Failure Announce New Album Wild Type Droid, Share “Headstand”: Stream

Failure have announced their fifth studio album, Wild Type Droid, arriving December 3rd. The band also shared the lead single, “Headstand.” Considering the full album drops in less than a month, the LP’s announcement comes as a pleasant surprise to Failure’s tight-knit, dedicated fanbase. Failure albums are few and far between: They’ve only released five in 31 years. The cult alt-rock trio are known for their immense “space rock” sound design and mastery of melody, and the new song “Headstand” delivers on both fronts. Singer-bassist Ken Andrews’ controlled coos and smokey vocals are backed by washes of Greg Edwards’ shoegazey guitars and Kelli Scott’s deliberate, pocketed beat. “Headstand” is audio bliss. Testament’s Alex Skolnick Shares Video for New Song “Florida Man Blues” feat. Brian Posehn: Stream

Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick has shared the video for his new song with the Alex Skolnick Trio, “Florida Man Blues.” The clip features cameos by heavy metal comedians Brian Posehn and Dave Hill. Skolnick wrote and recorded the track with his band back in 2019. After sitting on the song for nearly two years, the guitarist finally shared the blues-based romp, which is clearly inspired by the “Florida Man” meme headlines coming out of the Sunshine State. A comedic song needed a comedic clip, so Skolnick tapped Adam Dubin for “Florida Man Blues.” Dubin co-directed the Beastie Boys’ legendary “Fight for Your Right” video, and Skolnick even smashes a TV with a sledgehammer in homage to Adam Yauch. Posehn and Hill make humorous appearances, the latter as an alligator-carrying booze enthusias...

Thank Announce Debut Album Thoughtless Cruelty, Share “Good Boy”: Stream

UK noise rock act Thank have announced their debut full-length album, Thoughtless Cruelty. The band also shared the lead single “Good Boy” ahead of the LP’s February 4th release date. Not for the faint of heart, Thank unleash a three-minute torrent of abstract expression. Unhinged dance beats clash with the equally unhinged vocals of Freddy Vinehill-Cliffe, whose delivery bears similarities to Daughters’ Alexis Marshall. The band manages to create an art-rock cacophony that’s as anxious as it is captivating. Perhaps it was Thank’s method of writing — partly forced upon them by the circumstances of the pandemic — that led to the genuinely beguiling sound heard on “Good Boy.” Due to lockdowns, the band members hadn’t practiced before recording the album, building the song arrangeme...
