Trivium’s Matt Heafy Announces Debut Ibaraki Album, Shares “Akumu” Featuring Nergal: Stream

Trivium frontman Matthew Kiichi Heafy has announced Rashomon, the debut album from his black metal solo project Ibaraki. The Ihsahn-produced LP arrives May 6th via Nuclear Blast. Ahead of the release date, Heafy shared the second single from the project, “Akumu,” which features guest vocals by Behemoth’s Nergal. It was co-written by Heafy and Ihsahn, with Nergal translating the lyrics into his native Polish. “‘Akumu’ translates to ‘nightmare’ — and with this piece, I encourage the listener to work to find their interpretations of what they feel from the lyrics, music, and the haunting visuals of the music video,” Heafy remarked in a press release. “I have always been fascinated by Sagazan’s ‘Transfiguration,’ and for years, I have wanted to pay homage to his works with a performance art pi...

Ed Sheeran and Bring Me the Horizon Unleash Collaborative Take on “Bad Habits”: Stream

Following an onstage collaboration at the Brit Awards, Ed Sheeran and Bring Me the Horizon have released a studio version of their heavier take on Sheeran’s smash hit “Bad Habits.” Sheeran and Bring Me the Horizon performed the song together last week during the Brits, the UK’s equivalent of the Grammys, with BMTH adding a metalcore flavor to the pop superstar’s No. 1 single. Sheeran and BMTH singer Oli Sykes traded verses, with the band adding some heavy breakdowns, leading up to Sykes’ screams at the very end. The studio version reproduces the same arrangement while adding some polish to the finished product. For Bring Me the Horizon, the collaboration with Sheeran isn’t as surprising as it may seem. The band has moved away from its deathcore and metalcore sound in recent years, embracin...

Amon Amarth Return with New Song “Put Your Back into the Oar”: Stream

Amon Amarth are here to teach us how to properly row a viking ship. The Swedish metal band has offered up the cinematic music video for the new stand-alone single “Put Your Back into the Oar.” It’s a galvanizing slice of Viking-inspired heavy metal, one that will surely be a crowd favorite at Amon Amarth’s vibrant live shows. The accompanying clip, shot over three days in England, brings the song’s mythology to life. The track is the first new Amon Amarth composition we’ve heard since 2019’s Berserker. The single was recorded and mixed in January 2021 at Fascination Street Studios in Sweden with producer Jens Bogren. Related Video “We’ve been quiet over the last two years, but we’ve been at home in Sweden hard at work behind the scenes,” the band said in a press statement. “Much has been s...

Dave Grohl Planning to Release Thrash Metal Album Next Week

Dave Grohl is planning to release a full-length thrash metal album, and it’ll likely arrive sometime in the next week. To coincide with the release of Foo Fighters’ new horror film, Studio 666, the band recorded music under the moniker Dream Widow. Grohl quietly released one of Dream Widow’s tracks, “March of the Insane,” earlier this week, but he says there’s an entire album’s worth of material on the way. Studio 666 follows Foo Fighters as they record their album, Medicine at Midnight, in a haunted mansion. As Grohl explained during an interview on The Howard Stern Show this week, Dream Widow’s music is a central plot point in the film. “I wind up finding this creepy basement. And I go into the basement, I find this tape by a band [Dream Widow] from 25 years ago that recorded there. And ...

Rammstein’s New Album Might Be Delayed Due to Paper Shortage

German industrial-metal luminaries Rammstein are facing a rather industrial conundrum: a paper shortage. A supply chain crunch across Europe has led to high prices and a lack of supply in the paper industry. Apparently, Rammstein’s new album could face delays because of a scarcity in materials for record packaging and booklets. The news came from an interview with German composer Sven Helbig, who contributed to Rammstein’s new material. When asked about a possible release window for the completed album, Helbig said that the band feared it could be delayed due to the paper shortage. Advertisement Related Video “The band itself doesn’t know at the moment,” Helbig told German website saechsische.de [as translated by RammWiki] regarding a potential release date. “The trivial reason: lack of pa...

Foo Fighters Go Extreme Metal on New Song “March of the Insane”: Stream

Foo Fighters have unleashed their inner extreme-metal inner selves on the new song “March of the Insane.” Released under the band moniker Dream Widow, the song conjures up early thrash reminiscent of Venom, Slayer, Celtic Frost, and other likeminded acts. While Foo Fighters’ new horror movie, Studio 666, doesn’t arrive until February 25th, it’s probably safe to assume that Dream Widow are a fictional band referenced in the film. The movie is centered around the Foos’ attempt to record a new album in a haunted mansion. The tune, which according to the YouTube description, is from Dream Widow’s “never-released self-titled album.” It’s thrashy as hell, with some very metal vocals from Dave Grohl and spectacular lyrics like, “Sing in a villainous choir / Join in chorus of pain.” Advertisement ...

Judas Priest’s “Breaking the Law” Soundtracks Liquid Death Super Bowl Commercial: Watch

A rendition of Judas Priest’s classic song “Breaking the Law” was featured in a Super Bowl commercial for Liquid Death canned water. The humorous ad plays with the idea of the canned water resembling a tall boy of beer, as a gang of kids proceed to go nuts as they pound the hydrating H2O. Some beer-commercial style close-ups of the spinning can drive home the parody, which ends with a pregnant mother sipping some Liquid Death herself. The only thing that could have made the ad better is use of the actual Judas Priest recording (as opposed to the watered-down version featuring commercial session singers), but we’re not complaining. Rob Zombie has revealed some exciting news from the set of his movie adaptation of The Munsters. The rocker-director has revealed that Jorge Garcia, most famous for playing Hurley on ABC’s hit TV show Lost, is playing the role of Floop in the film. The film is currently in production in Budapest, Hungary, where a set was recently built to faithfully recreate the Munsters’ mansion 1313 Mockingbird Lane and its surrounding neighborhood, as seen in the original 1960s sitcom. Ghost and Volbeat Bring the Fire in the Home of the Devils: Recap + Photos

You might not expect a rock or metal show to kick off with a saxophone rhythm that slaps, but that was the first sound the fans at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, heard onstage as Twin Temple began to play on Thursday night (February 10th). Vocalist Alexandra James and her husband, guitarist Zachary James, took to the stage in an opening ritual with swords and all. The singer asked for Satan to burn down sexism, racism and ignorance. If the big man downstairs is wise, he’ll heed her request. Alexandra’s vibe is part Elvira, with the soulful essence of an Amy Winehouse, and a sprinkle of a Lars von Trier film — but she has created an innovative style that is all her own. The height of her beehive hair was impressive, but nothing could outmatch her vocal talent as she belted out...

Ho99o9 Announce New Album and 2022 Tour, Share “Nuge Snight”: Stream

The 22-date outing kicks off April 15th in Los Angeles and runs through May 14th in Houston. Get tickets via Ticketmaster. Ho99o9 previously offered up the Barker-produced single “Batteries Not Included.” At the time, the genre-defying duo of Yeti Bones and theOGM promised news on a new album soon, and they’ve followed through. Advertisement Related Video It turns out Barker produced the whole album. Instead of steering Ho99o9 in a new musical direction, he has instead bolstered the band’s harsh aesthetics with a hi-fi touch that only adds to the bruta...
