Is it too late to say “Sorry”? Via The Hollywood Reporter, Nicki Minaj has agreed to pay Tracy Chapman $450,000 to settle a copyright lawsuit over Minaj’s “Sorry”, which sampled Chapman’s “Baby Can I Hold You” without permission. Minaj wrote the song with Nas for her 2018 album Queen. Initially, Her Pinkness didn’t know she had interpolated “Baby Can I Hold You”, only finding out shortly before the album’s release that, like a Russian nesting doll, one of her samples had itself sampled Chapman. Minaj pleaded with Chapman to clear the song over Twitter, to no avail. Ultimately, Queen dropped without the offending track, and that might have been the end of it. However, Minaj allegedly leaked “Sorry” to Funkmaster Flex, after which it landed on the internet. The two women have ...

Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart ranks the top-selling albums of the week based only on traditional album sales. The Album Sales chart’s history dates back to May 25, 1991, the first week Billboard began tabulating charts with electronically monitored piece count information from SoundScan, now Nielsen Music/MRC Data. Pure album sales were the measurement solely utilized by the Billboard 200 albums chart through the list dated Dec. 6, 2014, after which that chart switched to a methodology that blends album sales with track equivalent album units and streaming equivalent album units. Donald Trump has 13 days left in office — tops, if he doesn’t get impeached or 25th-ed. After the events of Wednesday, he’s in such disarray he can’t even figure out where to sleep. At the same time, he’s also trying to figure out who to pardon with his last gasps of power. Unsurprisingly, a lot of folks he’s considering share the name Trump, but also on the shortlist are rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, according to Bloomberg. Weezy publicly endorsed Trump back in October, posing for a photo-op with the one-termer. Two months later, the Tha Carter V rapper pleaded guilty to a federal weapons charge stemming from a December 2019 incident where a he was found with a firearm on his private plane. The maximum sentence is 10 years, but even without a presidential pardon, he likely would...
Key Glock comes in hot for the new year with the new single “Off the Porch” and its accompanying music video. The Memphis rapper keeps it cool and low-key for the visual, which features him in a dark room surrounded only by a yellow sports car, a matching yellow bike and a mic that catches on fire once he’s done spitting. He flexes his chains, including one featuring Homer Simpson that blinks after he lets him hit his blunt, and compares his drip to that of Lil Uzi Vert. “Diamonds dancing on me like Uzi, choppa keep Bruce Lee, pullin’ up too deep,” he raps in the first verse. He released two back-to-back mixtapes last year, Yellow Tape in January and Son of a Gun in May via Paper Route Empire. His 2019 joint album with mentor Young Do...
Oops, Kelly Clarkson did it again. The singer put her signature smooth spin on Drake‘s “Hold On, We’re Going Home” in the latest edition of her Kellyoke series. Thursday’s (Jan. 7) take found Kelly and her band tackling the laid back 2103 track from Drizzy’s Nothing Was the Same album and somehow making it feel like even more sublimely sensual. In Clarkson’s hands, the song was transformed into an R&B power jam, with Clarkson revving up her virtual crowd into a frenzy with another stirring reworking of a modern classic.
