Produced by Romil Hemnani, Al Hug, and Kevin Abstract, the song is a bombastic and bold number that sees him trading verses with his fellow rappers and friends. As usual, both he and Slowthai demand your attention on “SLUGGER” with ease, spitting lines with the dexterous ease of their usual flow. Listening to Abstract do his thing, it’s easy to understand why Shia LaBeouf was inspired to write a movie about him — well, almost. “SLUGGER” is Abstract’s first solo release since dropping two EPs back in 2019: the three-track release ARIZONA BABY and a six-song collection dubbed Ghettobaby. The latter...

TOBi Is “Off the Drugs” in New Song with Mick Jenkins: Stream

Born in Nigeria and raised in Canada, TOBi is a rapper on the rise. He’s now teamed with Mick Jenkins for a new meditation on intoxication, “Off the Drugs.” This is not a confessional track or an ode to sobriety, and in fact, the woozy guitars and giddy horns ensure that “Off the Drugs” would sound great while high as a kite. The song opens with one of our favorite legal potions, as TOBi raps, “Caught me slippin’, I was sippin’ bourbon/ Unfamiliar feelings, it’s that liquid courage.” Throughout the song, he also gets buzzed off the bag, ripped off romance, and just plain stoned. “When off the drugs,” he sings, “Show me some love/ On a good trip and I hope it never end/ High as a ceiling fan and I got the spins.” For his part, Jenkins rolls through and rolls up, spinning together ...

Marshmello Snags Production Credit on “Space Jam 2” Song by 24kGoldn and Lil Wayne

The Toon Squad are making a resounding comeback as Space Jam: A New Legacy, a sequel 25 years in the making, hits theaters this weekend.  The movie’s star-studded soundtrack hit streaming services early, with artists such as John Legend, LIL UZI VERT, Big Freedia, SAINt JHN all contributing to the effort. The album also includes a stealthy production credit for Marshmello. The masked hitmaker has kept his foot on the gas after the release of his recent album Shockwave, lending his smooth production stylings to 24kGoldn’s “Control The World” featuring Lil Wayne. Mello keeps it clean with a punchy hip-hop production that keeps melody to a minimum. Backed by the simple strum of an acoustic guitar, the track positions the quick-witted verses of ...

Nelly’s ‘Dilemma’ Video Joins YouTube’s Billion Views Club: ‘Super Dope’

Nelly is in the club. The St. Louis rapper’s 2002 smash “Dilemma” became the latest video to rack up more than one billion views on YouTube. The third single from the MC’s sophomore album, Nellyville, memorably features Destiny’s Child member Kelly Rowland on the hook — as well as an iconic sample of Patti LaBelle’s 1983 song “Love, Need and Want You” — but it’s the lovestruck Benny Boom-directed visual that you likely remember the most. Filmed on the backlot of Universal Studios Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley, the video for the rap ballad opens with the St. Lunatics helping new neighbor Rowland move into a new house with– oh no! — her boyfriend as Nelly looks on with love in his eyes. Undeterred by her da...

Jack Harlow Opens Up About Knowing His Place as a White Man in Hip-Hop

“I feel blessed to have a voice in this period because, one, I’m not a street artist, and two, I’m not Black,” the Louisville, Ky.-based MC told Footwear News. “The only thing keeping me here right now is that level of authenticity, of being myself.” He recalled his previous conversations with his friend and fellow Kentucky rapper Nemo Achida, who is Black, about the state of hip-hop following the resurgent Black Lives Matter movement last summer. Harlow has joked about the white kids being invited to the party before in his single “Tyler Herro,” when he raps, “I brought a gang to the party with me/ Five white boys, but they not *NSYNC.” But he believes the genre is now headed toward a direction that brings the focus back to the Black co...
