Haim Have Been Through It

I’ve smelled a lot of things at gigs before but fresh-cut pastrami was a new one. Back in March, Haim performed what would be one of their last shows of the year to a crowd drunk on coleslaw and corned beef on rye. Squeezed between the back tables and bathroom of Sarge’s Deli in New York City, they covered Britney Spears’ “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman,” between their own hits like “Summer Girl” and “The Wire” to a bustling crowd of guests — fans, media, record label employees and Glee’s Darren Criss. The trio, who had their first musical performance as kids at Canter’s Deli in Los Angeles’ Fairfax neighborhood, paid homage to their beginnings with a five-city deli tour ahead of their striking, self-aware third album Women in Music Pt. III.  At Sarge’s, Este Haim recalled her love f...

Haim Chase Each Other Around the Forum Parking Lot in ‘Don’t Wanna’ Video

This past Friday, Haim released their outstanding new album Women in Music Pt. III. To celebrate, the sisters performed a set at Los Angeles’ Canter’s Deli where they played a bunch of new songs from the collection. Today (not actually today, but you know), the sisters shared a video for their recent single, “Don’t Wanna” where they took a trip down La Cienega (or La Brea depending on your route of choice) to the Forum in Inglewood for it. In the clip, Haim start to walk together in the arena’s empty parking lot at sunset, before they all end up chasing each other in what appears to be a competition that only siblings can take part in/understand its competitive nature. Haim’s album was supposed to be released in April before the coronavirus pandemic struck. They also just started a sm...

Haim Celebrate Women in Music Pt III Release in Deli Show Livestream

At the very beginning of Haim’s Women in Music Pt. III launch, they were performing intimate shows at delis…or at least started to. That was in part to pay ode to the album’s cover, which was shot by Paul Thomas Anderson at Canter’s Deli in Los Angeles. COVID-19 changed those plans, but on the day the sisters’ album was released, they ended up performing a livestream at Canter’s. The show took place in the deli’s main room on Friday afternoon and saw Haim perform a number of tunes off the album in the 30-minute set, including “The Steps,” which was no. 8 on our list of the Best Songs of 2020 (So Far). The stream was also a fundraiser for the Bail Project, which is “a national nonprofit organization designed to combat mass incarceration by disrupting the money bail system one...

Haim Share New Song ‘Gasoline’

We’re a little over a week away from Haim’s Women in Music Pt. III is finally released. As what’s likely to be a final teaser, the sisters shared a version of “Gasoline” from it, which was performed at home. “miss playing for you guys. here’s a new song ‘gasoline’,” the caption for the clip read. The song is the fifth track on Women in Music Pt. III. It follows the sisters’ performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk series earlier in the week. Recently, Haim performed on the Late Late Show With James Corden. So far, they’ve released “Don’t Wanna,” “I Know Alone” “Summer Girl,” “Hallelujah” and “The Steps” from the album. Before the pandemic canceled everything, Haim was on a promo tour that took place at delis in select cities. Check it ...

The 50 Best Songs of 2020 (So Far)

Great songs have a freedom that albums don’t because great songs only have to pull off their trick once. It’s like how a great SNL sketch can be a terrible movie or why Vine was an underrated miracle of online comedy. Sometimes an artist can get a lot more done in miniature. When people say that no one listens to albums anymore, they’re obviously mistaken, but they mean that no one listens to certain kinds of albums anymore. They won’t wait to get to the good part, and an industry that’s been padding out their wares for decades has had to adapt to a new reality where the customer is always dope. From Hailey Whitters to Hayley Williams, from King Von to Christine and the Queens, here’s a supercut of just the good parts: The songs that have challenged and delighted and comforted us through a...

HAIM Discuss Coping With ‘Quar,’ Perform ‘Don’t Wanna’ on Late Late Show

Only hours after they dropped the latest offering from their upcoming album, Women in Music Pt. III, HAIM debuted  “Don’t Wanna” on The Late Late Show with James Corden on Thursday night (May 21). Set up at their homes, they did a somewhat stripped down version of “Don’t Wanna.” As the song progresses, you can tell that this will be a good live song — whenever that may be. And no at-home Haim performance would be complete without their light show at the end. While Danielle, Este and Alana have been sharing great dance videos on social media, the three have been quarantining in their own homes. So when Corden asked the band who has been having the most difficult time with social distancing, Alana and Danielle quickly pointed to Este, who openly admitted that she’s “really bad...

HAIM Share ‘Don’t Wanna’ From Upcoming Album

HAIM have shared “Don’t Wanna” from their upcoming album Women in Music Pt. III. The song was produced by Danielle Haim, Rostam and Ariel Rechtshaid. The Haim sisters co-wrote the song with Rostam as well. “This song rolled off the tongue,” the band said of the song in a statement, “it’s sexy, flirty and hopeful.” Previously, the group shared “I Know Alone” “Summer Girl,” “Hallelujah” and “The Steps” from the album. Before the pandemic canceled everything, HAIM was on a promo tour that took place at delis in select cities. The album was postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak in March but it is scheduled to be released on June 26 via Columbia Records. HAIM will perform the new song on The Late Late Show With James Corden tonight (May 21). List...
