Anthrax bassist Frank Bello has announced his debut solo EP, Then I’m Gone, arriving November 4th. The release is a personal one for Bello, who played every instrument (except drums) on the EP’s three core tracks: “Then I’m Gone,” “It Won’t Be Long,” and “See Me Now.” He also scored and played additional narrative pieces that see Bello reading excerpts from his 2021 autobiography, Fathers, Brothers, and Sons: Surviving Anguish, Abandonment, and Anthrax. “I revisited some really dark times in my life when I was writing my book, and writing these songs was the result of reliving them,” said Bello via a press release. “Music has always been a great outlet for me as a coping mechanism. The Halestorm singer-guitarist wrote on Instagram, “I’m unapologetically bisexual,” after mentioning that she hid her “bisexuality for a long time.” While it’s not the first time that Lzzy has spoken about being bisexual, her new social post served as a direct message to her fans about embracing their sexuality. Ozzy Osbourne takes a licking but keeps on ticking. The Prince of Darkness is “doing well and on the road to recovery” following major surgery, reports his wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne. Last week, Sharon revealed that Ozzy was set to undergo a “very major operation” on Monday (June 13th) that was “really going to determine the rest of his life.” It is assumed that the surgery was related to correcting structural damage that the metal icon had suffered in a fall in early 2019. At the time, Ozzy dislodged metal rods and pins that were placed in his body after a 2003 ATV accident. The group has offered up the vintage-looking video for the song “Too Long.” Heavy Consequence readers might be familiar with Gagneux from his work in Zeal & Ardor, who we’ve championed time and again on the site. 9-Year-Old Girl Masters Tool’s Complex 15-Minute Song “7empest” on Guitar: Watch
Tool’s complex 15-minute opus “7empest” is a difficult cover for anyone to attempt. Don’t tell that to 9-year-old guitar shredder Maya Neelakantan. In the YouTube clip, Neelakantan puts on a Nandi Bushell-esque display of talent as she expertly darts around the fretboard. Adam Jones wrote some deft guitar parts for the Fear Inoculum track, and it appears he has a worthy understudy in Neelakantan, if ever needed. She even emulates his wah pedal footwork. As she explains in the introduction to the video, Maya was inspired to play her “most favorite song” after receiving a brand new Gibson Les Paul guitar for her ninth birthday last month. Ukrainian metal band Jinjer have been granted permission to leave by the nation’s Ministry of Culture to embark on a tour to help raise funds and awareness for their war-torn country. Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Jinjer were forced to drop off their support stint on Slipknot’s US “Knotfest Roadshow” tour. They instead helped raise funds for Ukraine via merch sales to support resistance efforts and refugee relief. The band hopes to continue raising awareness and money while traveling abroad.
