Amidst news of price increases for the PlayStation 5 due to global inflation, Sony has now released a new model of its flagship gaming console in Australia. The new “CFI-1200” Sony PlayStation 5 being sold in Australia is identical to models currently available in terms of specifications and appearance, but interestingly weighs less. It is unclear just how Sony achieved the weight drop, but the PS5 CFI-1200 Standard version weighs 8.6 pounds (original 9.9 pounds) and the PS5 CFI-1200 Digital Edition weighs 7.5 pounds (original 8.6 pounds). Sony Interactive Entertainment has acquired the Helsinki and Berlin-based Savage Game Studios to adapt PlayStation games for mobile devices. The Savage Game team will join PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, which operates independently from its console development division to focus on “on-the-go gaming.” Together, Sony and Savage Game will be creating experiences for mobile device users “based on new and existing PlayStation IP.” The games will continue to follow Sony’s model of single-player AAA games with an emphasis on narrative. Just yesterday, Microsoft announced that it would be increasing the prices of the Playstation 5 across various regions outside of the U.S. While Sony has announced the price increases in various markets across a number of Asian countries as well as in the U.K., Europe, Canada and Mexico, Microsoft wants to ensure their gamers that the same will not happen for the Xbox X/S Series consoles. Window Central has obtained a statement from a Microsoft spokesperson who has confrimed that Xbox consoles will not be seeing a price change anytime soon. The spokesperson said, “We are constantly evaluating our business to offer our fans great gaming options. After eight months of going dark, the PC servers for Dark Souls III have finally come back online. Server access for the Dark Souls franchise on the platform was first shut down back in January when a Twitch streamer discovered an exploit that allowed hackers to take full control of the player’s computer, giving them access to all its files and even the ability to brick it. The issue was quickly raised with FromSoftware and Bandai Namco, which quickly took the three games offline in order to fix the code. While the team has been releasing updates to improve on the problem since then, it still took eight full months for them to finally get servers back online, at least for Dark Souls III.
