Today, Flo Milli drops “Conceited” ahead of her debut album, You Still Here, Ho ? At this point, Flo Milli is well on her way to being an established artist. After going TikTok viral with “Beef FloMix” back in 2019, the Alabama rapper proved she wasn’t a one-hit wonder with the follow-up “In the Party.” Her 2020 debut, Ho, why is you here ?, saw Flo Milli sharpening her measured, yet conversational flow and she stepped outside of the box with the SWV flip “Weak.” 20 years old at the time, it felt like Flo Milli was both confident in herself as an artist and had plenty of room to grow. Of course, the project was positioned as a mixtape, so now Flo Milli is readying h...

Nova Twins Fight the Good Fight with the Genre-Bending Supernova: Review

Sometimes, the best art is born out of adversity, struggle and strife. Look at some of the greatest creative movements in history, for example. The protest songs of the ‘60s, the Harlem Renaissance — they come from times when pain, oppression and destruction were to no longer be tolerated by the masses. For UK’s Nova Twins, that adversity, struggle and strife was large scale — an intersectional pile on of racism, sexism, environmental decline, and the loss of rights. Their sophomore album, Supernova, tackles some of these issues from the opposite perspective, focusing on the reclamation of what’s been taken rather than the agonizing over what’s been lost. Instead of forlorn lyrics directly reflecting our many tragedies, the duo, Amy Love and Georgia South to be specific, create agency in t...

Flying Lotus met Devin Tracy during a studio session, but their collaborative singles suggest they forged an easy rapport. Tracy offers soulful vocal runs in “The Room,” mourning a fractured relationship over swirling guitar and acrobatic bass. “Why do I fall in love so easily?/ You made me soft, I’m down to my knees,” he sighs. These relationship troubles flow into “The Room”‘s B-side. “You Don’t Know” really means “You don’t know how it feels,” as Tracy insists that his lover is oblivious to his pain. A compressed beat skitters in the track while soaring horns and light keys make his sadness sound beautiful. Advertisement Related Video “Th...
