Saweetie Responds to Video of Her Elevator Fight With Ex Quavo

Two days after TMZ released a video of Saweetie and Quavo‘s physical altercation in an elevator, Saweetie has issued a statement, calling the incident “unfortunate.” The footage captured their elevator fight, which TMZ reported took place in a North Hollywood apartment complex that Saweetie was renting in 2020. In the video, Saweetie is seen taking a swing at Quavo while the elevator is open before trying to pick up a briefcase, which Quavo grabs as he drags her to the floor of the elevator. Saweetie appears to remain on the floor for the duration of the elevator ride, and although the video does not capture any audio, the rappers seem to exchange a few words as Quavo exits the elevator and props the door open with the orange case while ...

The Weeknd’s First NFT Drop Will Feature New Music and Limited-Edition Artwork

According to a statement announcing the NFT drop, the campaign will kick off with an open edition flash sale of three distinct visual pieces of art, each accompanied by a filtered snippet of an unnamed new song. An unlimited amount of these works will be available for a limited time, followed by a 24-hour auction of “an exclusive 1-of-1 piece of art” tracked by a second, full new song, which will be unfiltered. The winner of the second auction will have an exclusive on the song, which will not be released on any other platforms in the future. “Blockchain is democratizing an industry that has historically been kept shut by the gatekeepers. I’ve always been looking for ways to innovate for fans and shift this archaic music biz and seeing NFT’s allowing creators to be seen and heard mor...

FKA Twigs Thanks Lil Nas X for “Acknowledging the Inspiration” of “Cellophane” on “Montero” Video

After Lil Nas X dropped his new single “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” on Friday, fans were quick to note the visual similarities between it and the music video for FKA Twigs’ 2019 hit “Cellophane”. Both clips feature the artists sliding down a lengthy stripper pole while putting on a difficult routine — by the same choreographer, no less — leaving viewers to question if it was plagiarism or tribute. So Twigs called the rapper on Tuesday to privately discuss the matter once and for all. Ultimately, they’re on good terms, with her even thanking him for “acknowledging the inspiration” of her track. “Thank you @lilnasx for our gentle honest conversations and for acknowledging the inspiration cellophane gave you and your creative team in creating your iconic video!” wrote FKA Twigs. “I t...

Queen Latifah’s Anthem “U.N.I.T.Y.” Still Spells Out a Critical Message About Women’s Rights

Editor’s Note: As Women’s History Month draws to a close, arts critic Okla Jones looks back at the indelible legacy of Queen Latifah and the long-lasting influence her anthem “U.N.I.T.Y.” had on women’s rights, especially in the hip-hop world.  The contributions of women to the arts have often been overlooked throughout history. In music (specifically hip-hop), the female artist has been held to an unfair critical standard. The industry requires women to be both talented and desirable, only to allow them to be negated by public opinion if they come across as overtly “sexy” or if their content doesn’t fit some status quo. For quite some time, the music business has served as a microcosm for society’s treatment of women overall: including the verbal and physical abuse, lack of appreciat...

Surveillance Footage Captures Altercation Between Quavo and Saweetie in Elevator

TMZ has obtained video of an altercation between Migos rapper Quavo and Saweetie. The incident took place in an elevator in Saweetie’s apartment building in 2020. In the surveillance footage, Quavo and Saweetie struggle over possession of an orange case. Saweetie appears to take a swing at Quavo, at which point he pushes her to the ground. Saweetie remains on the ground for several minutes — including when the elevator doors first open — before slowly picking herself up and limping out of view. At no point in the footage does Quavo offer Saweetie assistance. Quavo and Saweetie had been dating since 2018 but broke up earlier this month. In an Instagram post, Saweetie implied that Quavo had been unfaithful. Related You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we r...

Lil Nas X Trolls Critics of Music Video and Satan Shoe with “Apology” Video

On Friday, Lil Nas X released a provocative music video for his latest song, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)”, in which the rapper gives Satan a lap dance before snapping the Devil’s neck. Adding to the inevitable controversy, he also teamed with Brooklyn art collective MSCHF for a “Satan Shoe” allegedly containing one drop of human blood. Conservatives predictably lost their collective minds, with prominent figures like commentator Candace Owens and South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem taking the bait. What Lil Nas X’s critics forgot, however, is that he grew up on the internet. The Atlanta rapper ran a popular Nicki Minaj stan account and spent months trying to meme his way into making “Old Town Road” a hit before it eventually broke through to No. 1 on the Billboard charts. As such, he pos...

Mike Posner Is Climbing Mt. Everest For a Good Cause: ‘I Want My Climb to Be About Others’

“They brought me to tears more than once, but if you push too hard in mountains you die,” he said of the potential pitfalls of ascending the mountain where winds can top 100 m.p.h., and which has become so overcrowded in recent years that even experienced climbers have perished. “One thing I’ve learned is that a lot of life, a lot of beauty, is on the other side of that feeling of anxiety, or fear, or whatever you want to call it,” Posner told CBS This Morning about any trepidation he has about the adventure. The plan is to leave for Kathmandu, Nepal, this week and complete the climb within several months. Posner’s latest single, the bouncy “Momma Always Told Me” featuring Stanaj and Yung Bae, was released earlier this year. His 2010 son...

Lil Nas X Gives ‘Montero’ the ‘Bathroom of Hell’ Edit & Trolls Critics With Satan Sneaker Apology

“Sometimes I forget he’s a celebrity because of how funny he is and real he is lmao,” one person wrote. “Lil Nas X is one of those few celebrities who actually ‘Gets’ the internet,” another said. Meanwhile, on Sunday afternoon Lil Nas X also addressed critics of the “Montero”-inspired “Satan Shoes” he’s allegedly dropping, which supposedly contain “60cc ink and 1 drop of human blood” and are limited to 666 individually numbered pairs. “you know you did something right when she talks about it,” Lil Nas X wrote after Candace Owens suggested “promoting Satan shoes to wear on our feet” is one of the things “keeping Black America behind.” “ur a whole governor and u ...
