Netflix has hired a former Electronic Arts and Facebook executive to spearhead its new venture into gaming. Mike Verdu — the former Facebook vice president heavily tied to working with developers on Oculus — joins Netflix as vice president of game development. Amongst the many titles worked on, Verdu was also instrumental in the Star Wars and Sims video game franchises for EA. According to a report by Bloomberg, the streaming giant looks to offer gaming “within the next year” on its platform. Verdu has noted that gaming, like other immersive technology, is “an important sort of modality to deepen that fan experience.” Netflix shares rose as much as 3.3 percent to $566 USD after Bloomberg broke the news. Although a bold move, entering the gaming world is showing to be the right directi...
Initially postponed to release this month, Resident Evil Re: Verse sees a sudden delay as Capcom announces a new launch date moved to 2022. Capcom took to Twitter to make the announcement with no definitive date within the next year as it explains the need to “deliver a smooth gameplay experience.” The franchise also adds that current players with a physical version of the game should keep track of the Resident Evil Re: Verse download code or add it to their account in preparation for the long-awaited launch. Fan reactions to the announcement have been largely negative, with many users demanding an Outbreak remake. The prev...

Battlefield 2042 has confirmed that its cross-play feature will be split between console generations. In a new blog post answering some of the most frequently asked questions from fans of the franchise, EA and Dice revealed that cross-play for the game will only function across same-generation consoles, meaning those with the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and PC will be able to match up against each other, while those still on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be restricted to their own cross-play ecosystem. While EA didn’t provide specific reasoning in the article about the split, it’s most likely because previous-gen consoles will have lobbies restricted to 64 players, while the modern generation will all be able to run 128-player matches. However, there will be cross-progression, so yo...

Trading card fanatics know that games like Yu-Gi-Oh! and Pokémon can get intense and apparently so does this store in Japan. The Japanese store had to take trading card battles to the next level by building a full battle cage for duelers to go head to head. The cage appears to take notes from that of an MMA cafe, featuring steal constructs and a padded floor. A monitor is placed outside the cage to showcase what is happening on the table so spectators passing by can check in on the action. The cage also features two gaming chairs and a table. The set-up appears peculiar but the tweet has been seen and retweeted thousands of times. The shop, Book-Off, specializes in used books, selling other used items like trading cards. Check out the trading card battle cage below. 地元のカードショップなんだけど 決勝行くとここ...
A rare PC port of the ultra-iconic Super Mario Bros. 3 has now been rediscovered. Previously thought to be lost to time, the ported demo was created by id Software back in 1990 as a pitch to Nintendo to bring the massively popular franchise onto PC. Ultimately, Nintendo decided not to go ahead with the project, but many claim that the port went on to inspire Commander Keen. While its existence has long been known to video game historians, little has been seen by the public over the last 30 years, except for a video uploaded by the studio’s John Romero himself back in 2015 showcasing some of its levels. Finally, after all these years, the game has resurfaced and has now been donated to the Strong Museum of Play in Rochester, New York. “The individual who donated it was a game dev...
