Robert Fripp (in Mask) and Toyah (in Barely Anything) Perform Slipknot’s “Psychosocial”: Watch

Who knew that Robert Fripp and Toyah Willcox were a couple of Maggots? For their latest “Sunday Lunch” performance, the King Crimson guitarist and his singer wife take on Slipknot’s “Psychosocial,” offering up quite the visual in doing so. Maggots, for those not in the know, is the affectionate term for Slipknot fans, and it’s clear that Robert and Toyah have some love for the masked Iowa band. Robert is even wearing an era-appropriate Corey Taylor mask from Slipknot’s touring cycle for 2008’s All Hope Is Gone album, on which “Psychosocial” appears. Toyah, of course, is wearing barely anything — a sheer red wrap over heart-shaped pasties. She enhances her performance by whipping out … a handheld blender! Zakk Wylde and Charlie Benante to Round Out Pantera Lineup for 2023 Tour: Report

On Wednesday (July 13th), news broke that surviving members Philip Anselmo and Rex Brown would resurrect Pantera for a 2023 tour. According to a new report from Billboard, Zakk Wylde and Anthrax’s Charlie Benante will fill the band’s guitar and drum positions held by late brothers Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul, respectively. Billboard cites a source close to the band as confirming that Wylde and Benante are on board, while also revealing that Pantera will headline major North American and European festivals next year, in addition to playing headlining shows. The report further divulges that the estates of Dimebag and Vinnie Paul have given the tour their blessings. Wylde, who fronts Black Label Society and is the touring guitarist for Ozzy Osbourne, has long been mentioned as a potential...

Disturbed Return with “Hey You,” First New Song in Four Years: Stream

Disturbed are back with a new single, “Hey You,” marking their first new original song in four years. The multiplatinum metal band has also revealed that it will release a new as-yet-untitled album later this year. While Disturbed have recorded notable cover songs in the past, including their smash-hit version of Simon & Garfunkel’s “The Sound of Silence,” it is very evident in the opening seconds of the new song is that it’s NOT a cover of the iconic Pink Floyd hit of the same name. “Hey You” harkens back to Disturbed’s massive debut 2000 album, The Sickness, with singer David Draiman delivering his signature staccato vocals over a crushing Dan Donegan guitar riff in the verses. The chorus showcases the more melodic side of Disturbed, while still maintaining the overall heaviness of t...

Ex-Megadeth Bassist David Ellefson Launches New Band Dieth, Unveils First Single: Stream

Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson has launched a new band called Dieth. The group also shared a performance clip for its lead single “In the Hall of the Hanging Serpents.” Dieth’s lineup is rounded out by Swedish singer-guitarist Guilherme Miranda (ex-Entombed A.D.) and Polish drummer Michał Łysejko (ex-Decapitated). A second guitarist, Michał Grall, is featured in the video, but does not appear to be an official band member. With ex-Entombed A.D. and Decapitated members on board, it’s no surprise that “In the Hall of the Hanging Serpents” is in the technical death metal style, with pummeling blast beats, snarled vocals, and chugging breakdowns. Pantera to Reunite for 2023 Tour

The surviving members of Pantera are set to reunite in 2023 for their first tour in over 20 years. Billboard reports that singer Philip Anselmo and bassist Rex Brown have signed a deal with Artist Group International to book their upcoming North American dates. “We are thrilled to be working with such an iconic band and bringing their music back to the fans,” agent Peter Pappalardo said in a statement. It’s unclear who will be joining Anselmo and Brown on the road for the tour. Guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell was murdered during a show in Ohio in 2004, while his brother Vinnie Paul died in 2018 from heart disease. In an interview in 2019, Anselmo teased the possibility of a Pantera tribute tour with Brown and guitarist Zakk Wylde, a longtime friend of the band. Advertisement “Well, Zakk is a b...

Descendents React to Ex-Oath Keeper Spokesperson Wearing Band’s Shirt to January 6th Committee Hearing

Legendary punk act Descendents got some publicity they didn’t bargain for when a former spokesperson for the Oath Keepers wore the band’s iconic shirt to a January 6th committee hearing on Tuesday (July 12th). The band subsequently disavowed the extremist group in a social media post. Jason Van Tatenhove once served as the national spokesperson for the Oath Keepers but disassociated himself from the group long before the January 6th attack on the US Capitol in 2021. As Yahoo! News reports, he was essentially testifying against the Oath Keepers on Tuesday, telling the committee, “We’ve gotten exceedingly lucky that more bloodshed did not happen, because the potential has been there from the start.” Van Tatenhove added, “They may not like to call themselves a militia, but they are, they’re a...

Stranger Things Actor Joseph Quinn Actually Mastered Metallica’s “Master of Puppets” on Guitar: Watch

Editor’s Note: The following article contains some minor spoilers for Stranger Things Season 4. While Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo’s son Tye played “additional guitar tracks” for a key scene in Stranger Things in which the character of Eddie Munson shreds “Master of Puppets,” credit should also go to actor Joseph Quinn for learning the metal classic himself. A new video posted by the writers of the popular Netflix series shows Quinn very ably playing the tune during a practice session. While it’s not clear which, if any, of the notes that are heard in the Season 4 finale of Stranger Things are actually being played by Quinn, he is seen playing the proper notes to “Master of Puppets” in the scene.
