Snoop Dogg was one of the performers at a fundraiser held by Shaquille O’Neal’s charity on Saturday night, playing a set during which the Long Beach rapper brought Shaq himself on stage to fill in for Dr. Dre on “Nuthin’ But a ‘G’ Thang.” “I wanna bring out somebody that means a lot to me. One of my dear friends who I feel like we got in at the same time,” Snoop said before introducing the NBA Hall Famer, who released four rap albums in the 1990s. “We been doing the same things lately and he’s the man of the night. So if you don’t mind, we gon’ do something special for y’all. Never before, never seen, Snoop Dogg and Shaq. Let’s go.” Striding onto the stage in a spiffy maroon sports jacket, Shaq proceeded to admirably take on the classic hip-hop track, which was released on Dr. Dre’s debut ...
“I’m trying to chill out,” he said. “I’m kind of stepping away, getting focused, going within, getting my celibacy on. I have enough children, enough frolicking, I’m good right now.” When the hosts joked that Cannon isn’t really celibate, he responded, “Nah, y’all said I ain’t really. I’m saying I’m going in.” Last month, the actor told TMZ that he’s open to having more children. When asked if he wants to continue expanding his family, he said, “God willing. If God sees it that way, then that’s what I’m going to keep doing.” Cannon welcomed his eldest children, twins Monroe and Moroccan, with ex-wife Mariah Carey in 2011. He shares 3-year-old son&...
“I Believe I Can Fly,” which was featured on the soundtrack to the 1996 film Space Jam, reached No. 2 on the Hot 100 for four weeks and won Kelly three Grammy Awards, including best R&B song. The confused priest overseeing the service, played by host Owen Wilson, then chimes to clarify that the dead woman specifically wanted “Fly” performed during her funeral. “But R. Kelly is a horrible man who did awful things,” another mourner says, as the other guests agree that perhaps the lady didn’t know about the 54-year-old singer’s crimes. Thompson’s Burton, dressed in a sequin and large glasses, then continues singing as photos of the deceased woman posing with other celebrities accused of wrongdoing, including Louis C.K., Kevin Spacey an...

Jesy Nelson’s solo era is coming soon. The 30-year-old artist shared the news by dropping the single’s cover art, which features both her and Minaj in black-and-white ensembles — the singer in a black bralette, white basketball shorts, Bathing Ape low top sneakers and Chanel necklaces; the “Chun-Li” rapper in a white sherpa vest, black sherpa booties, bauble rings and a Chanel bangle. On Tuesday, The Alchemist announced This Thing of Ours Vol. 2, the sequel to the April EP This Thing of Ours. Now, he’s shared the first single from the October 8th release, “Miracle Baby,” featuring the 21-year-old North Carolinian Mavi. Alchemist beats tend to go easy on the percussion and hard on atmospherics, and “Miracle Baby” is no exception. The track opens with samples with such a tinny tone that they just sound black and white, as voices say, “Look in my eyes and tell me what you see,” and, “The eyes are the window to the soul.” The beat drops with choral “oohs,” and persistent bass, and while it’s possible to pick out kick drums and high hats, they’re low enough in the mix that Mavi has the space to do whatever he wants. Here, the rising rapper unleashes a stream o...
Brandy, Eve, Naturi Naughton and Nadine Velazquez are rooting for every “Nasty Girl” in their first single and music video from the upcoming ABC series Queens. They will all star in the upcoming hip-hop drama series about a former ’90s girl group called the Nasty Bitches trying to shine once more in the spotlight. Ahead of the series’ premiere, Brandy, Eve, Naughton and Velazquez released their first joint single “Nasty Girl” on Friday (Oct. 1) via Def Jam Recordings. The accompanying visual, which was directed by Tim Story (*NSYNC, Monica, The LOX), features Eve, aka Professor Sex, preparing the party at a quite literally lit mansion, filled with a legion of shirtless men, before the girls’ arrival. The foursome later take the festivitie...
Rap Song of the Week runs down the essential rap and hip-hop tracks you need to hear every week. Check out the full playlist here. This week, Wale and J. Cole reunite on “Poke It Out.” Later this month, Wale is dropping a sequel to his 2012 mixtape Folarin. To promote the project, the DC rapper reached out to his fellow blog era alum J. Cole for their new collaboration “Poke It Out,” a throwback single sharing the same sample as Q-Tip’s effervescent 1999 hit “Vivrant Thing.” After a brief falling out in late 2016, the dynamic duo officially made amends on Wale’s boastful 2018 track “My Boy (Freestyle),” and the new track finds the longtime collaborators fully unburdened from any past animosity and simply have a good time. Over a bouncy beat by Cool & Dre, Wale and Cole celebrate t...
