Black Pumas Share Thrilling Performance of ‘Colors’ at Grammys

You have to be pretty damn good to have a deluxe album nominated for a Grammy award. Black Pumas proved tonight that they are with a stellar performance of their Grammy-nominated track “Colors” at Sunday’s ceremony. During the performance, the psychedelic soul duo of Eric Burton and Adrian Quesada lit up the stage with a refreshing take on their single, which propelled them from late 2019 onward. Between some bad-ass guitar wailing and some soulful backing vocals, the high-energy performance lit up the show following Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and HAIM. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,”width”:”480″,”height”:...

Watch Billie Eilish and Finneas Perform ‘Everything I Wanted’ at the Grammys

Billie Eilish’s success at the Grammys last year was something to remember, so it’s only fair that her Sunday night performance at this year’s awards kept us just as much on our toes. Eilish, alongside brother Finneas, shared an enchanting performance of her Grammy-nominated track “Everything I Wanted” while standing on a sports car on a dim-lit stage. Her performance, which followed an opening by Harry Styles, During the theatrical showing, the 18-year-old pop icon shined in a sequin shirt as her voice lit up the rest of the room. Finneas hung back on a keyboard in the smokey room as Eilish held things down vocally. <!– // Brid Player Singles. var _bp = _bp||[]; _bp.push({ “div”: “Brid_10143537”, “obj”: {“id”:”25115″,...

Fito Paez, Grupo Niche, Natalia Lafourcade Win Grammys Latin Categories

“I was very nervous,” Páez told Billboard over the phone minutes later. “There’s different music ‘schools’ in the world. I grew up with the American school,” added Páez, one of the great pioneers of melodic Argentine rock that bears British and American influences. “So to have that school give you a pat on the back is a great honor. A great honor that exceeds the award itself. It’s as if the entire country had enveloped me in its arms.” For Grupo Niche, perhaps Colombia’s most emblematic and symbolic salsa band, the win was fraught with emotion. The group, founded in Cali 40 years ago, won in the best tropical album category for 40, an album that pays homage both to its anniversary and to its late founder, Jairo Varela, who died in 2012. “It’s the first album we recorded that doesn’t inclu...

How Cardi B Feels About the Grammys: ‘Congratulate the Small Black Artists’

In a lengthy note further explaining her thoughts, she clarified, “I do feel that there were some albums and songs that should have been considered for nominations. Maybe next year they will get it right.” “However let’s not forget the Grammy’s nominated soo many independent black artists this year that don’t get exposure by blogs, magazines and other award shows like Chika, D Smoke, Royce 5’9′, Freddie Gibbs, Jay Electronica, Kaytranada, Brittany Howard, Mykal Kilgore, Ledisi, Jean & Marcus Baylor, Luke James, Gregory Porter, Giveon, Ant Clemons, Robert Glasper, Free Nationals & Thundercat and so much more,” Cardi noted. She said the trio have been quarantining in the same house for the past week and have been tested each day. “You know, we’ve only gotten to be together in the same room once,” she pointed out of their experience creating new music together during a pandemic. “And so, this is really awesome to get to be together with them again.” See the interview clip with Winston on ET, and watch the 2021 Grammy Awards on Sunday (March 14) at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on C...

It would be great if MusiCares opened its vaults again so that ordinary music fans for whom a $1,000 ticket is simply out of reach can see some of these classic performance clips. This year, COVID-19 prohibited people gathering in person so Friday night (March 12), MusiCares’ parent, the Recording Academy, pivoted to a 90-minute virtual celebration dubbed Music on a Mission. Choreographer Fatima Robinson on ‘Coming 2 America’ and Surprises to Expect at the Grammys

Robinson’s particularly busy March continues with this Sunday’s Grammy Awards, for which she is a creative producer; after that, she’s got Space Jam 2 (for which she made a dance number for star Don Cheadle) and Queens, an ABC pilot starring Brandy and Eve. While taking a breath at her Ojai, Calif. home, she spoke to Billboard about stepping into some big shoes as C2A’s choreographer — and revealed some surprises in store at the Grammys. Choreography was a major part of the original Coming to America — and it was created by none other than Paula Abdul. What impact did it have on you?I mean, it’s so incredible what she created — the dance stands up today. So it was a little daunting to think I had to go up against that. ...
