Despite 2020 being a pretty bad year, Haim did alright. Women in Music Pt. III was a success, spawning a number of great songs and several Grammy nominations, including for Album of the Year, the first time an all-female rock group got tapped for the nod. Now, the Haim sisters are back with an expanded version of that album and a little help from their close pals. Taylor Swift and Thundercat appear on new versions of “Gasoline” and “3 AM” respectively. Listen to Haim’s remix of “Gasoline” with Swift below. Haim’s “The Steps” was named one of our best songs of 2020. You can read our July 2020 cover story on them ...
Hanukkah ends tonight and the Haim sisters decided to take the holiday out in style. The trio, with an assist by Thundercat on bass and some new lyrics from playwright Jeremy O. Harris (Slave Play), released their own version of Waitresses’ 1981 tune “Christmas Wrapping” with the appropriately titled “Christmas Wrapping 2020 (All I Want for Christmas Is a Vaccine),” as their first holiday song. The song sums up 2020 pretty succinctly, lamenting the lack of sex, their skin breaking out, subpar latkes, spending too much time on TikTok, drinking and the Cuisinart not working. However, it did try to be hopeful in a small way by cheering Trump’s removal from office, Tom Hanks being saved from COVID and Zendaya winning an Emmy. Watch the clip below. Yesterday, more than 40 artists joined forces for CatSong Festival — a virtual tribute to Yusuf/Cat Stevens in honor of the 50th anniversary of his 1970 albums Tea for the Tillerman and Mona Bone Jakon. During the nearly two-and-a-half-hour long stream, Haim performed a cover of “Hard Headed Woman” off Tea for the Tillerman. Danielle Haim took the reins for the stripped down rendition, singing and playing guitar, while Este and Alana contributed backup vocals. Elsewhere, Jack Johnson covered “Where Do The Children Play,” Brandon Boyd of Incubus performed “Wild World,” and Dave Matthews played “Father & Son.” “It’s great to see and hear these covers of my songs given new life,” Yusuf said in a statement ahead of the tribute. “There’s no better hon...

Thank you.” Other performers include Jack Johnson, Feist, Passenger, Bonnie “Prince” Billy, Sad13, Imelda May and more. The virtual festival will broadcast live on YouTube on Dec. 5 at 12pm PS/3pm EST/8pm GMT, which you can watch here. Despite the milestone, Yusuf had to cancel touring plans due to the pandemic....
Haim have been known to churn out some great pop-rock music, as evidenced via their latest LP, Women in Music Pt. III. But when they were asked to contribute a song to the children’s movie The Croods: A New Age, Haim moved into a harder direction. Working with producer/co-writer and Guns N’ Roses superfan Ariel Rechtshaid, they were able to experiment with their sound and turn around a song inspired by the legendary rockers. [embedded content] “[Ariel’s] obsessed with them – he went and saw them on their most recent tour a bunch of times,” Danielle Haim told Rolling Stone. “And so I figured that that’s what we were looking for. We were like, ‘Let’s get Ariel.’ But I’d never tried to make music like that before, so it was fully like a crazy experiment.” Not only was this a fun track fo...
Following the speedy confirmation of Justice Amy Comey Barrett and fear of losing health care rights, Michael Stipe, Billie Eilish, Foo Fighters and other musicians have signed onto a new Planned Parenthood campaign to urge people to vote. Entitled “We Need Every Voice,” the full-page ad will appear in six newspapers at six key states: Arizona Republic, Detroit Free Press, Tampa Bay Times, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, Austin American Statesman, and Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “Everything is on the line with this election,” Alexis McGill Johnson, President, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, said in a statement. “Voters across the country understand that we need leaders who will fight to protect our rights and access to health care in every branch of government – that’s why tens of millions of Ame...
Haim were in full Halloween mode for their performance of “3 AM” on Thursday night’s edition of Late Night With Seth Meyers. Dressed in poufy wedding gowns (complete with the veils) and Alana sporting some blood on the sides of her mouth, the Haim sisters brought some funk to the late-night show. But what you may not have expected was who they brought as a surprise guest. Before the band played, someone’s phone rings showing that “Emotional Vampire” called, and a clip of Robert Pattinson leaving her a video message appeared. If you thought their performance in The Forum parking lot was good, watch their theatrical version “3 AM” below. Haim keep the deli theme going with their new visual for “Man From the Magazine.” Directed by Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood director and the band’s frequent collaborator Paul Thomas Anderson, Danielle Haim trades in her guitar for an apron and position at the behind the deli counter (at the band’s favorite deli Canter’s) as she sings. [embedded content] “This video was filmed the day we shot the cover for WIMPIII at Canter’s Deli in Hollywood,” the band said in a statement, “Paul came up with the idea after hearing the whole record and we both felt strongly that this song in particular needed a visual, so Danielle put on a mic and sang it live in the middle of the deli.” Haim explained the birth of the song on Instagram: “This song had been in the works for a while. it started out ...
After months of socially distant performances from their homes, Haim brought some live music to The Forum in Los Angeles — or close to it. Performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night (Sept. 29), Haim took fans to the parking lot of the LA venue. Set up in a line, Danielle swapped her guitar for a place at the drumkit and led the band in a live rendition of “Gasoline.” Accompanied by a piano player, the Haim sisters brought us a performance that we’ve been waiting for from the band. On the heels of their latest album’s release, they did get together to perform “Gasoline” altogether. They also got together to celebrate dropping Women in Music Pt. III with a livestream from a deli — the band’s initial live tour plan prior to the pandemic. The group also filmed their video for “Don’t Wanna” at ...
California pop-rock band HAIM have tapped into a danceable reservoir of talent for their latest remix EP. Their newest compilation features five new remixes and a video edit of their track “Summer Girl” from their third studio album, Women in Music Pt. III. Amber Mark‘s remix maintains much of the soft yet sweet vocals from the original while slowly adding more addicting percussion and vocals. This builds into an epic conclusion of feel-good energy that’s impossible to resist dancing along to. Lauren Auder takes a different approach on their addition to the compilation by providing their own vocals to give the song a bittersweet atmosphere. Taking a more experimental route to the tune is “Jack and Henry’s Yellow Smiley Remix” featu...
Following the release of their Women in Music Pt. III in June, Haim just dropped a remix bundle called The Summer Girl Remixes Volume 1. The new set includes five versions of the track, featuring Lauren Auder, mmph, Amber Mark, Solomonophonic as well as Jack and Henry. With the addition of horn sections and chopped-up electronic distortions, each take is sonically different from the other. And considering all the choreography that the Haim sisters have shared on social media during quarantine, this is perfect to add to your next Haim-fueled dance party. While the pandemic stopped all tour plans, Haim celebrated the release of their latest album with a live-streamed deli show. They also released “I Know Alone,” “Don’t Wanna” and “Gasoline” prior to Women in Music Pt. III’s release...
