Megan Thee Stallion Pays Tribute to Victims of Police Brutality During Virtual Concert

Megan Thee Stallion took a powerful moment during her first virtual concert on Saturday (Aug. 29) to honor Black victims of police brutality. Wearing a sparkly jeweled lingerie-style outfit and backed by a several dancers, the hour-long paid livestream featured a twerk-filled set of Billboard Hot 100 hits such as “WAP,” “Savage” and “Hot Girl Summer.” Early on in the high energy performance, which had the production of an arena show minus the audience, Meg slowed things down to remember the lives of Black men, women and children who’ve been killed or injured at the hands of police. As the stage lights went down, names including Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Tamir Rice, Freddie Gray, George Floyd and Breonna Taylor appeared on a large screen with a sh...

Ever since Baby Boy, Loui, Mick Antony, and Jody Fontaine formed AG Club and released their debut album Halfway Off the Porch earlier this year, the alternative hip-hop group has been quietly drumming up some underground buzz. Now, they’re gearing up for a proper breakthrough with “Memphis (Pt. 2)”, their new song featuring NLE Choppa and A$AP Ferg. “Memphis (Pt. 2)” is from AG Club’s forthcoming sophomore album, FYE, which is due out later this year. Apparently the group decided to reach out to a few of their favorite rappers to see if they were interested in collaborating on new music, but weren’t totally sure if anyone would be down. Needless to say, the group was over the moon when they found out both NLE Choppa and A$AP Ferb were game to jump on this single. “We had to get Choppa on t...

In the hours after his passing, music stars like John Legend, Mariah Carey, The Weekend and G-Eazy took to social media to honor Boseman, who also starred in roles portraying funk legend James Brown in 2014’s Get On Up and baseball icon Jackie Robinson in 2013’s 42. “I’m so shocked and heartbroken about Chadwick,” Legend tweeted. “He was such a bright light, such a gifted performer. He brought grace, elegance and power to everything he did. He always seemed to carry our ancestors with him. And now he joins them far too soon.” Boseman died at his home in the Los Angeles area with his wife and family by his ...

Saweetie Calls on Post Malone, DaBaby & Jack Harlow for Epic ‘Tap In’ Remix

Post Malone, DaBaby and Jack Harlow are tapping in. The three stars joined Saweetie for an infectious remix of her summer hit “Tap In.” The new rendition keeps the thumping beat and the ICY GRL’s spitting verses of the original, with Harlow promising to “tap in, for sure” before DaBaby hops into a fiery verse dreaming of a “ghetto a– bougie b—-, the ones that wear the sundress.” Posty soon joins the party with his own characteristically breezy verse, and the “Whats Poppin” rapper wraps up the monumental remix by proclaiming, “I just crossed over the top 40 I can’t even say what’s poppin’ now cause it got corny.” Saweetie’s original “Tap In” marked the first song in Billboa...

Rick Astley Turns Post Malone’s “Better Now” into an Acoustic Banger: Watch

Rick Astley has gone from RickRolling to rollin’ with his brothers like it’s Jonas. The 54-year-old British musician has shared a cover of Post Malone’s “Better Now”, and dare we say it might be better now. “There are a lot of words in this song. It’s not my song, I don’t really know it properly,” Astley says in the YouTube video capturing the performance. “But I love it, so I’m gonna give it ago. Here we go, let’s see what happens.” What happens is perhaps a more impactful version of the Beerbongs & Bentleys hit. By turning the track into an acoustic banger instead of the trap-y pop of the original, Astley highlights the blues nature in the lyrics. He gives the words a bit of a country twang and growls out the chorus, really bringing the song’s melancholy to the forefront. Honest...

Nasty C Unleashes New Album Zulu Man with Some Power: Stream

South African rapper Nasty C has unleashed his new album Zulu Man with Some Power. Stream it below with Apple Music and Spotify. A former rap prodigy, the man born Nsikayesizwe David Junior Ngcobo is now a 23-year-old hip-hop vet. Zulu Man with Some Power is his third LP, as well as his Def Jam debut, made possible by the success of 2018’s Strings and Bling. Nasty C produced almost all of his songs, and he demonstrated an effortless ability to slip into the pocket of the beat. He would have fit right in on American radio, which is a mixed compliment — after all, why did a (then) 19-year-old from South Africa sound like he’d grown up in Atlanta or Los Angeles? Some music execs tried to meddle, telling him to “sound more African.” This didn’t sit well with Nasty C. “I want the...

Kanye West Sues Ohio Election Head to Get on November Ballot

Rapper Kanye West sued Ohio’s election chief Wednesday in an effort to be placed on the November presidential ballot after the Secretary of State deemed him unqualified as an independent candidate. West’s emergency filing against Republican Secretary of State Frank LaRose comes days after the election’s chief rejected the nearly 15,000 signatures and other paperwork the rapper submitted earlier this month in an attempt to run for president, citing mismatched information on the signature-gathering documents. In the complaint, attorneys for West’s campaign in Ohio allege that it is LaRose’s duty to accept any petition for an independent candidate as long as there is no protest filed against the petition and it doesn’t violate Ohio law. Ohio was one of a number of stat...

Nas’ King’s Disease Reintroduces the Legend to a New Generation: Review

The Lowdown: In 2018, Queensbridge-bred lyricist Nas released his 12th studio album, NASIR. In being a collaborative effort with Kanye West, this LP was met with high expectations. However, whether it was the album’s lack of cohesion, its poor timing, or the chaos surrounding its production and West’s antics, NASIR was deemed underwhelming by both fans and critics alike. After disclosing that he would be working with the Grammy-winning producer Hit-Boy on his upcoming project, some people were skeptical that this approach could help the rapper revert back to form and the high-quality work that had preceded NASIR. On August 21st, Nas and Hit-Boy succeeded in silencing critics and reintroducing the legendary emcee to a new generation of listeners with King’s Disease. By definition, “king’s d...

Tekashi 6ix9ine Announces New Album Tattle Tales

Tekashi 6ix9ine has announced his first new album after his unexpectedly quick release from prison. Tattle Tales will take the stand starting September 4th. Way back in what feels like another lifetime — February of 2019, to be exact — 6ix9ine pled guilty to racketeering, firearm possession, and drug trafficking charges. Those are heavy counts, but he was sentenced to a mere 24 months in prison because of his cooperative attitude, which some have characterized as snitching. An MC from an earlier generation may have feared retribution, but 6ix9ine rejected witness protection and allegedly signed a $10 million record deal from prison. 6ix9ine announced the new album in an Instagram post shortly after landing in Chicago. In the video, the New York rapper is seen walking down the street with a...
