OK Go, the band best known for their viral 2006 treadmill music video, have been sued by Post Foods over the right to continue using the band’s name for a newly launched line of instant cereal cups named OK Go! According to Post’s complaint filed in Minnesota federal court on January 13th (via Billboard), the band had been threatening to sue for months and the company would be “unfairly forced to continue investing in its new OK GO! brand while under the constant threat of unfounded future litigation by defendants.” Post is seeking a declaratory judgment ruling that the company hasn’t done anything wrong, citing its trademark application for OK Go! that was approved in 2022. According to Post, the United States Patent and Trademark Office did not find the cereal line’s name ...

파란노을 (Parannoul), the elusive, anonymous Korean artist who’s become a cult favorite with extremely online indie rock fans, is returning this month with a new full-length album. After the Magic is out January 28th with physicals distributed by Topshelf Records. In typical Parannoul fashion, there’s not much we know about this new record right now. All the musician has said about the project is: “This album is not what you expected, but what I always wanted.” Will it be their usual breed of fuzzy, mathy, shoegaze-infused emo? We have no idea! Exciting! Sign up over at Topshelf’s website to be notified whenever physical LPs of After the Magic by Parannoul are available to pre-order. See the artwork for the album below. Happy hump day! Wednesday have announced that they will return this spring with their third album Rat Saw God, out April 7th via their new label home Dead Oceans. To celebrate the news, the Asheville indie rock band have shared the new single “Chosen to Deserve” today, as well as a bunch of tour dates for 2023. Rat Saw God documents bandleader Karly Hartzman’s coming-of-age in North Carolina, using fuzzed-out guitars and sticky hooks as a vehicle for her intimate, evocative storytelling. The 10-track LP — which includes the previously-released epic “Bull Believer” — is available to pre-order now. “Chosen to Deserve” is a prime example of Wednesday’s specific sound, infusing their ’90s-inspired lo-fi rock with a subtle, homey country twang. “‘Chosen to Deserve’ is a writing exercise I gave ...

MGMT have taken full advantage of indie sleaze nostalgia by teasing a “fancy new album” alongside their newly announced appearance at Just Like Heaven 2023. “We will be returning to the stage for the first time in nearly four years on May 13th at Just Like Heaven Festival in Pasadena, and we’ll be doing a unique MGMT performance, featuring our entire first album, Oracular Spectacular,” the group said in a statement posted to social media. “We’ve stocked up on rust remover and are constructing a state of the art elf workshop so as to attempt to provide the most experimental live show since we were wee lads playing hockey in the middle of songs etc.” The duo of Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser continued, “Furthermore, keep checking back in with us because we’ve been making some fu...
The National have dropped a teaser and a whole lit class’ worth of clues for their ninth studio album and follow-up to 2019’s I Am Easy to Find. Over on the band’s Instagram page, they shared a link to AmericanMary.com/LP9, where users are greeted with a prompt for a password. Enter the words EVIL FOREBODINGS, and you’ll be greeted with an altered version of the first pages of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. Instead of a letter to Mrs. Saville, this missive is addressed to Mrs. Bridgers, while the name Margaret has been replaced with Taylor, and “our good Uncle Thomas” has given way to “our good Uncle Sufjan.” These are likely references to Phoebe Bridgers, Taylor Swift, and Sufjan Stevens, which lends credence to an alleged leaked tracklist that Amazon accidentally publis...
Surprise! Less than a year after their latest album A Bit of Previous, Belle and Sebastian return today with another new full-length called Late Developers. Listen to it in full below via Bandcamp. Clocking in at 11 songs, Late Developers was recorded during the same sessions as A Bit of Previous. But as punk rocker and B&S superfan Jeff Rosenstock writes in the album’s liner notes, Late Developers “doesn’t feel like a collection of lesser-than songs that weren’t good enough to go on the ‘real’ record,” instead evoking the freedom and proficiency of skilled painters on “a jumbo-sized canvas.” Lead single “I Don’t Know What You See In Me” puts that metaphor into effect, swapping out Belle and Sebastian’s typical indie-pop jangle for a heavy dose of ’80s synth-po...
Yo La Tengo are set to drop their 16th(!) studio album This Stupid World next month, and ahead of release day, the indie veterans have shared a new single from the record called “Aselestine.” Listen to the track below. With vocals from Georgia Hubley, “Aselestine” is a more chill look at This Stupid World than rollicking first single “Fallout.” Bass pogos over slow-strummed acoustic guitar in the track, as Hubley’s classic murmur unfurls across four minutes. The song comes with a minimalist music video by Sabrina Nichols, where a singular light grows atop a staticky black background. Watch the calming visualizer below. This Stupid World is out February 10th via Matador, and pre-orders are ongoing. Titled after the frustrating reality of our ever-chaotic society and hearkenin...
