I’m normally somewhat of a last minute shopper, so being so prepared feels a little alien to me. But this year, when we’re all feeling the pinch, it suddenly clicked that it would be worth starting my search early to take advantage of the discounts. Especially on items I knew I was going to be buying in less than a month’s time anyway. With so many amazing Black Friday deals across the high street, beauty and, well, just about every other brand you could think of, there’s a lot to get through to find the perfect gifts over just one weekend. So, to help out, I’ve curated a list below of some of the very best Christmas gift ideas I’ve come across while browsing the sales this year. In my opinion, the best presents to receive are things you w...
Over the past few years, all retailers have faced a huge strain and pressure due to the pandemic, and small brands have certainly felt the brunt of the restrictions, with endless challenges with manufacturing and delivery. However, the silver lining has been the outpouring of support for these small but mighty brands. Ever since the first lockdown back in March 2020, there has been a huge push across all sectors for consumers to buy local and buy small and use our spending power to support independent, small businesses. This doesn’t just apply to where we buy our bananas and our morning coffee but is something many of us will be considering when embarking on our Christmas shopping this year. Cathleen Nicol, founder of handbag brand C.Nicol, said last year to Who What Wear, “If...

The holidays are just around the corner, and I couldn’t be more delighted. It feels like the first “normal” festive season in years, and I think this one is going to be special. And whilst I’m a firm avoider of throw-away, novelty presents, the opportunity for forever pieces is always one that excites me. A timeless handbag, a leather wallet and cashmere gloves are pieces made to last, and therefore make top of my wish list, and what I love to purchase for others. For a long time, Mulberry has been the go-to for these very special pieces. The British luxury lifestyle brand is so synonymous with classic accessories that when you see someone sporting a Mulberry handbag, scarf or purse and ask them about it, they’ll often tell you it was originally the...

We don’t want to alarm you, but it’s only a matter of weeks until Christmas rolls around. Of course, you’ve no doubt been preparing for this since August, right? (Well no, actually, we haven’t either.) Given the number of parties, dinners and Christmas ads on TV, it’s officially the start of the festive season, and we’re ready to welcome it with open arms. The colder days and darker nights have been the excuses we needed to slip into cosy mohair knits and knee-high boots, and thanks to the recent drop of autumn and winter collections, we’ve been treated to a particularly stylish season thus far. But when it comes to preparing for the big day, there’s more than just our current wardrobes to think about. So if you’re frantically searching...
I’m by no means a TikTok expert, but there are a few things I’ve learnt whilst using the platform over the past year or so. 1) Avid TikTok users have pretty expensive taste. They know their brands and take investment purchases seriously, aspiring to own the latest must-have bag or spending hours tracking down the current cult trainer (most likely on Laced, where it’s selling for a premium). 2) They lean heavily into nostalgia, delighting in the clothes and accessories that make most 30-somethings such as me shudder when we remember how we wore them (probably less stylishly) the first time around. And 3) they know how to have fun. From adorning their hair with rhinestones to singing along in their karaoke microphones, TikTok presents its users with an escape from real...
