Grey Daze Announce New Album Featuring Chester Bennington’s Vocals, Share “Saturation (Strange Love)”: Stream
Grey Daze, the Phoenix-based band that was fronted by the late Chester Bennington prior to his career in Linkin Park, has announced the newly recorded album The Phoenix, arriving June 17th. The new LP follows 2020’s Amends, another album that featured Bennington’s vocals. Like Amends — with the blessing of Chester’s family — the original members of Grey Daze re-recorded the band’s old material from the ’90s while incorporating Chester’s vocal tracks. The new album also features contributions from Dave Navarro, Richard Patrick, and Bennington’s daughters, Lily and Lila Bennington. Metallica’s Kirk Hammett Shares New Song “High Plains Drifter” from Upcoming Solo EP: Stream
Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett has unveiled the new song “High Plains Drifter” from his upcoming instrumental solo EP, Portals, out April 23rd. The song offers the first taste of music from the EP, and sees Hammett embracing his fondness for cinema and epic musical composition. The guitarist enlisted the help of Edwin Outwater (Metallica’s S&M2), Jon Theodore of Queens of the Stone Age (and a member of Kirk’s covers act The Wedding Band), and members of the LA Philharmonic orchestra to achieve the grandeur heard on “High Plains Drifter.” As Hammett explained in a press release, the track shares an inspirational relationship with the 1973 film of the same name. OTTTO and Bastardane, Each Featuring the Son of a Metallica Member, Announce Co-Headlining 2022 Tour
Two bands that each feature the son of a Metallica member have announced a co-headlining 2022 US tour. OTTTO (with Robert Trujillo’s bassist son Tye Trujillo) and Bastardane (with James Hetfield’s drummer son Castor Hetfield) will hit the West Coast together beginning in late May. Both OTTTO and Bastardane played shows in San Francisco back in December as part of Metallica’s 40th anniversary celebration takeover in the city. Each band is set to perform at the previously announced BottleRock festival in Napa Valley on May 27th (Bastardane) and May 28th (OTTTO). From there, they’ll play six co-headlining shows together, all in California, with tickets available here. R.I.P. Tim Feerick, Dance Gavin Dance Bassist Has Died
Tim Feerick, the longtime bassist of post-hardcore act Dance Gavin Dance, has died. No cause of death has been given, but the band revealed that Feerick passed away on Wednesday night (April 13th). “We are absolutely devastated to share the news that our friend and bass player, Tim Feerick, passed away last night,” read the statement from the band on Instagram. “We ask that you respect our privacy and that of Tim’s family while we deal with this heartbreaking and untimely loss. Chino Moreno on Deftones’ Return to Touring: It’s “Going to Be Cathartic” to Scream and Sing Again
After two postponements due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Deftones are finally set to kick off their North American tour with Gojira. Singer Chino Moreno expects the long-awaited excursion to be a cathartic experience after a couple of years off the road. The tour was originally scheduled for Summer 2020, then postponed to Summer 2021, and finally rescheduled for Spring 2022. Alice Cooper Announces Fall 2022 North American Tour
Alice Cooper will keep his show on the road this fall with a newly announced set of North American dates. The legendary shock rocker will embark on a month-long outing beginning in early September. Since the concert industry started to open back up last year, Cooper has been a road dog. He embarked on a Fall 2021 trek with support from Ace Frehley, and is currently in the midst of a spring run with openers Buckcherry (with Frehley taking over the support slot for the final three shows). The fall “Detroit Muscle” tour kicks off September 7th in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, and runs through an October 8th show in Las Vegas. Former Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic has teamed up with drummer Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam, Soundgarden) and guitarist Kim Thayil (Soundgarden) to form a new band called 3rd Secret. What’s more, they’ve already dropped their self-titled debut album, available on streaming services as of today (April 11th). The outfit is rounded out by guitarist Bubba Dupree (of the ’80s hardcore band Void) and singers Jillian Raye (of Novoselic’s group Giants in the Trees) and Jennifer Johnson. According to the credits listed on the band’s official website, Novoselic and Cameron are among the primary songwriters of the 11-track album.
