‘Fantastic’ – Townsend says £200k-per-week Everton player has worked really hard in training

Andros Townsend has suggested that Everton attacking midfielder James Rodriguez has been working really hard in training.  Rodriguez, who joined last summer from Real Madrid, is facing an uncertain future at Goodison Park. He is yet to feature under Rafael Benitez and was linked with a move away from the club during the summer. In his first season at the Merseyside club, Rodriguez only showed flashes of brilliance but failed to maintain consistency. Townsend, however, feels that Rodriguez is fully focussed and he is confident that Benitez will integrate him when he feels the moment is right. He has hailed him as a fantastic player, and suggested that he has worked really hard in training during the international break. “He’s a fantastic player,” said Townsend to the Daily Mail. “Every...

£25m-rated man has uncertain Everton future, club tried to sell 30 y/o after manager exit [opinion]

James Rodriguez was seen as quite a coup when he first joined Everton, but the 30-year-old now has an uncertain future at Goodison Park after an eventful summer – James followed Carlo Ancelotti to Everton last season but saw his ex-Real Madrid manager return to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer. The Colombian international told ESPN in April that Ancelotti was the only reason he joined the Toffees, so things were up in the air following his departure in June. Everton even tried to sell James before the summer transfer window shut, but the player blocked a move to Istanbul Basaksehir – the Super Lig club sit second from bottom in the table without a point from their first three games this season. James may have been open to a move away from Everton if it was a step up than step down, but he...

We recently covered a report that Everton are considering making a move for Luis Diaz from Porto in a deal that would see Rodriguez moving the other way on loan. However, talks of such a potential deal appear to have stalled, with Fabrizio Romano claiming that the Toffees are yet to reach an agreement for the 24-year-old winger. €20m Everton star offered to top European clubs, possible move to AC Milan?

Atletico Madrid and AC Milan have been offered the opportunity to sign Everton playmaker James Rodriguez through his agent, Spanish journalist Pipe Sierra claims. Rodriguez joined the Toffees in a surprise move from Real Madrid last summer after getting the chance to reunite with manager Carlo Ancelotti. He had an injury-plagued campaign for the club but still impressed with six goals and nine assists from 26 appearances across all competitions. Earlier this month, Ancelotti left the Toffees to secure a return to Real Madrid, and this has led to serious doubts over Rodriguez’s future at the club. It is now reported that Atletico, Milan and Napoli have been offered his services by his agent. A return to Madrid with Ancelotti is deemed difficult. Rodriguez reportedly arrived on a free transf...

James Rodriguez on his Everton future, Carlo Ancelotti and Real Madrid

James Rodriguez has said that he could stay for another season with Everton despite the recent departure of manager Carlo Ancelotti. Ancelotti played a pivotal role in signing him for the Toffees last summer, but the Italian is no longer at the helm, having returned to Real Madrid. Rodriguez had previously worked with Ancelotti at Madrid and Bayern Munich, but he has ruled out the prospect of another reunion. The Colombia international is looking forward to next season with the Toffees, and admitted his cycle with Real Madrid is now closed. He told Habla Deportes (via MSN): “I don’t know. I think not…. If I stay another year [at Everton] that’s fine.” “I don’t think Ancelotti is going to take me. The cycle for me with Real Madrid is closed.” Sportslens view: Rodriguez had an injury-pl...

Everton blow late lead against Crystal Palace

Everton’s hopes of a top-four finish in the Premier League were dented by Michy Batshuayi’s 86th minute equaliser to salvage a 1-1 draw for Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on Monday. The Toffees were made to rue a string of missed chances either side of James Rodriguez’s opener as they only narrowly closed the gap on fourth-placed Chelsea to four points. Rodriguez’s return from injury for the first time since Everton ended a two-decade wait to beat Liverpool away in the Merseyside derby in February sparked a far more enterprising performance from Carlo Ancelotti’s men. Vicente Guaita was forced into fine saves from Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison in a dominant first-half display from the home side. Rodriguez finally broke the deadlock 11 minutes into the second-half when he fired hom...

Alex Iwobi wants to win trophies with Everton

Super Eagles striker Alex Iwobi says his aim is to continue developing at Everton and hopefully help the club win some trophies. Iwobi has been enjoying good run of game under Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti after overcoming the muscle injury that sidelined him earlier in the season. The former Arsenal midfielder’s versatility has been blessing to the Toffees as he has played in three different positions, including the right wing back. Iwobi told Everton’s website that he’s be involved in recent matches, but want to keep improving with the team. “I want to win trophies with Everton and be heavily involved in that achievement,” says Iwobi. “We are very ambitious and trying to make this a special season and it is exciting when you add talent to the team.” Iwobi is one of the players tipped to l...

Five summer signings who have impressed heavily

This has been a crazy start to the new season so far, with competition at the top very intense compared to the last season where Liverpool won the title at a canter. Only six points separate the top 10 teams after eight matches, with teams like Southampton, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City looking to provide a strong challenge to Liverpool and Manchester City. Once again, clubs in the Premier League spent a lot of money in the summer, and we take a look at some of the players who have impressed (not in the order of ranking) so far. Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa): The exciting striker joined Villa this summer from Brentford for a reported fee of £28m, and he is already proving to be a smart signing. With six goals and an assist in the Premier League, Watkins has formed a tele...

Carlo Ancelotti: Alex Iwobi’s quality can make Everton better

Everton manager Carlo Ancelotti says Alex Iwobi’s pace, hardwork and quality can help in making the Toffees a better team in certain situations. Ancelotti stated this ahead of Everton’s Premier League tie against Southampton this weekend with the duo of James Rodriguez and Richarlison out. The potential absence of both James and Richarlison will present starting opportunities for members of Ancelotti’s squad short on top-flight action this term. And among those vying for a first Premier League start this term is Iwobi, who dazzled after replacing Richarlison in the opening half of Everton’s victory over Brighton & Hove Albion prior to this month’s international break. “We have to put in other players who have the desire to play,” said Ancelotti. “We are working this week on this and I ...
