Tool Set Retail Release for Ultra Deluxe Fear Inoculum Vinyl (At Much Lower Price Than Signed Version)

Tool raised some eyebrows when they recently began selling limited autographed copies of a new “Ultra Deluxe” vinyl edition of their 2019 album Fear Inoculum at their concerts for $810 ($750 plus service fees and taxes). Now, the band has set a retail price for the unsigned set at the much lower cost of $169.98, with a release date of April 8th. Several days ago, a Reddit thread went viral when someone posted a photo of the deluxe 5-LP collection at a Tool merch booth with the sticker price of $810. Even considering the base price of $750, the newly announced unsigned retail version arrives at a cost that’s $580 lower. That comes out to be around $145 for each band member’s autograph. For diehard Tool fans, perhaps that’s a reasonable price to pay to get all four signatures on the same ite...

Spirit Adrift Share Cover of Pantera’s “Hollow”: Stream

Spirit Adrift have covered Pantera‘s “Hollow” to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the latter’s iconic Vulgar Display of Power album. The cover sees the Austin-based Spirit Adrift faithfully paying homage to their Texas metal forebearers. As one of Pantera’s more mid-tempo, melodic songs, “Hollow” works well within Spirit Adrift’s traditional heavy metal framework. It’s no surprise that the song and Vulgar Display of Power were a major influence on singer-guitarist Nate Garrett. “Vulgar Display of Power was a massive influence on my understanding of powerful songwriting, memorable arrangements, riffing, drumming, singing, and heavy metal in general”, Garrett said in a press release. “I studied the entire album from an early age, and the standout track to me has always been ‘Hollow.’ I...

Ukrainian Metal Band Jinjer Condemn Putin’s Decision to Start a War

Jinjer, a Ukrainian metal band which has achieved international success, have condemned Vladimir Putin’s decision to have Russian troops invade their “sovereign and independent” country. Coming off the release of their fourth album, Wallflowers, in August of last year, Jinjer are set to open the first leg of Slipknot’s “Knotfest Roadshow” US tour starting next month, as well as headline a number of off-dates from the outing (tickets here). While it is uncertain how the current unrest in the Ukraine will affect their tour plans, the band is focused on the bigger picture right now. In a new Facebook post, Jinjer reported that they are currently safe while also imploring for the war to come to a swift end. Their message reads as follows: “Dear all, as we write this text, for the moment, each ...

Tool Stop Show to Help Fan in Distress: Watch

Don’t let Kanye hear this one. Maynard James Keenan stopped a Tool performance in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday night (February 22nd) to ensure medics could attend to a fan in distress. According to Rock Feed, fans alerted the singer to a member of the front row who appeared to be having a medical emergency, prompting Keenan to stop performing and ask the audience to make way for medics to reach the fan. During the intermission, the singer bantered with the crowd (“Woke up this morning with a sore throat and a little bit of a cough… Anything going around I should know about?”) and thanked Tool’s fans for attending the show. Watch the moment take place below. Many artists have made a point to assure audiences they care about fan safety in light of the Astroworld tragedy, in which ten people d...

Amon Amarth Return with New Song “Put Your Back into the Oar”: Stream

Amon Amarth are here to teach us how to properly row a viking ship. The Swedish metal band has offered up the cinematic music video for the new stand-alone single “Put Your Back into the Oar.” It’s a galvanizing slice of Viking-inspired heavy metal, one that will surely be a crowd favorite at Amon Amarth’s vibrant live shows. The accompanying clip, shot over three days in England, brings the song’s mythology to life. The track is the first new Amon Amarth composition we’ve heard since 2019’s Berserker. The single was recorded and mixed in January 2021 at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden with producer Jens Bogren. Related Video “We’ve been quiet over the last two years, but we’ve been at home in Sweden hard at work behind the scenes,” the band said in a press statement. “Much has been s...

Foo Fighters Go Extreme Metal on New Song “March of the Insane”: Stream

Foo Fighters have unleashed their inner extreme-metal inner selves on the new song “March of the Insane.” Released under the band moniker Dream Widow, the song conjures up early thrash reminiscent of Venom, Slayer, Celtic Frost, and other likeminded acts. While Foo Fighters’ new horror movie, Studio 666, doesn’t arrive until February 25th, it’s probably safe to assume that Dream Widow are a fictional band referenced in the film. The movie is centered around the Foos’ attempt to record a new album in a haunted mansion. The tune, which according to the YouTube description, is from Dream Widow’s “never-released self-titled album.” It’s thrashy as hell, with some very metal vocals from Dave Grohl and spectacular lyrics like, “Sing in a villainous choir / Join in chorus of pain.” Advertisement ...

Kurt Cobain’s Daughter Is Dating Tony Hawk’s Son

In the counterculture pairing we didn’t know we needed, Frances Bean Cobain, the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, has revealed she’s in a relationship with Riley Hawk, the son of Tony Hawk and Cindy Dunbar. Cool attracts cool, clearly. Cobain made the relationship Instagram official back in January, when she returned from a year-long break with a New Year’s post full of life updates. “I took a year long break from posting on Instagram which was exceptionally good for my mental, emotional & spiritual health,” Cobain wrote. “2021 brought me more into the present moment than I’ve ever been, which I’m deeply grateful for. I wanted to share a few moments that were captured / created this past year that brought me a great amount of joy. Here’s to hoping everyone’s 2022 is filled wi...

Judas Priest’s “Breaking the Law” Soundtracks Liquid Death Super Bowl Commercial: Watch

A rendition of Judas Priest’s classic song “Breaking the Law” was featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Liquid Death canned water. The humorous ad plays with the idea of the canned water resembling a tall boy of beer, as a gang of kids proceed to go nuts as they pound the hydrating H2O. Some beer-commercial style close-ups of the spinning can drive home the parody, which ends with a pregnant mother sipping some Liquid Death herself. The only thing that could have made the ad better is use of the actual Judas Priest recording (as opposed to the watered-down version featuring commercial session singers), but we’re not complaining. Advertisement Related Video Liquid Death went full-on with the heavy-metal theme for their Super Bowl campaign. The brand’s separate pre-game spot saw the compan...
