Alex G has released his new track “End Song” via Milan Records/Sony Music Entertainment. The vocal track scores the end credits for the upcoming indie thriller We’re All Going to the World’s Fair, which the singer-songwriter also soundtracked. “I choose to stay/ There is no other way/ I read the sign/ I do not ask it why/ You know what they do to little dogs like you,” he repeatedly warns over spare guitar. After making its world premiere more than a year ago at the 2021 Sundance Film Festival, We’re All Going to the World’s Fair is set to premiere April 22nd in theaters and on HBO Max. Phoebe Bridgers and Sloppy Jane Cover My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade”: Watch

Nothing beats the delirium of the late-night end of a South by Southwest showcase — especially when the bands on the bill start pulling out their best emo covers. Phoebe Bridgers and Sloppy Jane did just that Wednesday night (March 16th), teaming up for a group singalong of My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade.” Bridgers’ label Saddest Factory Records hosted its own showcase at the Austin festival, dubbed the Saddest Factory Records Corporate Retreat. Charlie Hickey, Sloppy Jane, Claud, and MUNA performed at the event, while Bridgers acted as MC (while also hopping onstage with the artists throughout the night). For the big finale, the acts engaged in a “TEAM BUILDING: Karaoke” session. Beyond the always-welcome emo nostalgia, this particular Black Parade magic also gifted fa...

Arcade Fire Announce New Album WE, Share “The Lightning I, II”: Stream

Arcade Fire have announced their new album. Entitled WE, the band’s sixth full-length is due out on May 6th via Columbia Records. As a preview, they’ve shared the first single, “The Lightning I, II.” Arcade Fire set out to record an album in February 2020, but when the pandemic began, Win Butler and Régine Chassagne decided to hunker down and write more songs instead of sticking with what they already had. “It was the longest we’ve ever spent writing, uninterrupted, probably ever,” Butler said in a statement. The finished product, WE, is at once a double album and a practice in restraint. Seven songs unravel in 40 minutes, split between two sides: Side “I” deals in isolation, while Side “WE” revels in human connection. The project was produced by Radiohead’s go-to boardman, Nigel Godr...

Japanese Breakfast and Alton Brown on Cooking, Music, and Cooking While Listening to Music

What do celebrity chef and TV host Alton Brown and Grammy-nominated indie rock star Michelle Zauner (AKA Japanese Breakfast) have in common? Quite a few things, believe it or not; both have a passionate love of food, with Alton Brown hosting multiple Food Network shows and Zauner exploring the relationship between food, love, and grief in her memoir, Crying in H Mart.  Not only that, they’re both musicians; Zauner released her excellent third studio album Jubilee last year, whereas Brown is currently trekking across the country with his “ABL: Beyond The Eats” tour, which features him fronting a live band every night in addition to food science experiments, live cooking, and more. Together, they’re both ambassadors and sonic enthusiasts for Fender’s new futuristic and visually stunning...

MUNA Announce New Album and Tour, Share “Anything But Me”: Stream

Like “Silk Chiffon” before it, MUNA sees Katie Gavin, Naomi McPherson, and Josette Maskin move beyond angst and heartbreak for lyrics as light as the music that soundtracks them. As the band’s first full-length since being dropped from RCA and signing to Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records, MUNA was a concerted effort by the trio to remind themselves of their strength. “What ultimately keeps us together,” Maskin said, “is knowing...

King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Team with Tropical Fuck Storm for New EP: Stream

Australian rock bands King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Tropical Fuck Storm have shared a collaborative EP titled Satanic Slumber Party. Stream it below. The three-track project was recorded while King Gizzard were working on their 2019 album Fishing for Fishies with Tropical Fuck Storm’s Gareth Liddiard. Per the latter group’s Fiona Kitschin, the EP was born out of the same jam session that resulted in King Gizzard’s latest single, “The Dripping Tap.” “After a long day recording and a few too many drinks, the Gizz guys and us all wore hats and recorded a very long jam, which we called ‘Hat Jam,” Kitschin recalled in a press statement. “Gizz took ideas from the jam and made up a new song called the ‘Dripping Tap’ and Tropical Fuck Storm took the ‘Hat Jam’ recording and turned it into ...

Charlie Hickey Announces Debut Album Nervous at Night, Shares Title Track: Stream

At just 21, Hickey knows he doesn’t quite have everything in life figured out yet. On Nervous at Night, he details the limbo stage between blissful adolescence and the looming fears of full-blown adulthood. With Bridgers assisting on the record alongside fellow musicians Marshall Vore, Harrison Whitford, Christian Lee Hutson, and Mason Stoops, Nervous at Night is a documentation of personal growth that’s wise beyond Hickey’s years. In line with the album’s theme...
