our players through all these years will never fade away,” they said. “It’s ...

Kassandra and Eivor Face Off In ‘Assassin’s Creed’s Latest Crossover Event

Ubisoft has just announced a new crossover event for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Valhalla, the first of its kind for the comprehensive franchise. While characters from one installment have made appearances in others before — such as Assassin’s Creed Rogue‘s Shay Cormac meeting Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag‘s Adéwalé — those personalities existed within the same period as each other. In this scenario, we’ll be seeing Kassandra, an ancient Greek warrior, face off against Eivor, a ninth-century Viking raiding England. Just exactly how the storyline will play out remains to be seen, but it’s probably safe to say that the Animus will play some part in it, given how far off in time the two protagonists existed. The crossover will span across two new story arcs, one in...

Top ‘Halo Infinite’ Esports Pro Suspended After Cheating Accusations

A top Halo Infinite player has now been suspended after he was accused of cheating. According to Kotaku, the Sentinels esports team’s player Royal2 recently competed in a Halo Championship Series event but was found to be “geofiltering,” which allowed him to block out high ping servers and by extension force your opponents to play in servers with higher ping for them instead. Throughout the matches, there were also suspicious “lobby connection issues” that ended up delaying the qualifying round for more than four hours. After protests were lobbied by other players who reviewed the various Twitch streams and player ping, the HCS ran an investigation into potential server manipulation and found that “from November 26, 2021, the day before NA Open Series 11-27 on November 27, 2...
