Deftones’ Stephen Carpenter Is “Not Ready to Leave the Country Yet,” Will Sit Out European Tour

Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter has elected to sit out the band’s upcoming UK and European tour dates, saying he’s “not ready” to leave the United States yet. Carpenter posted a video statement on Deftones’ Twitter, explaining that he made his decision based on “everything going on in the world.” It’s worth noting that Carpenter expressed staunch anti-vax sentiments in the past, and would likely have a difficult time traversing European countries is he’s indeed unvaccinated against COVID-19. Carpenter’s full video statement reads as follows: “Hey, everyone, it’s Steph. As much as I would love to be on the road with my brothers right now, playing for all of our incredible international fans, I have chosen to remain playing domestically for now. With everything going on in the world, I’...

Municipal Waste Unveil New Song “High Speed Steel”: Stream

Municipal Waste are set to unleash their new album Electrified Brain on July 1st, and now they’ve shared the album’s second single, “High Speed Steel.” With a song title that could’ve been pulled from the sleeve of a classic ’80s metal LP, “High Speed Steel” lives up to is name. Bulldozing riffs and high octane leads are the name of the game as Municipal Waste proudly pay homage to the thrash greats that came before them. “’High Speed Steel’ is our ode to an era when heavy metal was transitioning into a faster form,” commented guitarist Ryan Waste. “We pushed the limits of our sound to channel that classic dynamic and keep the intensity high. It’s about overcoming the pressure and slicing down the odds when everything is stacked against you.” Advertisement Related Video Electrified Brain&n...

Deftones Bring on the Blood Moon with Rooftop Performance in NYC: Recap, Photos + Video

Setting the Stage: After twice postponing their highly anticipated tour due to the pandemic, Deftones have finally hit the road again. Most of the fans in attendance at the Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City had been holding onto their tickets for two years, and they were rewarded with a beautiful night of perfect weather on Sunday (May 15th). Not to mention, a full moon hung over the evening’s festivities, with a sensational real-life backdrop that included the Empire State Building to the left and the Brooklyn Bridge to the right. In fact, later on that night, a “blood moon” would be visible due to a total lunar eclipse. If that weren’t enough, French metal masters Gojira were providing direct support, with Australian electronic duo VOWWS opening the evening. Taking the Stage: With...

Another Longtime Member Leaves As I Lay Dying

As I Lay Dying have said goodbye to another longtime member following their 2018 re-formation after frontman Tim Lambesis’ prison stint. Bassist and clean vocalist Josh Gilbert has left the veteran metalcore band, following the footsteps of guitarist Nick Hipa, who exited in 2020. Lambesis was infamously arrested in 2013 on suspicion of attempting to hire a hitman to kill his estranged wife. He was convicted and sentenced to six years in prison in 2014, but was released after only two and a half years behind bars. He ultimately decided to revitalize As I Lay Dying, and was joined by longtime members Hipa, Gilbert, Phil Sgrosso and Jordan Mancino. The band has been touring again ever since, and released the new album Shaped by Fire in 2019. In a statement on Monday (May 16th), Gilbert said,...

Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson Attend Primus’ Rush Tribute Show in Toronto: “They Did Us Proud”

Primus had a couple of potentially intimidating fans on Friday (May 14th) at Toronto’s Massey Hall, where Rush members Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson were in attendance. After all, Primus are paying tribute to Rush during this tour, but it appears they didn’t disappoint the prog-rock legends. Primus have been playing Rush’s A Farewell to Kings in its entirety, along with select Primus cuts, on the ongoing tribute run. When the route passed through Rush’s native Canada, it only made sense for Lee and Lifeson to drop by and check it out (Lee had previously given Primus’ Les Claypool some in-person tips prior to the tour). “On Friday night we had the joyful experience of reuniting with our grand pals from Primus… Les, Ler, Herb and their gang…” wrote Lee on Instagram. “We sat side stage as they i...

Judas Priest Confirm That K.K. Downing Will Attend Rock Hall Induction Ceremony

Judas Priest bassist Ian Hill has confirmed that former guitarist K.K. Downing will attend the band’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. Downing left the group in 2011 and has been estranged from Priest in the years to follow. He has since formed a solo act, KK’s Priest, laying claim to half of his ex-band’s namesake. Nevertheless, his contributions during his four-decade stint with the NWOBHM pioneers remain essential to the Judas Priest legacy. When Priest were announced as part of the class of 2022 via the Musical Excellence Award, many wondered whether Downing would attend the ceremony alongside his former bandmates. Thankfully, founding bassist Ian Hill has confirmed that K.K. will be there for the induction. Advertisement Related Video “[Guitarist] Richie [Faulkner] is sadly not...

Dune Rats Premiere Video for New Song “Melted Into Two”: Stream

Australia’s Dune Rats have unveiled a romantic video for their new song “Melted Into Two,” which is premiering exclusively via Heavy Consequence. The tune will appear on the band’s upcoming album, Real Rare Whale, arriving on July 29th. Fun is the name of the game for this punk trio, and “Melted Into Two” perfectly captures their upbeat vibe. The band’s sing-along power pop is driven by earnest vocals and big garage-rock chords in the vein of Ty Segall and Redd Kross. Considering Dune Rats propensity for tongue-in-cheek shenanigans, the video for “Melted Into Two” is actually quite adorable. It follows a real-life couple — Kell and Ellie — who’ve fallen in love.
