How did xpxp come about? Ryo Ito: A year ago or so I started thinking that people like me — people working amongst the creatives in the music industry — need to make music themselves. We make tracks and do sound production for artists, but there are other things we also want to do. I think it’s gotten easier to do that, and to show off what we come up with. Although there are still few opportunities for creators to share their creations, I don’t think that should hold us back. xpxp is something born from my desire to help open that door for other creators in Japan. Where did the idea of “girl crush” come from? her0ism: The theme “girl crush” was fueled by that feeling of a woman liking another woman beyond mere adoration. When you’re trying to make a track with a strong c...
BMG has signed up The Rolling Stones to represent the band globally in pursuing collections of master recording performance rights royalties when their songs are played on radio and television, also known as neighboring rights. While in the U.S., master recording performance royalties are only paid when music is played on digital and satellite radio — and not when tracks play on terrestrial radio or TV — in most other countries those rights receive royalty payments for that kind of play in addition to digital. This signing gives a big boost to BMG’s neighboring rights service, launched only six months ago. “If you are in the business of selling services to artists and songwriters, these are the kinds of client you dream of attracting,” BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch said in ...
Midnight Oil was slated to debut the Makarrata Live concept at the Splendour In The Grass festival in July 2020, but the event was postponed due to the health crisis. The Oils, as they’re affectionately known Down Under, will tour “in their own right” later in 2021 by which time large indoor shows can hopefully be staged safely and without compromise throughout Australia and New Zealand at least, reads a statement from Michael Gudinski’s Frontier Touring, producer of the tour. “We’re relieved and excited at the thought of finally playing music to live audiences again,” said frontman Peter Garrett. “Lots of the songs which have struck the deepest chords with our audiences over the years, like ‘Beds Are Burning,’ ‘Jimmy Sharman’s Boxers,’ ‘The Dead Heart’ ...

Chart rankings are based on a weighted formula incorporating official-only streams on both subscription and ad-supported tiers of audio and video music services, as well as download sales, the latter of which reflect purchases from full-service digital music retailers from around the world, with sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites excluded from the charts’ calculations. ‘Dakiti’ Ties for Most Weeks Atop Global 200 Bad Bunny and Jhay Cortez’s “Dakiti” rebounds from No. 2 to No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 with 121.4 million streams, up 13%, and 3,000 downloads sold, down 8%, globally in the week ending Dec. 3. With three more weeks until Christmas, there’s plenty of time for Carey to snag the title. There’s Christmas cheer up and down the chart, as Wham’s “Last Christmas” (RCA) flies 20-3, The Pogues and Kirsty MacColl’s “Fairytale of New York” (Warner Bros) zooms 26-8, and 18 more holiday hits impact the Top 40, the Official Charts Company reports. The highest new entry on the chart this week belongs to Liam Gallagher, with his charity fundraising singer “All You’re Dreaming Of” (Warner Records) opening at No. 35. It’s the former Oasis frontman’s fourth solo Top 40 single. Proceeds of the single will benefit Action For Children, a charity that protects and supports vulnerable children and young people across the U.K. Over on the Official U.K. Albums Chart, Barlow’s...
Meanwhile, Miley Cyrus bags her sixth Top 10 title as Plastic Hearts enters at No. 3 on the ARIA chart. It’s Cyrus’ first studio album since Younger Now, which peaked at No. 2 in October 2017, though the U.S. pop singer did drop an EP last year, She Is Coming, which reached No. 10 on the survey. Closing out the Top 5 are BTS’ BE (down 2-4) and Taylor Swift’s former leader folklore (up 6-5), respectively, while Andrea Bocelli’s Believe climbs into the Top 10 for the first time. In its third week on the chart, Believe lifts 24-10, and becomes the Italian tenor’s eighth Top Ten title in the land Down Under. Over on the ARIA Singles Chart, 24kGoldn’s “Mood” featuring Iann Dior is the champion for the eighth week. The San Francisco rapper’s first leader in Australia has now logged the seco...
It could be a very special Christmas indeed for Mariah Carey, whose “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is on pace to hit No. 1 in the U.K. for the very first time. Carey’s festive classic is in pole position after the weekend, with a lead of 1,300 combined sales over Wham’s “Last Christmas,” another holiday standard which has never reached the top of the chart tree. Carey’s “Christmas” was released in 1994 and has a U.K. peak position of No. 2. You Deserve to Make Money Even When you are looking for Dates Online. So we reimagined what a dating should be. “For the sake of all artists, songwriters and the wider industry, it is crucial that this new format is allowed to grow and thrive,” the artists and managers say in their letter. “Charging artists up to four times the live rate strangles rather than nurtures this innovation.” Signing onto the letter were managers for such artists as Dua Lipa, Biffy Clyro, Liam Gallagher, Bicep, Fontaines D.C., Gorillaz, Yungblud, and Arlo Parks, as well as a group of songwriters. In a statement sent to Billboard, PRS for Music did not detail the proposed scheme for its Online Live Concert license, which it said was “still evolving.” The organization says the new scheme will allow the necessary rights to be licensed and says it welcomes “the many initiatives to move live concerts online.” The manager and ar...

Fans were overjoyed that the clip features the rapper, who was previously recovering from shoulder surgery. Topping the chart dated Dec. 5, “Life Goes On” officially becomes the first single to be sung primarily in Korean to hit No. 1 in the Hot 100’s 62-year history. It follows BTS’ first career chart-toppers: “Dynamite,” which was also their first English-language single, as well as their guest appearance on the remix of Jason Derulo and Jawsh 685’s “Savage Love (Laxed — Siren Beat),” which hit No. 1 in August and October, respectively. The band’s latest Korean-language album, Be, also debuted atop the Billboard 200 upon its Nov. 20 release, giving the K-pop group their third consecutive No. 1 album following 2018’s Love Y...
