Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak are choosing to sit out this year’s Grammy Awards. In a statement to Billboard on Thursday (Oct. 13), Mars confirmed that the duo will not submit the acclaimed debut by their Silk Sonic duo, An Evening With Silk Sonic, for Grammy consideration. “Andy and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to first single ‘Leave The Door Open.’ Everything else t just icing on the cake,” Mars said of the retro soul track that won four Grammy awards in April, including song of the year, record of the year, best R&B song and best R&B performance; the An Evening album was released in Nov. 2021, which would have made it eligible for nominations at the 2023 ceremony. “We thank the Grammys for allowing us to perform on their platfor...
Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)” is one of the biggest hits of the summer. It holds at No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100, just behind monster hits by Lizzo and Harry Styles. Fans want to know if there’s any way it could get some attention when the nominations for the 65th Annual Grammy Awards are announced on Nov. 15. In addition to being a major hit, “Running Up That Hill” is the kind of record that Grammy voters often respond to – both classy and accessible. Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) broke streaming records and gifted us with the instant classic “All Too Well (10-Minute Version),” but for all of its updates, it wasn’t clear if the re-recorded album would be eligible for a Grammy. However, Billboard confirms that it does meet the Recording Academy’s nomination requirements. According to the Academy’s “rules and guidelines” handbook, “Updated, revised or expanded versions of previously submitted albums will not be eligible” for Grammy Awards. However, the organization told Billboard that Red (Taylor’s Version) will be eligible for consideration “as it is a new recording.” This means that if Swift’s re-recorded LP is nominated for, say, Album of the Year (as the original was back in 2012), it would be her fift...

There has been some uncertainty about whether Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) will be eligible for the 65th annual Grammy Awards. The album, if eligible, would be a strong contender for nominations for both album of the year and best country album. Explore Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news The album contains new recordings of the 16 songs that first appeared on the standard edition of Swift’s 2002 album Red, which was nominated in both of those categories nine years ago. The album also contains new recordings of 14 more songs that didn’t appear on the standard edition of the original album. The mystery deepened Thursday when the Academy posted its “rules and guidelines” handbook online. Under general eligibility guidelines for albums,...
The Recording Academy released more details about its fee structure for “excess entries” in a memo to all voting members on Friday (July 1). As previously announced, all professional and voting members of the academy will be allowed to make five courtesy entries every year as a benefit of membership. But members will have to pay a fee for each entry beyond the five allowed unless they are able to obtain a waiver. In an effort to get voters to vote promptly — rather than wait until just before the voting period closes, as people tend to do — the academy has adopted a multi-tier pricing strategy. “Early bird pricing” (July 18 – July 31) is $40 per entry (after the five courtesy entries). “Standard pricing” (Aug. 1 – Aug. 21) is $75 per entry (after the five courtesy entries). “Final deadline...
Here we go again! With this week’s confirmation that Beyoncé will release a new album, Renaissance, on July 29, it appears very likely that Beyoncé and Adele are headed for a Grammy rematch. At the 59th annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 12, 2017, the two singers went head-to-head in four categories. Adele won all four of these contests. The British superstar’s blockbuster hit “Hello” beat Beyoncé’s socially conscious “Formation” for record and song of the year. “Hello” also topped “Hold Up,” the third single from Beyoncé’s Lemonade album, for best pop solo performance. Finally, 25 bested Lemonade for album of the year. With his new album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers receiving rave reviews, Kendrick Lamar could be in for a big night when the 65th annual Grammy Awards are presented early next year (most likely in January at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles). Lamar has amassed 14 Grammys, but the top prize, album of the year, has eluded him. That may well change next year. Also, Lamar’s buzzy video for “The Heart Part 5,” in which his face morphs into the faces of such Black celebrities as O.J. Simpson, Kanye West and Will Smith, could take best music video. The visual has the “stop what you’re doing and watch this now” quality of Childish Gambino’s “This Is America,” which won in that category in 2019. Justin Bieber was shut out at the 2022 Grammys, despite eight nominations – twice as many as he’d ever had in any one year. He’s not the first artist to go 0-for-8 at the Grammys. Three other superstars — Rihanna, Kanye West and Jay-Z — have experienced the same fate in recent years. Explore See latest videos, charts and news See latest videos, charts and news When the 1965 awards were announced in March 1966, Paul McCartney went 0-for-9, which remains the biggest shutout in Grammy history. But that was five years before the Grammys became a live telecast, so few even noticed. (The Grammys really only became the Grammys as we know them when they became a live telecast in 1971.) The list of people who have been shut out in any given year (despite receiving seven or more nominations) include...
Over the weekend, the 64th annual Grammy Awards honored music’s best-in-class across over 80 unique categories. Electronic music was well represented, with South Africa’s Black Coffee and Australian electronic outfit RÜFÜS DU SOL taking home the genre’s top honors. The former’s stunning Subconsciously album took home the gilded gramophone in the competitive Best Dance/Electronic Music Album category, which also included ILLENIUM, Marshmello, Ten City, Sylvan Esso, and Major Lazer. “I want to thank God for the gift of music and being able to share it with the world and heal some souls,” Coffee said in his acceptance speech. He additionally extended his appreciation to his fellow collaborators, including David Guetta, for putting their trust in his a...
Steven Tyler’s Grammy Awards viewing party returned on Sunday after the annual event took a hiatus in 2021 due to the pandemic. Set for dinner and a show at the Hollywood Palladium, the event historically benefits Tyler’s charity organization Janie’s Fund, a philanthropic initiative to raise awareness for young girls who have survived abuse and neglect. In partnership with nonprofit Youth Villages, the name of the fund is inspired by Aerosmith’s 1989 hit “Janie’s Got a Gun,” which tells the story of a young girl who was a victim of domestic abuse. At the start of the evening, the Aerosmith frontman toasted the crowd, kicking off the Grammy’s livestream. Following the three-course dinner and awards telecast, the rockstar made his first public performance in two years, performing a piano ren...
