She & Him Announce 2022 “Melt Away Tour: A Tribute to Brian Wilson”
Christmas has come early this year, as She & Him have announced their first tour of non-holiday material since 2013. This June, Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward will embark on the “Melt Away Tour: A Tribute to Brian Wilson.” This ode to the genius behind The Beach Boys is named for Wilson’s solo classic, “Melt Away,” but will also include selections from the duo’s discography. Given the time of year, fans are probably more likely to hear cuts from Volume One, Volume Two, and Volume Three than A Very She & Him Christmas or their most recent album, 2016’s Christmas Party. Deschanel and Ward will kick things off in Denver, Colorado on June 13th. Interpol and Spoon Announce Co-Headlining Tour
Indie rock veterans Interpol and Spoon are going on tour together this summer. The “Lights, Camera, Factions Tour” begins on August 25th in Asbury Park, New Jersey and wraps up with two shows at Portland’s Pioneer Square on September 17th and 18th. The Goon Sax are set to open every show, save for a stop in Toronto, where Metric will play instead. The three week run hits some pretty random places — Providence, Rhode Island and two dates in Ohio stick out — which is probably because both Interpol and Spoon have more extensive headlining tours of their own kicking off in April. Beach Bunny Announce New Album Emotional Creature, Share “Fire Escape”: Stream
Beach Bunny have announced their sophomore album, Emotional Creature, out July 22nd on Mom+Pop Music. As a preview, the Lili Trifilio-fronted quartet have shared the new single “Fire Escape.” Emotional Creature was primarily written by Trifilio after the band came off a whirlwind tour behind their excellent debut record, Honeymoon. Phoebe Bridgers Pens Essay for Bon Iver’s Self-Titled 10th Anniversary Reissue
Bon Iver have reissued their 2011 sophomore album Bon Iver for its tenth anniversary, complete with a special essay written by Phoebe Bridgers. Stream the LP below on Apple Music and Spotify. The new edition of the studio set features all 10 songs on the original tracklist along with live versions of “Hinnom, TX,” “Wash.,” “Beth/Rest,” and bonus tracks “I Can’t Make You Love Me” and “Babys” recorded at AIR Studios. Camp Cope Share New Album Running with the Hurricane: Stream
Camp Cope return today with their first new album in four years. Running with the Hurricane, the Melbourne indie rock trio’s third LP, is out now via Run for Cover. Running with the Hurricane was recorded at Sing Sing Recording Studios with engineer Anna Laverty, who co-produced the album with frontperson Georgia Maq. Courtney Barnett contributed additional instrumentation to the songs “Caroline” and “Sing Your Heart Out,” while Cable Ties drummer Shauna Boyle played on “One Wink at a Time.” The album’s 10 songs also include the singles “Blue” and the title track. The singer-songwriter otherwise known as Nika Roza Danilova will release Arkhon on May 20th via Sacred Bones, and as a preview, she’s shared the single “Lost.” Zola Jesus has long been a solo project for Danilova, but on Arkhon, the musician set aside her pride and tried out collaboration. “At some point, I had to work with other people,” she explained. “I needed new blood. Pavement’s Bob Nastanovich Launches Fundraiser for Daniel Johnston’s Cat
Daniel Johnston left behind a massive cult following when he died in 2019, but he also left behind a pet cat who’s been living alone ever since. Now, Pavement drummer Bob Nastanovich is helping out by launching a GoFundMe campaign for the feline, who needs oral surgery. Nastanovich is seeking $2,000 for Spunky, who was recently discovered in pretty poor condition. Laura Anderson, Johnston’s former tour manager, explained the cat’s situation in a note posted to the fundraiser. “Daniel’s cat Spunky has lived all alone in his house since he died and was recently taken to a rescue organization,” Anderson wrote. “She has had a tumor in her mouth and a cancer scare (fortunately her biopsy was negative).
