eBay Is Acquiring TCGplayer For Almost $300 Million USD

To further its efforts in expanding its market share in the trading card game industry, eBay has now announced its acquisition of the online marketplace TCGplayer. The latter was founded back in 2008 and has served as a popular online sales platform for some of the world’s most popular trading card games including Pokémon TCG, Magic: The Gathering and Digimon Card Game. eBay’s buyout will come with a $295 million USD price tag, although the website will continue to operate independently following the acquisition, which is now expected to close in Q1 of 2023. Even before absorbing TCGplayer, eBay has already become the largest TCG resale site on the globe, selling a new trading card every two seconds on average in 2021. We are not expecting any material delays for the title bas...

Web3 games incorporate features to drive female participation

Although there is still an apparent lack of women in the Web3 sector, blockchain-based games geared toward women may help drive inclusivity. A recent report from the Entertainment Software Association found that 48% of gamers in the United States identify as female. It has also been noted that nearly half of all gamers in the world are women. The interest that women have taken in the billion-dollar gaming sector is notable. This, combined with the massive growth being projected by the GameFi industry, is a key reason why a number of Web3 games are being built specifically for female users.  Beryl Chavez Li, co-founder of Yield Guild Games — a global play-to-earn gaming community — told Cointelegraph that she believes blockchain-based games like Axie Infinity have started to see an upt...

In a new blog post detailing the game’s development updates, the publisher says that while the title will feature an in-game store and optional season passes, it will remain a full-priced game, meaning you won’t be able to pay your way to victory. The only way you’ll be able to level up your character and your gear is to actually play the game. If you’re hoping to spend money, Blizzard will indeed be offering a premium season pass whenever it launches a new season, which it says should last around two months each. However, the paid track will only give you access to more cosmetic items for your...
