Testament’s Alex Skolnick Forms New Rap Duo Hu$h Money, Condemns Right-Wing Echo Chambers in “B.I.G. L.I.E.”: Stream

Testament guitarist and unlikely political hip-hop prodigy Alex Skolnick has debuted his new rap group, Hu$h Money, and shared the video for the track “B.I.G. L.I.E.” Last year, Skolnick made headlines when he released a pair of politically-charged rap songs, one blasting Donald Trump and another encouraging us to “Wear a F**king Mask.” Now Skolnick has returned as his alter ego Skoly-D and teamed up with co-conspirator Kimmy G, aka Kimmy Gordon, for a full-blown rap project. “B.I.G. L.I.E.,”  which also features guest rapper J-Hype, picks up where Skoly-D left off with his previous songs, this time taking on “right-wing echo chambers” and the political lunacy that provoked the Capital insurrection a year ago today (January 6th). The song comes complete with an equally tongue-in-cheek...

With just over a month until the release date, they’ve also shared the lead single “Barren of Joy” featuring Full of Hell vocalist Dylan Walker. Year in and year out, The Body continue to offer up beguiling and adventurous heavy music that defies categorization. The duo of Lee Buford and Chip King frequently collaborate with like-minded artists to achieve their vision, having worked with Full of Hell, BIG|BRAVE, Uniform, and many more. For their latest collab, Buford and King teamed up with OAA, who had previously remixed a track for The Body’s 20th anniversary Remixed LP in 2019. True to its stark title, “Barren of Joy” is an uncompromising blast of free-form no...

Loathe Unleash New Song “Dimorphous Display”: Stream

Loathe have unleashed the new one-off single “Dimorphous Display,” their first non-instrumental track since 2020’s I Let It In and It Took Everything. “Dimorphous Display” is a bit of a departure for Loathe, who embrace a ’90s alternative aesthetic over the metallic leanings of their 2020 album. The saturated production and ambitious arrangement paint the band in a new light without compromising the dynamic songwriting. According to a press release, the UK experimental metal group worked with Eddie Al-Shakarchi at Giant Wafer Studios on “capturing the rawest incarnation of the Loathe sound to date.” The final version expands on a demo that was recorded after the sessions for I Let It In and It Took Everything. Travis Barker Turns Adele’s “Easy on Me” Into Hard-Rock Anthem with Thunderous Drum Cover: Watch

Travis Barker has delivered a thunderous drum cover of Adele’s recent chart-topping single “Easy on Me,” turning the heart-wrenching ballad into a hard-rocking anthem. The Blink-182 stickman posted a 30-second clip of himself on Instagram going full bore on his kit as the original song plays in the background. Barker’s take on the tune may turn some fans of heavy music onto the song, if they hadn’t already been lured in by Adele’s mesmerizing vocals. Sporting a Napalm Death shirt, Barker channels The Muppets’ Animal as he beats the hell out of his drums, all timed perfectly to the tune’s chorus. The performance earned Barker a heart emoji from his new fiancée, Kourtney Kardashian, as well as lots of fire emojis from other commenters. Earlier this week, it had come to light that original Coal Chamber bassist Rayna Foss was reported missing back in September. Now, her daughter, Kayla Rose, has set the record straight, revealing that her mother is not missing and that she spoke with her mother “as recently as yesterday.” On September 13th, local Fox TV affiliate WVUE posted that Foss was reported missing on September 7th by a manager at the New Orleans group home in which the musician apparently resides. The report went largely unnoticed for nearly four months but was finally picked up by metal sites this week. Kayla, who is the daughter of Foss and her ex-husband, Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose, took to Instagram today (January 5th), to report that her mother is safe and sound: “To everyone that has reached out in some wa...

Jeopardy Contestant Confuses Nickelback with Arcade Fire

At least she got the Canadian part right! Jeopardy contestant Kate Woomer-Deters was quick to pose the question “Who is Arcade Fire?” when given a clue that required the response “Who is Nickelback?” — thus confusing one of the 21st century’s most critically acclaimed bands with one of its most critically maligned acts. The musical faux pas happened within the “Billboard Top 200 Albums in 2021” category on Monday night’s episode of the popular quiz show. Reigning champion Amy Schneider had gotten the first four items correct in the category before the contestants were posed the $1,000 clue, “‘The Best Of’ this Canadian band, ‘Volume 1’ included ‘Rockstar,’ ‘How You Remind Me’ & 17 other songs.” After Woomer-Dieters gave her “Who is Arcade Fire?” response, contestant Harsh Daga rang in ...

Exodus’ Gary Holt Thinks “Shitty Metallica” Mention in New Cobra Kai Season Is “Rad”

Exodus got a big mention in the new season of Netflix’s popular series Cobra Kai, although it had one character referring to the veteran thrash band as “shitty Metallica.” Nonetheless, guitarist Gary Holt is celebrating the “massive Exodus reference.” In the scene (a minor spoiler), the character of Raymond (also known as “Stingray”) — played by Paul Walter Hauser — is confronted by a neighbor, who tells him, “Some freeloader was blaring shitty Metallica all night!” To which Stingray responds, “Yeah, that was actually Exodus’ Bonded by Blood, but it’s not your fault, you don’t know the genre.” Holt, a longtime member of Exodus who also played guitar in Slayer’s final lineup, posted the clip on his Instagram account, writing, “RAD!! One of my favorite shows just threw a massive Exodus refer...

Tom Morello Admits He Doesn’t Know How to Use His Home Studio

Like many artists during the pandemic, Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello was forced to work remotely and record music from home during lockdowns. The only problem: He doesn’t know how to use his home studio. In a recent interview with Guitar World, Morello said, “For the first four months or so [of the pandemic] I was absolutely adrift. You know, I have a nice studio in my house, but I don’t know how to work it. Like, I don’t know how to move any of the buttons around. So I was like, ‘I’m not going to be able to play shows. I’m not going to be able to record music.’” The lack of expertise with his gear didn’t stopped Morello from being extremely productive during the pandemic. In the past few months, he released two guest-heavy solo albums, The Altas Underground Fire and ...

Dirty Honey Cover Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” on a Frozen Lake for NHL Winter Classic: Watch

Dirty Honey covered Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy” on a frozen lake as part of the festivities for the NHL Winter Classic hockey game, hosted on New Year’s Day in Minneapolis. The Los Angeles-based band surely aren’t used to sub-freezing temperatures, but they turned in a lively and inspired version of the Purple Rain opener — a cover worthy of the hometown hero Prince himself. Lest we not forget, the Purple One performed his iconic Super Bowl XLI halftime show in inclement conditions back in 2007. The NHL Winter Classic takes place annually on New Year’s Day and pits two of the league’s teams against one another in an outdoor venue. In fact, it was former NHL player Tyler Lassiter that put Dirty Honey on TNT’s radar for the Winter Classic performance. Advertisement “I found out about Dirt...
