If you’ve landed here, you’re most likely considering some short, layered hairstyles for your next salon visit. Or if you have short hair already, you might be looking for ways you can change up your look day to day. The good news is that there are so many cool short hairstyles to choose from, and the fashion set has been delivering endless short hairstyle ideas that we are desperate to take to the salon this season. You might have been led to believe that short hair means committing to one look. But that’s simply not the case. Bob haircuts look incredible worn straight and sleek or with cool-girl waves, and hair accessories can totally transform short hair by giving it an effortless update—ideal if you’re looking for low maintenance hair. Equally, braids ...
As a beauty editor— and someone who has always had long hair—I often find myself lacking hair inspiration. It seems silly given my occupation, and that I speak to top hairstylists and have tried several hairstyling tools over the years. The thing is, I’m guilty of wearing my hair down most days, and occasionally tonging my hair with loose curls if I’m heading somewhere special, or want to mix it up. But realistically, I’ll probably spend 5-10 minutes max on my hair in the mornings most days, and I like no-fuss hairstyles that get me out of the door on time. I was feeling it a bit of a hair rut, so I wanted to seek some easy hairstyles for long hair that I can turn to on the days when I want to look more pulled together, without spending 40 minutes curl...
“Wow. What the Corrale lacks in speed, it absolutely makes up for in precision and execution. Just one steady glide was all it needed to straighten my hair, which is unheard of for me. The plates do make a scratching noise as you straighten, but I later learned this is due to the flexing technology that shapes to gather the hair. Instantly, I noticed my hair didn’t have its usual fly-aways or frizz; it was glossy, sleek, shiny and soft to the touch. Even my husband, who once didn’t clock when I had my nipple-grazing tresses cut above my shoulder, commented on how ‘nice’ it was looking. That’s something, right? “Knowing how impressed I was, my mum spoilt me by buying me a set for Christmas. I’ve used them every second day since, and I fee...
Trends come and go, but one thing that is for sure is that the fashion and beauty industries will forever look back to past decades for inspiration. Seventies and nineties hairstyles made a huge comeback recently, with curtain bangs and bouncy ’90s supermodel blowouts becoming more and more popular. However, when you think of trending hairstyles, the ’80s might not be the first decade that springs to mind. After all, it created a bad rap for perms, and it’s not a decade that the fashion and beauty industry typically looks back on fondly. Some trends like bold blusher and giant shoulder-pads are unlikely to hit the mainstream as they once did. However, the ’80s were a pioneering decade for haircuts and hairstyles. It is often know as the era for big hair, and wh...
In my humble opinion, mid-length hair is the most versatile hair length. You can do absolutely any style with no strands left behind, unless of course you are leaving out tendrils on purpose. I also happen to think that thick hair is the most versatile texture— but this is without doubt with the bias of having naturally super-thick hair myself. So, the combo of both is kind of spectacular in my eyes. Do not get me wrong, I have spent years cursing the fact that my hair has broken multiple stylists’ combs and takes a long time to straighten, but now with acceptance I know it also means that there aren’t many problems with any style I attempt. I do find that I get stuck in a real rut when thinking of styles though. On lazy weeks I just rotate two; down and un-s...
What are common misconceptions about curly and Afro hair? Lesley Buckle: I get asked a lot if I just wake up with my hair the way it is, and often, there’s a lot more work involved. But for those who have curly hair, I’d say a common misconception is that there’s one product that will solve any hair woes or you can copy someone else’s hair routine and expect the same results. Even with the same hair type, every head of curls behaves so differently. Lots of factors like hair thickness, density, length, porosity and your environment, etc., all have a role to play besides curl texture, so figuring curls out can take a lot of experimentation. What are your top tips for caring for curly and Afro hair? LB: I don’t want to state the obvious, but being cautious w...
In my job as a beauty editor, I speak to hairstylists on the daily to find out what hair trends are big news. And hairdressers and salons always deliver the best insights, whether it be autumn/winter hair colour trends that we need to know about or the trending haircuts the the fashion set is booking in for. While we might see hair trends crop up on social channels like Instagram and TikTok, they’re not always reflective of the hairstyles that are really trending. Busy salons, however, see first-hand the haircuts and colours that people are booking in for. What’s more, choosing a new haircut can be an overwhelming task. You might want something low-maintenance, or maybe you’re looking for some short-haircut inspiration. So I asked some of the...
If you’re thinking of changing your hair and going for the chop, you might be considering a number of haircuts. We’re here to help you find some inspiration, and where better to start than the bob? If you haven’t already succumbed to this shorter style in the last few years, you’re a stronger person than we are— at least half of the Who What Wear UK team had gone for the snip. Long bobs and blunt bobs have all had their moments but the most recent cool-girl hair trend? The French bob. If you’re after something drastically different but still guaranteed to be chic, this is the style for you. But what defines a French bob, we hear you ask? Well, the original is sharply cut somewhere between the cheekbone and the chin—think Amélie— but more modern takes can fall any...

At Who What Wear, we believe that age is just a number. While there might be a societal rule book for choosing an “age-appropriate” hairstyle as you move from decade to decade, we’re here to tell you that you can wear your hair however you damn want. You might have tried a number of different hairstyles throughout the years, and one of the positives of that is that you know what suits your look, your style and your personality the best. Many stylish women have an iconic hairstyle that they wear throughout their whole lives. Take Anna Wintour and her bob haircut, which she has made her signature. Others like Victoria Beckham have tried every haircut and hairstyle under the sun, from a short haircut to medium and longer styles. And that’s the fun of changing up your h...
